Well i think its pretty obvious we are going to get one,dont you :nod: . i was wondering if new order are going to be drafted in to do any remixes,ala the version of lwtua on permanent. it would be nice to think that they would in order to give us a little bit of a different slant on some of the stuff that will pop up in the film,but with the new album coming out and gigs to promote will they have time ect. i hope so ,if only to save us from another straight out cash in compilation. and what tracks would we like to see/hear in the film? personally i think 1.shes lost control 2.digital. 3.atmosphere 4.dead souls

would be cool to see on celluloid but ive no doubt transmission and lwtua will appear. anyone got any thoughts on this?,maybe if we start banging on about it we may get something we want.

or maybe just cd2 of the "heart and soul" boxset. its a long time since ive listened to any other Joy division - thats not really coming down on their other tunes. that cd is my desert island disc.

Presumably the film would be set around 77-80,so it`d have to be original versions,although maybe dubbing the audio track with genuine live JD performances would be good.

I pray that the first thing we hear in the darkened theatre, even before the opening credits, is the unholy feedback of "Exercise One":

"When you're looking at life/ in a strange new room/ maybe drowning soon/ Is this the start of it all?"

...sounds very appropriate to me.

And let's not forget that they need to use live bootleg tracks for added authenticity. For example, "Ceremony" from Birm U as Tony Wilson stands in back watching the band and makes some prophetic comment to someone like, "Listen to that. That's the future of Joy Division." Or Barney struggling to keep in tune on "Decades," distracted by Ian weaving about as he prepares to collapse. Or "Insight" from the April 4 gig at the Moonlight when Ian collapses and we hear the guitar go into nasty feedback as Barney presumably rushes to Ian's aid after he collapses.

oh yes now that would be good

mind you i heard a rumour some years ago that the film co trying to bring DOOM the video game to the big screen was looking into this track as well as other suitably dark material for that soundtrack.

heres hoping.

It would have to start with early "raw" stuff from Warsaw, something like The Drawback. Moving onto Disorder. Stopping at A Means To An End and finishing with The Eternal.

Of course there will be a CD with about 14 / 15 songs on it, it would be an opportunity missed. Transmission, LWTUA, Atmosphere, SLC, Digital, Exercise One, Novelty, NDF and Twenty Four Hours should also appear. As for the film I just hope it's the same actor who played Ian in 24hr PP that gets the gig again, that guy was class :nod:

Fookinell yes, a soundtrack album !

Agree with Popey on this one, Exercise One would be just marvellous in this film. So would Dead Souls, 24 Hours, She's Lost Control, Passover.....

Personally I can't wait to hear all these in big surround sound at the cinema :)

Well, there's bound to be a OST release for whichever film 'makes it' but bear in mind, it will probably be more commercial than perhaps most of us would wish.

I agree with most of the suggestions for an opening track, but LWTUA is probably the 'safe' option that most film makers would go with.

I'd prefer 'Decades' - mirroring the start of HATYM.

I'd like to see a highly electronic version of SLC or Transmission by someone like Kraftwerk or Fischerspooner just to name a few.

Or why not an overproduced, radio-friendly, mainstream-techno version of some classic by our friend Moby? :evil4:

Surely it has to be just the original tracks, not covers of them or Moby artwank mixes ?

How about starting with At a Later Date from the Electric Circus? A great quality version exists since it was released, and the Hess comment would nicely foreground the threat of Naziism that will no doubt come up later in the film. Of course, they should bend the record a bit and make that the gig where Ian got drunk and tore up the stage, throwing boards at people (come on, they'd be closing the venue anyway) and then rolling around in a broken beer mug. Then you get the ominous scene where he comes home late and a single drop of blood falls on the kitchen floor before he goes up to bed and won't let Debbie see his cut-to-shit legs as he undresses in the dark.

Much as I loathe the little git, I assume Moby's role will largely be attracting attention to the movie by having a well-known "star" involved. I can't really see that the soundtrack can be anything other than punk/new wave classics and JD tunes, can you?

Well, if I was a producer of a movie like this, I'd like some attention in media. One way of doing that is to have a re-make/mix of a classic JD song to promote the movie. If nothing else, to have it roll at the end credits.

But then again: why not have the same tracks that everyone already have, and make the fans buy the same music again...

I think a good opener would be Atmosphere, you can just see the mist rising on a damp day over Macclesfield as the intro bassline and synths fade in, with Steve's drum hits signalling a change of camera view, from the cemetery to the high street to the Curtis's house etc. Free idea for the director there :D lol

I really hope they don't screw these films up and "Cobain-ise" Ian even more. The amount of retarded, gothlike, spotty teenagers out there who already worship him in a morbid way don't need more ammunition! :nuts: What fans like that don't realise is more often than not it is their obsessive devotion that contributes to driving their idol over the edge in the first place (I.e. Teenagers with yellow/black Nirvana tops, waste of skin)

Other tracks I would include: LWTUA, biggest hit and as it's on his gravestone, kind of hard to justify excluding, 7" version here please. Transmission as it was their big breakthrough hit at the start of their career. New Dawn Fades is another good one simply for the lyrics and imagery the production conjurs up in your mind, same goes for Twenty Four Hours. For punkier tracks to place randomly throughout the film I would include Failures, No Love Lost, Interzone, and Novelty. I would not include alot of Warsaw because I think JD distanced themselves from this material early on, almost as soon as they ditched the name.

It's hard to choose really.. I used to listen to Joy Division literally every day in 95-96 when I first discovered them. Ironically, I was initially warey of New Order and their "newfangled dance music" sound but nearly ten years on I much prefer New Order, but Joy Division are still a special band for me. They signalled me taking more of an interest in alternative music rather than just listening to what was on the radio. Subsequently I discovered a great deal of new bands that have brought me many hours of listening pleasure over the past 10 years.

Whatever happens with these movies, we're due at least one new soundtrack full of Joy Division music. I'd only consider buying it if the tracks were seriously remastered and included one or two demos (Unlikely!)
