That's a question that should be addressed to Nicolas Leblanc, since he programmed these features.
From what I can see, when a user has a Fan Club profile, it will use his profile nickname, or if there's no nickname, the full name, but when he doesn't have a Fan Club profile, it will use it's full name, without making a prior check for a nickname.
Some sort of a paradox, again, and certainly an aspect to improve.
