Dying New Order Fan....

Hey all,

I have been a NewOrder fan for almost 20 years now and I have to admit that I am paying less and less attention to the band. They haven't done enough to catch my attention, they don't tour the United States, their album is taking way too long to be released, the get very limited "on-air" time in the Chicago area, and I can only listen to "Dream Attack" or other songs so much until I have to put on new and more exciting music, like "The Stills" or "Radiohead" which are still relevant rock acts, unlike NewOrder has been the last few years.

Come on folks, why are we kidding ourselves?? I love this website and I love neworder, but how much of their "guest dj-ing" do we have to take? Or they helped produce a "track" on some b-list music act's cd? Or Hooky plucks a few bass strings as a guest appearance with some crappy up and coming, so to speak, band???

Until this band does something exciting again, I don't know how long I will be listening to their music. Their CD's are getting cataloged farther and farther back in my collection and I am not too upset about not listening to them on a weekly basis anymore.

I used to be a purist and compare every band that came out with neworder...Were they better than NewOrder? Does neworder have better melodies? Is Hooky a better bassist? Does this album compare with Techniques, yada, yada, yada...

I mean, come on!...I bought Morrissey's new album a few weeks ago and it is totally brilliant! I even plunked down some cash to see him play live!! At least he tours the United States, instead of shunning the largest musical audience in the world. Also, last summer I went to see Radiohead play live and I was moved more than I have ever been moved at a concert before in my life. Then I thought back to the few NewOrder concerts I attended and realized I was shafted!!! They played barely an HOUR in 1993 for their republic tour!!! After the concert, being the purist, I told myself, "Oh, that is just New Order's style, they get bored if they play too long..." What a piece of shit!...Radiohead played over 2 hours!!! That was an unbelievable concert that I will never forget! Sadly, I am quickly forgetting the mediocre New Order concerts of the past... Oh well...

Anyway, just some random thoughts and I was wondering if anyone else is getting a little frustrated with the band as well?

im pretty new to the band, but i love them as much as the oldest fan does...never seen them live but would love to! too bad i currently reside in the bands no-fly zone(america):(

frustrated = yes.

however, nothing i hear touches me in the same way as newOrder's music. sure some artists are making more amazing, brilliant records and i've seen tons of bands that blow away newOrder on stage but their wayward magic still burns bright in my soul. i will always return to my newOrder records when i need to remember my past and build up for the future.

I'm frustrated also. New Order needs to do a better job of keeping their fans around.

106.7 plays some good stuff. although the stuff they have been playing lately isn't as good as the stuff that was played when it first came on the air.

I'd rather wait for them to do it right than have them push out alot of shit like Bowie did, U2 does, the Cure after Distintegration, Cut the Crap, Metallica after And Justice...(just to name a band that jumped the shark) the B52s, REM, ect. In the meantime I enjoy what I have.

BUT WTF, 511, 3 16, Retro, International, Sessions and Get Ready released in the past few years.

You cannot be serious when you mention NewOrder's "World Tour"...they stopped in California for Moby's festival. I was even disappointed in their role in 24hpp, The Happy Monday's got most of the screentime; who gives a shite about Bez??? I never like the HMondays...yikes! Also, this supposed "new album"...we should be lucky to see it released by end of this decade. I am sorry, but NewOrder is not good at "PR"...they seem to have no interest in keeping their fans happy. I predict with the new album, they will do a couple gigs in Manchester, a gig in Brazil, and then call it quits....then claim they are working on a new album and then release it 10 years later. What a farce!

They don't owe us anything, folks. What ever they do is fine by me - they've given us some great music and great gigs over the years. If you don't like what they do now - listen to something else. There *are* other bands, you know.

Fact is that they have played more dates in the US than anywhere else in the world over the years. Now if all you septics bought more records, maybe they'd want to come back ?!

