Now, Nicolas and I wanted to do this for a long time because we are fed up with people f*cking up our members database or simply ignoring the basic registering rules. We aren't asking for the world here. If it's too much for some people (75 on 2600 is an OK ratio to me, and most of them have already sent the full info since we sent that warning), well, we do not force them to register.
And we will not start again a debate on this... we have already discussed this a long time ago, and our decision to this regard is final.

Personnally, I don't mind, as my account IS accurate and everyone know almost everything about me now, anyway.
The only trouble I can see, unless it has been fixed now, for people seeking privacy, is the fact that the full name and not the nickname is sent by email to the person who created the thread...
Sebsy I never received any such warning and refute the accusation that I did. Hopefully by now you know fine well I would have happily obliged to any terms and conditions you set and require us to adhere to. Apologies if my anonymity is a pain in the arse... I will e-mail you my 'real life' details (obviously there is no way I would make these up... mmm).
By the way, Hunstmate, I still haven't recieved your mouth watering package.

Booster - package despatched last Friday 'Special International Delivery'. I requested the most 'guaranteed to get there' method and hopefully that's what I've got. You will need to sign it when it arrives... no doubt you will spot it coming through the door. Your franked mail package to me took about a week and a half but Special Delivery is meant to be the quickest... that's why I mentioned Wednesday... it was a Huntsmate guesstimate. Maybe Special Delivery, Franked and any mail using the traditional postal system gets banged in the same bus and flown at the same rate. If you don't get it this week don't panic, it'll turn up next week just in time for Christmas dinner.
If anything as happened to it I will be very upset... you wouldn't want to miss out Buster!!!!!!!!!

I sent yours through standard delivery cos I could do it for work. In the other case, I should have gone to the post office and queued for about an hour...
But you got it and that's the most important.
Also, I wanted to thank you for something, Huntsydearmate. Because of your enthusiasm over me songs, I found a new inspiration and we'va had 2 new songs in the last 2 weeks ! And thanks to the other orderites that said nice things that game me back some faith...

I can see how it's relevant to YOU, the webmasters to now my full name, my email address and things like that to prevent people from delibarately abusing the board... I didn't know that when I changed it, it would be changed everywhere in the database (yes that sounds dumb, but that's how I was thinking, since I thought the initial facts when I registered would be saved somewhere.. ah I don't know)
But I didn't want my last name so everyone could see it. I know that there are different opinions on this and questions.. "what's your reason for wanting to be anonymous" etc.

I didn't know that! And yes, it doesn't make any sense! Just like it doesn't make sense that, when you delete one of your own messages, your FULL NAME will appear and not your nickname if you have a nickname chosen.

Like I told you by e-mail, and just so that everyone here knows, I never accused you of receiving this e-mail and not oblige by it -- as a matter of fact I clearly stated that YOU and MARIA were the only two persons who did not comply with the registering rules that WERE NOT SENT AN E-MAIL simply because I know you both fairly well! Well, websitewise at least... ;)
Oh, there's a third one I forgot who did not receive one either: Hank Wiseass(C).... ;)

Well, I understand that there are grey areas here, but basically, the SOLE and ONLY purpose of having a Fan Club profile is to let everyone in the world know about who you are, what are your tastes, etc...
We understand that several people would like to stay anonymous while keeping this profile, which gives them a personal touch on the website. I understand your concern.
On the other side, we are very cautious to avoid that the website and the Fan Club especially becomes a "teenie-weenie" place with people using 10 different names, some of them not always of good taste, etc. When people are under their true identity, they tend to think twice before speaking or acting. When they get anonymous, they tend to do or say things they wouldn't do otherwise. And that is not always good for a website who wants to keep a certain level of respectability.
We thought that in the everyday life, wherever you go, you always have to use your real identity. So why not here? And if you don't want that, you can always take the decision of not having a public profile. It is YOUR option.
That's one aspect of our decision.
The other aspect is much more practical. Truncated names tends to play with our database. For instance, Huntsman, by not putting his last name, made impossible for us to trace his profile in our Members Manager the way it was programmed. We have to use other tools to access the profile in cases like this, and it makes it painful for us. Another example: Hooky Monster decided to replace his first and last name with only DOTS (.,.). Once again, it had the same effect on the database.
The other reason: website competitions. Eventually, we'd like everything to be automatized (is that a word?) -- a bit like we just did for our Twisted Tenderness Deluxe competition. The competition interface links with the members profiles, and will eventually send us automatically the name of the winners with their postal addresses. We'll pass them to the sponsor of the competition, and everything will be done very quickly, in a very efficient way -- unlike previous competitions which were being tedious for us to manage.
I'd like to underscore the fact that in our original website plans, the members of the site play an important role in this website, as they will eventually be linked automatically with the REVIEWS section of the Tours & Concerts section and of the discography, and it is already linked to the POLL section. From now on, we have the ability to know EXACTLY what our members think on certain questions, and the results will be very very accurate since the members will only be allowed to vote ONCE.
The members database, since it plays such an important role, has to be reliable and not truncated.
I hope everything is a bit clearer now, even though I wish I could have explained this in french because I have this gut feeling that I did not explain it as well as I wish I would have (Geoffroy K probably knows the feeling!).

One more thing I want to add to this "debate" :
Iniatially, a lot of people had concerts about revealing their full names when registering on the site, and we always told them that NO, we wouldn't make a bad use of these informations, and that we would NEVER, NEVER, NEVER sell or give anyone the e-mail addresses of our members, and after one year online, I think that we have proven so far that we were being very honest and serious about this and we did not change our mind about this.
Nicolas and I have been on the Internet and BBSes for about 13 years -- we have been SysOps before being webmasters, and before that, we were USERS as well, and we know very well the good aspects and the bad aspects of being a user and a manager of these types of things. Don't worry, we know what we're doing... at least, I think!
