Matthew Tarbox is an American from Connecticut who would like people to believe he's someone else with some of his inferences about writing albums. He isn't one of New Order, don't worry people.
Unfortunately he has seen fit to make a "contribution" to something that has absolutely nothing to do with him, and without having any idea of what he has stumbled into. He's also seemed to miss that I am also a musician who is currently working on wriing new songs, but there you go !
Sure, I was wrong to be so insensitive in my indignant response to Kevin's message, with what seemed good reason at the time, and for which I have already apologised. One or two saw fit to point a finger at me on face value, without knowing any of the background, and to the person who sent me three abusive emails, I'm sure your mother is proud of you.
My response was entirely based on the fact that I resented the inference that Kevin was in any way hassled or received unsolicited correspondence, and the way he has portrayed it would make it appear that the "private e-mail address" was sought out and used without his permission. The "private e-mail address" happens to be exactly the same one he quoted as the one he uses here. Kevin implies that he was hassled, this is complete fabrication for the purposes of embellishment.
At the time of writing that message I was unaware of the extent of Kevin's current battle with self-doubt and depression, which was revealed to me during a reconnaissance of his website's message board. It does explain the perceived need to attack me vehemently on all fronts, when all I has actually done was say I didn't like a track and quoted a couple of well-known anecdotes. Kevin kindly set the record straight with those anecdotes. This was hardly a "dignified response", more a passionate and rather irrational one. The reasons for the need to defend oneself so passionately are well-documented on Kevin's message board (by himself, I hasten to add, and not in relation to this event).
I still retain the right to not like Haystack as a track, in much the same way that I don't like Slow Jam, the latest R n B rubbish on MTV or half of Pop Idol. The fact that I do like a lot of Kevin's work and hold him in very high regard as a songwriter is rendered irrelevant it seems, as NOOL has become this thing where people have to be seen to suck up to "famous people".
To those who took the time to mail me and agree with where I was, thank you. To those who thought it appropriate to pillory me, thank you also. To Kevin Hewick, good luck with the singing. To Mat Austin Tarbox, disappear back to your hole content that you have stirred the pot sufficiently. To the rest of NOOL, it's been emotional.
