Does it still exist? Why don't we all (and i mean all) got there for a drink one day? Might be a bit expensive for you none UK residents mind.....

Yep, indeed it's still there - two of my best mates used to work behind the bar and in the catering respectively. But, sadly, it's not that glamorous anymore. Truth be told, it's a fucking dive now - dingy and smelly. And everything's crumbling somewhat. Mind you, it still gets pretty packed on weekends with loads of studenty types and Manc non-luminaries trying to outpose or outsmoke or outdrink one another. Not so good any more for star spotting- unlike the early 90's heyday. I wouldn't recommend it really, it's not that brilliant a place - you should try the venue next door but two: Night and Day - much more homely and looking more like a Ducth coffee-shop with every passing day. And the bands they have on there most days of the week are definitely worth checking out - cheap admission too!

I've been to Dry 201 and The Hacienda in 1995. I was studying in London and went to Manchester to know the famous places owned by New Order. I liked a lot. Dry was a little empty but we got two or three pints before going to The Hacienda. The Hacienda was nice but only the downstairs were actually open. In 1994 I went to these places too but I was alone. This time i saw Tony Wilson. I was completely drunk and I asked a New Order song to DJ and I was not attended, of course.

Questions:

1. In 1995, was The Hacienda and Dry 201 were still owned by New Order?

2. Was The Hacienda destroyed?

3. Do they have any participation in Dry 201 these days?

4. Do they go to Dry 201 frequently?

Answer to number two: The Hac is gone, they "rebuilt" it for the 24 Hour Party People movie but it's gone.

Actually caught a cast photo in the most recent Q, the guys for Joy Division look spot on...except that "Barney" has the trademark haircut from the mid-Eighties, but a minor detail, I digress...

Actually, I managed to "acquire" some of the Hacienda's famous blue bricks before the whole place was torn down. They're available to anyone who makes sensible offers......ha ha ha :D

Hey, Martin....Tell me...was I lost or something? I was in Manchester for a day few months ago ( sometime in May this year ) and I went to look for this Dry 201...but couldn't find it?..I was in Oldham Road or something like that...but it was closed and under renovation ( plastic covers, dust everywhere )

Was that the Dry 201 I saw?

Yes that was it, just up from Vinyl Exchange, and the Night and Day cafe etc. Across the road from Eastern Bloc records and Afflecks Palace as it used to be known

...but you know what they've done don't you, Phil, they've only gone and stuck YET ANOTHER fuckin' yuppie block of flats between Fat City and Night and Day just to plug the gap when all the while I was hoping it would be another record shop or a bar/venue. And I'm also pissed off that the old M1 secondhand record shop (downstairs in the basement beneath the piercing shop three doors down from Eastern Block) mysteriously vanished a couple of months ago- to be replaced by a hip hop store. Whatthefuck is going on in our fair city all of a sudden? It's all yuppies and skater/nu-metal kids fucking everywhere. As if all the perennial scallies weren't bad enough..... :finger:

Oh, and I think Piccadilly Records sucks - its a rip off. Vinyl Exchange will rule FOREVER like it has done for the last 14 years! Fuck the rest V. EX is the best!!

Thank, Phil....so that was Dry 201...well I guess it was timing for me then... And shops like M1, Picadilly etc...I can't remember which is which.. all I remembered what there's a pretty good one that sells seconds, located at a corner and has a basement...that where I saw the hessian covered Still but unfortunately very badly stained...passed up the chance to take it home to Sydney.

you know what Martin, I;ve not been there for eons- but it doesn't surprise me that yet more flats are going up in the Northern Quarter!!! I spent many of my mis-spent youth years hanging around there and it is sad to see a lot of history disappear. Still, there's always the Triangle to look forward too!!!!!! What a pile of.....
