Prepare to be completely overtaken by this modern day classic - an absolutely awesome collection of Bossa/ Lounge cover versions of alternative hits performed by a group of French musicians and sultry female vocalists who have created the finest covers album since Atom Heart's glorious "Pop Artificielle" (under the Lb moniker) a good 5 years ago. "Nouvelle Vague" is a concept AND album that could so easily have fallen victim to cliché or tired novelty - but the incredible success story with it is to be found in the inspired arrangements and deliveries that avoid both obvious pitfalls. The careful arrangements and subtle modifications (lovingly crafted by Marc Collins and Olivier Libeaux) beautifully utilise a host of instruments and typically seductive french vocals that imbue the industrial leanings of many of the originals with a sundrenched late night exoticism that takes you someplace between "grey 70's Manchester and the white sands of Copacabana". But most importantly - "Nouvelle Vague" possesses supreme populist qualities (we kid you not - EVERY time we play this in the shop, and we mean EVERY time, we get hassled every 90 seconds by someone of unspecified musical leaning wanting to know what on earth it is and how they can get hold of it) - while holding on to a glorious leftfield determination.
