Hey all,

I have been a NewOrder fan for almost 20 years now and I have to admit that I am paying less and less attention to the band. They haven't done enough to catch my attention, they don't tour the United States, their album is taking way too long to be released, the get very limited "on-air" time in the Chicago area, and I can only listen to "Dream Attack" or other songs so much until I have to put on new and more exciting music, like "The Stills" or "Radiohead" which are still relevant rock acts, unlike NewOrder has been the last few years.

Come on folks, why are we kidding ourselves?? I love this website and I love neworder, but how much of their "guest dj-ing" do we have to take? Or they helped produce a "track" on some b-list music act's cd? Or Hooky plucks a few bass strings as a guest appearance with some crappy up and coming, so to speak, band???

Until this band does something exciting again, I don't know how long I will be listening to their music. Their CD's are getting cataloged farther and farther back in my collection and I am not too upset about not listening to them on a weekly basis anymore.

I used to be a purist and compare every band that came out with neworder...Were they better than NewOrder? Does neworder have better melodies? Is Hooky a better bassist? Does this album compare with Techniques, yada, yada, yada...

I mean, come on!...I bought Morrissey's new album a few weeks ago and it is totally brilliant! I even plunked down some cash to see him play live!! At least he tours the United States, instead of shunning the largest musical audience in the world. Also, last summer I went to see Radiohead play live and I was moved more than I have ever been moved at a concert before in my life. Then I thought back to the few NewOrder concerts I attended and realized I was shafted!!! They played barely an HOUR in 1993 for their republic tour!!! After the concert, being the purist, I told myself, "Oh, that is just New Order's style, they get bored if they play too long..." What a piece of shit!...Radiohead played over 2 hours!!! That was an unbelievable concert that I will never forget! Sadly, I am quickly forgetting the mediocre New Order concerts of the past... Oh well...

Anyway, just some random thoughts and I was wondering if anyone else is getting a little frustrated with the band as well?

hmmmm....bored or frustrated...not really...I'd love it if they put a new album out every year or two like they did back in the 80's....and of course, it would be nice if they would do a gig in Dallas every couple of years...but I've come to accept the fact that it doesn't happen that way any more...I've expanded what I listen to a bit, adding in bands that I've come in contact with via Pete Tong and Judge Jules, and our local dance radio station...but at the end of the day, I always come back to the order...greatest band I've ever had the joy of seeing live, or hearing on recorded media...

and there is no other band that I would fly to San Francisco, or London, to see...and I'm just biding my time until another trip across the pond to see the lads beckons!!!!

I'ts no bad thing that you are listening to different stuff because there's loads of excellent music you miss out on if you focus too much on one band.

I never tire of New Order's music, and can't imagine that I ever will, but thats probably, in part, because I love loads of different stuff and don't listen to New Order constantly.

It stands to reason that interest will dip a bit when there is little happening with the band, but i'm sure NO fans will start getting really excited once there is some news of a release date for the new album and the possibility of a tour etc (at least here in the UK anyway).

I think the number of years between Republic and Get Ready demonstrates New Order have got quite a dedicated fanbase. I for one would rather wait a bit longer for a quality album, than something that is rushed (but hopefully not too long!!!)

new order stays relevant because, even though the lyrics and music are unchanging, those listening continue to change. lyrics to an agnst ridden teen's ear take on a different meaning as we get older and the world changes.

yeah we all get fed up waiting for new releases ,these things take time. look at pink floyd,god they take years between albums but still have a dedicated fanbase who go out and snap up everything that they release straight away,same as us no guys,we slag em off sumthing chronic for not releasing enough material,but when they do we are the first in the queue! as for listening to the music,one week i might be caning get ready,the next pc&l .i do listen to other bands quite a lot,but always seem to come back to no. there is such a diverse range of musical styles that i could never get bored with no. sometimes i like to get the entire back catalogue of vinyl out and play it from the eary jd stuff to get ready. who knows what will happen in the future,maybe new order will come out of the shadows and do a world tour,including the us! we can only speculate on what will happen in the future,in the mean time enjoy what you've got. the back catalogue is fantastic,something in their for everyone,judging by some of the replies to another post regarding the length of time people have been in to new order there still seem to be quite a few no fans emerging. this can only do good for the band,more fans.more album sales,more albums. regards

You should come to a compromise, you should love Morrisey and New Order. :D

I do admit to buying more Smiths and Morrisey stuff than New Order at the moment, but thats because I have seen Morrisey live last night, and he was brilliant, it would be very difficult for anybody to match the performance he made.

They have always been the same, they do what they do for themselves and certainly not for the average punter. Of course it's frustrating but you still love the bastards don't ya. Their music is just about untouchable, they have only disappointed me once, and that was in 1990. You soon forget though with their humour and style, only last night I was listening to a CD that DoN sent me which had the funniest version of Barney's live singing (Weirdo - Byron Bay 87) where Barney gives up singing half way through to start SHOUTING the lyrics :lol: In all seriousness their back catalogue is second to no-one, and it was great when Billy Corgan compared New Order'd backlogue to The Beatles, that's exactly what it means to me an all :nod:

I fer one cannae fuckin wait fer the new album.....which we will probably see in about 4 years time;) They always produce stuff that's worth waiting for - I'm thinking Regret and Special from the 4 year hide and seek game, then Crystal and primitive Notion from the 8 year gap on record.

One wish would be for some fucking LIVE gigs to look forward to, I know they are getting on a wee bit and probably still partake in too much partying after the shows, but there's fuck all else to look forward to in my calender (other than Celtic dominating Europe:D )

A few gigs here and there wouldn't hurt. Not like we're asking for a full-blown US tour with all the BS trimmings, just a couple of Manchester or London shows, maybe even Birmingham. Or mainland Europe, just to give us a different bar to try !

I want them to do a show at the Manchester Appolo next year to promote their new album. As longs as they sing some NO and JD classic it would be heaven.

Apart from having met a few of the members in night clubs and seen Barney perform with the Doves, Hooky with ACR and DJ'ing I have never seen New Order live.
