How Popular would you like NewOrder to be?

Since this film is about to come out, I got to thinking - how popular do I want the Band to be - i figure more popular than they are now, but id hate to see them turn into u2, attracting every pillock within a 150mile radius to each gig. What do You think.

I don't want them to be popular for me, I want them to be popular for them. Remember, fame and popularity can be two very different things.

Why the elitism , are you one of these fellas who hates to be seen to like something TOO popular ? Fuck that scenario , it'd end in a Stiff Kittens versus Warsaw debate . Besides the Olympia gig seemed to attract every DRUNKEN pillock from a more than 150 mile radius , and was none the worse for it .

Well I certainly would like them to be more popular and well known. Every1 I ask says theve never heard of new order. I took a cd round my mates and played it to them. They just laughed at it.

I dont think they ever wanted to be really popular though. They just wanted to do there thing and thats it, not much fame, just concentrating on the music. When you think about it there a shy lot reallly.

I'd like it if they were slightly more popular then they are now. But with mass popularity you get masses of idiotic fans. Maybe if the popularity was brought back to the Republic era levels? That might be enough to ensure you can always get the back catalogue in the music stores (although HMV and Virgin are actually very good about it here), and that they'd tour in slightly more obscure places (like here) without needing to be a support act.

I like them the way they are, not superstars, not unknowns, just...well...NewOrder

I want them to rule the world, well musicly. That would mean that all my records would sudenddenly appreciate in value. Then I could sell them and finaly buy that tropical island I've had my eye on. :D

Um, the more records they sell, the less value they have.

They are still often namedropped by the British media on numerous occasions and their songs are used time and time again on tv advertising and trailers. I get the impression that as a nation we are quite proud of them in a way, of what they achieved and how they shaped the dance genre and bought together guitar and electronic music whilst maintaing a cool and unthreatening image.

So most people over here have heard of them but as the years roll on i think they become less relevant to the younger generation.

Still saying that, the band and their true fans couldnt give a toss

I want them to get the recognition they deserve for the muisc they produce and not be victims of the current marketing-led hype machine that is the music industry.

I guess my final answer is "popular enough to keep doing it" cos nobody else does it half as well.

Quite an interesting question, but I couldn't align my response with any of the options.

A few years ago, I wanted them to have massive commercial success, be on TOTP every week, sell loads of records, have everyone liking them. That apparently wasn't part of Factory's plan.

Nowadays, I can (maybe selfishly) see the benefits of them becoming huge, belatedly, with demand for more gigs, media exposure etc. Multimedia is ready for them now, it wasn't ready for them when they were ready for it.

All I want for them is to gain the satisfaction that they've produced the record they want to, and that they are happy with it. They are rich men now, but I guess still unfulfilled. There won't be big tours, media everywhere. They don't need that now, it's too late in their careers and lives.

As long as the Order still make good music for all I care they could go on their own Zoo TV tour. ;)

Ideally, I'd like them to be one of the biggest bands in the world. Realistically, I know that won't happen now but I'd still like them to be a bit better known than they are at the minute.

I'd like them to be the most popular band in the world - but I owned the only copies of their records :D

im reallt not bothered if they have 5 fans or if there as big as u2 as long as they stillmake great records thats all i really care about

i could care less whether they sell out at wembley or provide the entertainment for friday night bingo at the local senior centre--as long as they sound good.
