Was wondering whether or not people (or critters) would find taking an old Order song and twisting it with a new 'stylee would be worth doing?... Would Everything's Evidently Just Gone Brown (for no apparent reason) benefit from a more beefy sequence treatment and a smoother vocal?... could TemperatureTakers do with a make over?... is Throw Me a Bone in need of a new air filter?... mmmmm....

personally, I would chase a fox down a hole to hear a new version of 5-8-6-6-6 utilising the bands enormous collection of synthesize machines, drum globules and vast array of ill-tuned geetars.

What say you?

It must be stressed that we're talking New Order doing New Order versions... not MC Ringer and the Dinger loading the bass drum into Re-mix editor 15 for the PC (available via Amazon for only £19.95 inc. post and packaging)... we're talking proper new versions of quality old material....

I think stuntman you may well be taking your life in your hands and skating with sharp skates on H2O that is at -5°centigrade were -15° would be safer and thicker.It sounds good in theory but do you think the old duffers could do it with the panache of say the Technique era.I'd say definitely not if that ozzie osbourne is producing,maybe if it was the Comical braziers whose array of gadgets sounds expansive and probably set them back a few bob as well.

I'd rather have the new material recorded on the original equipment of the 82/83 era, under the same conditions, i.e. with the same kind and amount of external chemical stimulants and digging up Martin Hannet to turn the knobs.

That's quite a novel idea that offensive youngster. Yes that would be quite cool doing new shit on old mice... in fact, it is the original tinny EGG sequencer parts I like so I can only imagine beautiful objects cobining something like .... Turn My Feet utilising the old equipment worth about 10 pence from your local newsagents. I'm not sure how they wouuld go about resurrecting Martin's Hammer from the gravy boat though... has Hooky got a specialist potion for such incidents?

BL & Tomato would be cracking again with a snippit of new flavour... mind, judging by the recent mixes which were nothing short of a calamity by the band (BLT.. TBTHOG etc.) perhaps the old days are gone and never forgotten.

Not sure about the kazoo ideas.... surely a simple corgi ball thrown against a sheet of glass would have more impact than an arse-to-kazoo-ratio comeback re-mix number?

I came across a most bizzare synth version of Twisted Tenderness which i mailed over to Seb and Nic, its most strange maybe it will make its way onto this site one day (tho i doubt it!)

To come back to the original subject. I have, in my head, a possible reworking/revamping of Lonesome Tonight, speeding it up. I know it may sound heretic but it sounds good in my jead.

I agree Huntsman it would be rather a travesty ! but some people will desecrate anything.. just hear the sly and robbie remixes of RIAD!!!

it would also be interesting to hear some later material "downgraded"... especially stuff off technique and republic. This theory if i remember correctly was discussed in part on the questions for new order thread - under the guise of "unplugged" imagine NO playing to a small audience (ala REM) with all the audience sitting round em in a big circle.. hectic !! :)

Personally I'd love to hear them rework some of the original/older stuff in a studio. Maybe they could make the songs on Movement come to life (unlikely), and maybe they could produce Brotherhood properly nowadays !

The 87 versions of Temptation and Confusion were good, and the Peel session a couple of years back breathed fresh life into older songs.

Funnily enough I thought the 'new' versions of Temptation and Confusion recorded for Substance were weak, especially in comparison with the original 12"s. I've never been able to get to grips with that version of Temptation. The version of Confusion on Substance was the one they always played 'live' but seemed much harder in concert than on Substance. I don't like the version of Ceremony on Substance compared with the other one either - talk about hard to please!

I think the best songs for reworking would be album tracks and not the best know classics like BLT and BM. However, Sub-Culture could use a touch-up without those horrible backing vocals.

Temptation as done by a fey acoustic group ala Belle and Sebastian (it could work..)
