Ah, fuck - even if Barney just came on and shook his considerable booty I'd be happy. Ever been to The Ritz, Shug? It's very, er, "intimate"....
Shugster,
If it does happen i will buy you a drink. Which is no mean feat considering the prices in the ritz...

Shite - I'd forgotten about that: the man is right, it's fookin' extortionate in there (seem to remember paying £2.90 for a pint of Carling at a '96 Cocteaus gig there....)

This is why we usually have our NOOL drink-ups in That There London.
Separates the wheat from the chaff! ;) ![]()
Dunno why I thought Turnmills was in Brighton!?!
Something to do with that GAY thread the other day![]()
£2.90 a pint in 96? Yowser! Frads I've never been to the Ritz, but if they are charging that much I am taking a few *ahem* memento's home with me:D Liam I will only be too glad to take a beer off you, and if yer like every other student you'll be wanting 5 back in return;) You's both have me number - see you's there:D
£2.90?!?!?!? It were never that bad! £2.40 for a pint and about £3 for one of those alcopops nonsense.
I think i deserve extra credit for making an appearance at that particular time of year ![]()

God is beer cheap in England...
It's not that expensive for a pint damn it, usually you pay 3-4$ for a domestic beer in any club.. (yeah, the small size), a pint might be 8-10$ easily...
Though pint is not really used here, we go straight to the pitcher ![]()

That's because your beer is nonsense :bag:
Just to get this thread back to the original topic, I don't really think New Order will play: after all, Johnny Giles has said it won't happen, and I don't see Al Jarvis cancelling his holiday yet, so.......Unless we get an official announcement or Jon Scott makes an appearance and says it's happening (which is basically the same thing in my eyes) it's probably a NO show. You live in hope that something "spontaneous" might happen, though.....
BTW: maybe it wasn't £2.90 a pint, but it certainly FELT like it!!!!
my guess is that the only thing that may happen would be that someone joins ACR on stage (if we're lucky)
Well that conceiavbly could happen. When ACR played Band on the Wall, they covered Heart and Soul soul so maybe one of them could get up and play with that...

Did they not? I wouldnt have a clue becuase i was only thirteen.
I was actually talking about the last time i was in there, on my 18th birthday three years ago...

Wasn't it about 1996 when it all kicked off? By "alcopops", I think we're probably only talking about bottles of "Hooch" and "Two Dogs", mind....
Originally posted by Uncle Liam Just been thinking that the most likely scenario for NO playing is that ACR plays heart and Soul, Jez puts down his bass and hooky gets up, plays bass and jez does vocals.
I always thought Two Dogs was much better than Hooch - more bitter - but it was the latter that caught on.
The Barnster could always come on and sing Good Together? (Not that he has ever done this, to my knowledge!).
Oops. messed up there.

Would be funny to hear barney sing Shack Up!
Mad Dog 20/20 was out and about in 91
Hooch reared it's ugly head about 94. There was a whole 15 minutes granted to this on the I LOVE 90's programmes.
Alcopops have always been minging - but they were cheap, hence the attraction to youngsters, a trend which continues today. I could never understand grown men drinking bacardi breezer and VK (although I have done it masel....when Under The Influence)
Cannae drink Alcopops these days because of the fookin heartburn the next day
Just keep the Pints of Stella or Carling Extra Cold coming ma way and I'm happy.
Personally I think there's more chance of the album coming out this year than NO playing this gig. Shame.
The big drink when I first started getting served in pubs was "White Lightening" cider: it was vile, but at 8% vol. it kept my 16 year old self pretty happy!!!

Fook me I must be old - I get the heartburn the same night these days !
well if the order do play , i think we will actually get to see NEW ORDER. IE: barns, hooks, steve n gill,(as long as the latter can get a baby sitter). as they was so close to gretton i cant see tham not doing something,so as for anyone else involved with new order playing live recently i think that may be a moot point coz if anyone was going to play it would be HOPEFULLY the original lineup.;)
Sorry to drag this one back up to the top, but my tickets came through today: the correct title is, apparently, "Fac511: 'And you, forgotten?'" (note 'significant' comma.....)
found this article...
"And you, forgotten... no longer setting out for the haçienda where the roots think of the child and where the wine is finished off with fables from an old almanac. Now that's finished. You'll never see the haçienda. It doesn't exist. The haçienda must be built."
It is a well-worn but nevertheless crucial fact that The Haçienda nightclub was given its name by Rob Gretton - Wythenshawe's first, but probably not its last, Situationist. Rob (New Order's long-term manager) had chanced on the name in a poetic urban future fantasy (written in 1953 by the 19-year-old pre- Situationist hero Ivan Chtcheglov) in a copy of Christopher Gray's seminal "Leaving the 20th Century", a book of translations given to him by confirmed intellectual Anthony Wilson. A canny and articulate lad from Salford (and later Factory's founder), Wilson was at Cambridge University in 1968, hanging about with students who, inspired by the collaboration of real-life workers and Les Enrages turning cars over on the streets of Paris, passed around such hip texts in the hope of starting a revolution. In Cambridge. Both Rob and Tony agreed that the name was a great one, and fully appreciated the contemporary context for two men about to open a nightclub. If we dust it off one more time, we can see how it still resonates in the light of all their expectations and the significance the Haçienda came to have at the dawn of a new kind of club culture.
