So everybody loves New Order/Joy Division here, but I wonder how many other Manchester bands or acts you enjoy listening to> I've had a list of my favourites knocking about for a while nwo, so I though I'll share them with everyone else.
i've got time for all the above, particuarly HM and SR. What do you think about the newer Manchester stuff, such as Doves and Badly Drawn boy - both of who have done some cracking stuff recently IMO.
anyone remember the Adventure Babies ??? they did this really cool song that featured on the Cities in the park video alongside Revenge and Electronic and a host of other diverse Mancunian acts of that era.
Snake I quite enjoy the boy with his cursed drawing ability. Did you ever witness the video somebody drew for him with Joan 'the war horse' Collins in?... I quite liked that. If you've watched it right until the end and noted him slumped in his little stool while Joan mixes with the toffees would you not agree that it would have been more ironic if he was nibbling at a bowl of nuts or raisins?
The song was top whack also... and Janet is not bad for an old trout it must be said. Mind, I would crawl across her putrid body to access the late Jane Mansfield... great titties.

Yeah, pissing in the Wind it was called..a top track. A very good album for those mellower moments...

arent the chameleons a manchester band? someone once told me that they were the greatest band of the 80s, since then ive been trying to get into them but nothings happening...i think it must be mark burgess voice thats putting me off.
The singer Tim Burgess's voice is even worse !

ACR - shouldn't they be back by now? Then keep threatening.
The Fall - saw them the night before Paris last week. First time in 4 years. I won't bother for another 4, mind. Shame, they were sooperb around 92 (Free Range-uh!).
The Mondays - used to love 'em in their hey-day. Can't imagine what I really saw in them now (although the opening bars of Tart Tart still send a chill up me spine).
And, yes, King of Nothing, I for one remember The Last Tree. Cracking track. Mc Buzz B supported the Mondays a few times.
Ah...yes.... 808 State...they were quite interesting to listen to back in the day...met them the day before the 93 gig here in Dallas...they were opening for the order along with Stereo MCs...

He reappears from time to time on Justin Robertson's band - Lionrock - - You might remember Packet of Peace amongst others
MC Buzz B works with Justin Robertson right? Justin has one album about to come out and another in the works. Perhaps Buzz B will surface on a song or 2.
Gorgeous is a great album and it's aged slightly better than EX:EL

Well, amongst the huge diversity on display here, I'd plump for these:
In no real particular order -
Big Flame (GODLIKE!!) , Dub Sex, Edward Barton, King of The Slums, A Certain Ratio, James (to about 1991, then sporadically since), Happy Mondays (to about 1990), The Stone Roses (to 1990 only), Quando Quango, Swivel Hips, Prince Kool, The Great Leap Forward.
That's my dirty dozen! There's probably a few others that have escaped my memory.
Least favourite bands - there's a place for them isn't there, not this thread however!! :)

What? Noise. 808 State. The Badly Bearded One. Doves. Polythene. Basher. Lunatic Fringe. Biting Tongues.
I can't believe I didn't remember to mention The Smiths in the two lists above...jeezus...my amnesia is really getting bad these days.
Well The Ratio's certainly get my vote after NO. Also quite liked the 1st 2 Railway Children singles, A Gentle Sound and Brighter though their first album wasn't up to much apart from a song called Big Hands of Freedom.
The Monday's first 2 albums and subsequent 12" releases were pretty devastating at the time - they were truly different from anything else around at the time. They went a bit 'comic book' after the release of Thrills and Pills IMHO.
808 State were top drawer as well.

Aren't Section 25 from Blackpool? Likewise Railway Children from Wigan? I mean, I have some great records by both these bands but I didn't include them in my list cos of the geographical context. Or am I just being pedantic as usual?
And, Muffy, what about great bands from Scotland ?
Mogwai, Jesus and Mary Chain, Belle & Sebastian, Beta Band, Arab Strap...
Mondays, Roses, acr, charlatans (near Mcr), smiths, northside, 808, fall, james, oasis... most of them really
