Does anyone know how many people attended the Move festival, finnsbury park and Reading 98 gigs, I was at all these gigs but it was hard to judge. Also, does anyone know what the biggest audience the order have played to?

i guess it would be one of the outdoor festivals in the usa..or maybe big day out in australia.
discounting festivals i would lump a guess at wembley arena as biggest uk audience..i could be wrong.

i was there mate,the missus for robbie and me for norder,it was very funny,you could spot the new order fans a mile off,jumping around when they were on .
the krauts just stood there like statues! until they played blue monday they went mad !
a long way to go to see new order but managed to hear tracks from yet unreleased get ready.
there were over 60,000 in the crowd,dont know how many no fans were there,but there were quite a few!

Couldnae tell you the exact figures, there must have been 40 odd thousand for Reading 98. Conservative estimates for Finsbury would be 25,000 and about the same for Move. PLEASE remember I was a wee bit drunk at all of these, so I might be a bit out. The Mungosdorfer had 63,000 as far as them early reports showed. New Order have played Brazil a couple of times, surely there were more people there, and maybe in America when they toured with the Bunnies in 87? You'll have to ask the *ahem* older fans;)
I reckon one of the US gigs had the biggest attendance - certainly not Wembley, though I do remember it being sold out. My brother (jammy b**tard) managed to get 12 tickets in row 6 - sitting me right in front of Hooky...

Can't think of anything off the top of my head that will beat the 63,000 on the Robbie Williams gig, but that wasn't exactly their crowd, was it ?
Move was probably the biggest UK gig where people were going to see them as a headliner, as opposed to Glastonbury/Reading. I think Finsbury was slightly smaller. Prior to 2002 though, I think the biggest UK gigs would have been the NEC and Wembley Arena.
Some of the US gigs in 89 and 93 were in huge venues, no idea what the crowd size was though.
There were 62,000 people at the Roskilde Festival in 1984, when New Order played on the last day.

63000 people at müngersdorfer stadium in cologne but only 400,or less, new order fans.the rest for robbie,they gave new order a lot of buuhh´s.sorry for all the german kiddies.

Not bad though, is it ? 40,000 people coming to see you play, it's a bit different to attending a festival where fans from so many bands attend, plus those who just go because of the event. At least when you go on tour as headliners, you know that people are paying to see you. Finsbury Park was a genuine New Order gig, with support, and they were certainly the major draw at Move, seeing as it wasn't a camping event.
Reading 98 was a genuine New Order gig:D People hadn't seen em for 5 years (or more) so the majority of the crowd were there for the Order, poor ole Garbage were left with less than half the crowd the Order had. In fact 93 was as well, except maybe the 200 or so Dinasour Jr fans that murdered me and ruined me foowkin trainers! Bastards. Luckily it was the Bluetones before us in 98;) NEC 89 was me debut - I think it was about 12,500. MENA must be near the same in 98... although it wasnae quite full.
I think at Reading 98, after New Order fans, the next biggest fan base was for Monaco!! Then Shed Seven, who I thought were good. The only week band that day were the Divine Comedy, I thought they were total dross!!

Can't really remember too much about any of the bands, we were sat on the grass next to the bar, concentrating on getting free drinks from the birds coming round with trays of promotional beer, can you remember them marking your pink wrist band with a black marker? John noticed they wiped off with a bit of effort....so the next time the birds done their rounds they marked the band again. Fuck me, we had quite a few bevvies that day. We made it in towards the end of the Bluetones (who were fucking magic) I think they played Sleazy Bedtrack, Bluetonic and IF. So we timed it well to catch their best tracks then the Order on absolute TOP form. Barney got the ball rolling with the "Lets rock the fuckin house" never looked back after that......except for WIFM being played.
The Bluetonnes are a good band, I think they played Pretty Ballerina Girl that day to. I remember getting there before the gates opened and there was a sign up saying that Gene had cancelled, that told me it was going to be a good day. If I remember correctly the day opened up with Audioweb, who were not bad, saying that I stayed on to watch Garbage, not because I like them much, but because I think Shirley Mansun is one hell of a horny cow!

Whenever the Order play a festival I thought it was yer duty to stay at the beer tents and get twatted till the band were about to come on
Plus, fuck all this 3 day festival shite, Reading was always pish before the Order appeared, which is the main reason we'd travel down on the day they played. Too many fucking students, hippies and goths at festivals
NEC was a bastard - I was only 14 and mysel John and Lorraine had seats, twas a good view I suppose, but it would have been mental to get down the front. I probably would have ended up brown breed, but it woulda been a helluva way to go. The crowd went mental that night, the Mondays warmed everyone up nicely.

Bingo: Reading was always one big long beery day waiting for New Order to come on. Having said that, I remember turning up in '93 and not being allowed into the arena with all our booze, so we made the mistake of necking it all before we went in. We then leapt about like idiots to The Breeders (who later claimed it was the worst show of their lives - I thought they were great!) and everything after that's a bit of a blur, until the Order strolled on stage of course.

That's cos Al's a big fucker - I got absolutely murdered by the Dino Jr tossers, he was probably able to look after himsel, I got battered from skinhead to skinhead. By the time New Order came on I was fucked. Reading 98 was more mental than 93, but 93 was still pretty scary. The set was more downbeat than 98 as well, maybe that's what Jarvo meant - it was a good set, but probably less of a craic cos they had all had enough of each other. If you watch the Lorely gig from the same time you can see that none of them really want to be on stage. That's what made 98 special, for the first time ever I saw Barney and Hooky both having a laugh at the same time. Even Gillian had a smile on her face, mind you, with Barney's dancing it's no surprise:D
Yeah, I think Al's problem was that he was convinced it was their last ever show, and seeing how he loves them so it was probably like waving goodbye to a departing lover....

Yep he is. Also Chris De Burgh is still big over there, somebody I know plays in his backing band to crowds of 20,000 or so on tours, then comes home and plays in pubs to crowds of 40. Bizzare.
Also funny is when he plays his own original numbers with the rest of the backing band (over here) germans travel over to see him (and its a bit of grim place to come, not like london). They always get there early and take the seats. And in the quiet numbers they all whip out little torch things and wave them in the air like its an arena gig (when in fact the venue holds 150 and there are only 75 there)

I mean, to get to 40,000...they would have to be playing Stadiums...and isn't Electronic the only one to ever play at a Stadium??? and one of the Area:One dates...maybe???

Yeah you're right. The Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View holds 25,000. I did say 40k "or less" though.