I've been out of the whole "music scene" lately, but I certainly would plunk down a few dollars to take in a NO show. I agree that they don't do so much to keep their fans over here excited, but let's face it: the guys are in their late forties, at a time when most bands take to the road to only offer a pale imitation of their former self and run through the classics they've recorded simply to keep their houseboats from sinking or something. :D

Fact is, NO are in the studio making new music, which we may or may not see by the end of the year. What's more, we're not the hyperactive teenyboppers who have to know everything about the artists we love. We can wait, so long as the music they release is top-notch.

So, I'm not a dying fan. More like "whatever, just let me know so I can take Low-life out and put the new one in" :headphones:

'Tis a bit more complicated than that. I'll also break it down as 80-86 and 87-present (1987 was when NO started getting 'popular' and playing larger venues regularly)

While not being right overall (though he's only one backbreaking US tour off) Tim is absolutely correct post '86, with 1989 being the most extreme example (out of 40 gigs, 35 were in the US)...I mean having nearly as many US gigs as all other regions (post '86) combined does seem silly. But I just think this reflects the realities of playing in larger venues, lots more of those in the Great Wasteland...er, *Heartland* than elsewhere. I think the present (2001-) touring schedule reflects a more sensible strategy.

Kraftwerk, as a useful comparison, this year just played their North American dates in eastern Canada and on the west coast (Vancouver, Seattle, SF (twice), and Coachella. Very telling, that.

How about waiting 15 years between gigs. That's how long I had to wait. I dare say the US has been better served by New Order tours than OZ. Heck when they come to your country jump in your car/train/bus whatever and travel a few hundered kays/miles to get there. As I recall they did play a number of dates on that Moby festival tour in North America. Well in Oz in 2002 they did the Big Day Out festival circuit to promote Get Ready (plus a couple of other gigs). Yes I did jump in my car twice to travel to Sydney (300 KM each way) to get there. And yes I thoroghly enjoyed the experience.

How can you say you are tired of playing the same old material. This is a well I won't say "Golden Age" , but at least good time to be a New Order fan. What about that 8 year break before Get Ready. Since Get Ready we've still had more new material. Here To Stay, Vietnam, Saville Soundtrack, Sessions. Heck we are even expecting a new album which we know they are working on.

So all in all the Order have been active in the last 3 years or so, new material, and tours.

If you didn't manage to catch them when they visited your country last, well perhaps you should have tried harder, and don't complain that they didn't perform in your town.

look ive been into jd/no since the very early days and to be honest they pissed on their chips a long time ago as far as me being a loyal cash paying fan goes. id rather d/load a new order album for nowt than pay for it,which is what ill do when the new one comes out. WHY? because if they had called it a day in the 90s and come right out and said it and that was that then fair enough,but all we have had as fans since is barely sparodic activity just to top up the bank balances. RETRO is a prime example of this not a NEW track in sight,the fucking lazy showers of shite. i might think they produce some of the greatest music in pop/rock but till they start (too late really) to get stuck in and record/tour ect they can fuck off.:(

"mediocre New Order concerts"?? Oi!! Well I've this to say about that: Been a NO/JD fan for 20+ years of my 31 here on this rock and I consider myself PRIVILAGED for being able to see NO 3 times here in the states and once in Japan. Have I been to better 'Performances' & longer sets? Sure have...but when I saw NO live...I saw God.

Thanks for the breakdown. I would think the band's actually doing a favor to their UK fans by limiting their dates there. That way if you were a fanatic and caught every show on the tour you'd only have to see the same set a few times as opposed to over 10.:D

Listeners in Korea just started paying attention to New Order and Joy Division. A few NO/JD fans has already been in Korea, but NO/JD become moere recognized here now.

C'mon...not the greatest concerts are given by the order..

There was a time in 89 or 90; cannot remember the exact date, but during their technique concert I can remember there being several moments on stage when it looked like not a single person was playing an instrument. I love techno music, but I love new order's style of music because they blend the live and sequenced elements together. At that point during the concert, there was not a single person on stage playing a single note, and I remember feeling a little awkward for the band....Then, after a 55 minute set, they were finished. At the time, I loved it and was screaming to the mountaintops about NewOrder and how great they were, but now, in retrospect, they cheated me(us)....
