Weekly Release Review - Week 01 - Here To Stay (UK Singles)

Firstly, I'm sure many of us (such as myself) aren't obsessive-compulsive trainspotters who feel obligated to buy every single version of every single single, so you may find it hard to get a lot of responses comparing sundry releases that only differ in one or two disposable remixes.

That said,

1. I'd chose whichever one has Player in the League on it, because I'd rather hear a quality b-side than another regurgitated remix.
2. the ones with the least tracks on it, since I'm sure they all sound pretty much alike, being just the original song and then boring remixes

4. Here to Stay is better than anything off Get Ready, so it has that going for it, and Player in the League is a great b-side so there's that too. I think I've said other things about both tracks in the song review forum.
5. maybe the end of this year...maybe next year. who knows? sometimes i think there'll be a better chance of a Joy Division reunion than a new New Order album.

1 the one with Player in the League on it. I must have missed this UK release because I actually ended up with an Australian issue with 5 versions of Here to Stay and the sixth track being Player in the League. I had actually first of all bought the DVD with the four 24 Hour Party People clips on it, and then realised I was missing out on a new track that wasn't on Get Ready. 2 not too keen on the Glitz mix 3 9 out of 10 4 should have been part of the album 5 late 2004 they're going to surprise us

Looks like the vinyl with the Crystal mix is the best one, though I own CD2 of those singles, the only copy in the store I bought it from. That one is probably the worst of the lot, since I also like Player In The League, and I'm not one to collect every single remix of every single song. Also don't play the Scumfrog dub mix that often. I did find a US promo 12", but the contents are the same as that of CD2. Altogether, the rating of the single I own is a 7, but that's based on the total package as well. As for a new album, I'm not holding my breath for anything this year that's for sure, so I'll go with Summer 2005.

As long as it doesn't contain the Scumfrog dub. How I hate the remix. But, the original version kicks arse

1. CD1 is good as you get both tracks. I also really like the Extended Instrumental of HTS, it's got various extras in it that the normal mix doesn't. I'd vote for the Aussie CD then as it's got the lot on it. (You forgot the DVD too).
2. Don't really dislike any of them - the vinyl won't get played hardly ever though, since I have all the versions on CD.
3. CD1 and NXDJ11 are both worth an 8 I reckon.
4. Here To Stay was a decent track, all the better for being more New Order product in an 18 month period where we were spoilt rotten (and it's starting to seem a long time ago). I went to see 24HPP at the cinema and the previous showing was finishing while we were waiting outside and this seeped out into the foyer - nice moment. It would be interesting to see if this gets wheeled out live. Belting chorus too.

The remixes on these singles are all fairly non-essential I would say. The Extended Instr. has something going for it though, a few extra sounds and textures. It's funy how many more footie shows, etc used this during 2002 than the re-released WIM or the trully terrible "Such A Good Thing" (see weekly/weakly song reviews).

5. When it happens. Surely by now no-one on here actually expects a New Order record until it's clutched in their sweaty mitts do they? (Honourable mention must go to Strange Fruit for actually delivering on time, even down to the sleeve!).

i guess i'm weird, i still can't get into "Here to Stay", all that much, while the Felix Da Housecat Glitz mix to me has a cool retro mood to it, the best of the recent remixes, really outdoes the original.

"Player in the League" might have been my favorite Get ready track... if it was actually on the album. Why did Barney hide most of his better lyrics on B-sides this time? is he embarressed? I have the Australian CD single... and actually listen to it.

as for the next record.... unless the guys are hurting for some cash, don't expect it this year... do you think that they are going to decide what to finally release quickly with three producers??? they are going to waffle all over the place and never decide on anything!

i dunno...i LOVE the song! my fave version is remark's remix - it's incredible!

I love Here To Stay... my only complaint is that parts of the radio version are missing from the extended version, I love the chorus. But the extended version only has the chorus twice, whilst the radio version repeats the chorus after the 'we're here to stay' bit!! Hope that makes sense...
