Has anyone tried to emulate the sound of the 6-string bass-guitar used by New Order and The Cure with success ??

Or where can I get a simmilar instrument (more cheaper)?

Has anyone tried to build a simmilar guitar, changing strings, tunings, pickups, etc. with any success ?

Thanks

i started a thread on this a few days ago...

but you can do it with a regular electric if you run it through a whammy pedal...to some degree it'll sound like the six string bass, or a baritone at least...

a baritone guitar will sound like the six string bass, the longer scale lowers the harmony....but thats basically what a baritone is-a six string bass:nod:

placebo have used (or still do) a fender VI bass, the beloved used to have shergold marathon 6 basses (and they were definitely trying to emulate new order at the time).

There's a band called re-order who have a six string bass, and they very successfully emulate the sounds of New Order (and The Cure in soundchecks !). If you are in the area, you can catch them tonight at the Rock Cafe 2000 in Stourbridge.

Doesn't hook play a four string on TPK?

He does. And, Simon plays a 4-string on several Cure songs, too.

One of the cheapest ways to emulate Hooky's sound is to use any four string and stick it through a 'Zoom' bass box - there's even a pre-set that does pretty well, but the thing is sort-of programmable.

As for emulating the Cure - who'd want to?
