Orgy bunch of assholes

I just can't believe my eyes when I read that (a recent interview with Orgy members):

Were you ever afraid of being typecast as that band who did "Blue Monday?" RS: If we didn't have our own hit single, I would be scared. But we had our own songs after that. I mean, Marilyn Manson, Limp Bizkit, all these different bands were breaking with covers, so we were in good company. I think that we ended it for covers with the biggest cover ever. If we didn't have any other top 10 singles, (NAME THE HITS ) I probably wouldn't be in the band. I'd probably be, "That was fun, thanks for the money, goodbye." But we've had success with our other songs so that kind of validated us.

There's an ongoing trend, even now, with covers. Do you think you guys kind of started that? BH: I think a handful of bands got that rolling. RS: It seems like a lot of them — like Dope, immediately after coming off tour with us, they did a cover of a song that we kind of half covered in "Blue Monday," we do a Dead Or Alive thing ["You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) "]. We kind of just throw it in there. And then they came out with the single of it and it didn't work. But it just goes to show, though, when you do a cover — the cover that we did of "Blue Monday," we actually wrote a chorus. We added a chorus to it. We actually rewrote the song. And I think that that's the key if you do a cover. We didn't do it like New Order did and New Order hates it. They hate us.

Really? RS: Yeah, all those English cocky bastards hate us. But what they don't realize, I thought it was extremely flattering and we took their song and made it modern and rewrote it. BH: And you know what was so great when we came out with that version of that song? There were tons of fans that thought it was our own song. :D RS: I mean, they would even hear the original and they would be like, "That doesn't even sound like it." Which is kind of cool. I think we did that song, literally recorded in like three hours.

I'd like to know what was so bloody original about Orgy's version... sounds hardly any different from the original version I reckon, if I've heard the right cover that is.

this band is half assed, and the cover of blue monday is all theyll ever be known for. end. of. story.

on another note, theyre version of blue monday is a guilty pleasure of mine, i do like it, i liked it alot when it first came out, i believe it was in like 1999, if im not mistaken.. but yeah, i like it, im sorry, but its still not as good as the original.

theres a DJ here in dallas named Ed Crunk, ive heard him do amazing things with the original blue monday

The only thing remarkable about Orgy's cover of BM is the fact that they didn't use any synths or sequencers, but that's about it. The song came out in 1998, a lot of metalheads liked it, but you don't hear much about them anymore, unless you actually pick up a copy of Circus magazine - a once-decent rock mag that went downhill when nu-metal broke out in the late '90s. Sadly, no one knew that New Order did the original song. I knew the song was a cover, when I heard it on the radio back when I was 14 or 15, but I sought out to hear the original, which is something I always do. When Smashing Pumpkins did the Cure's "A Night like this" and Depeche Mode's "Never let me down," I wanted to hear the originals. I prefer the Cure's version by far, but I actually like both versions of NLMDA. With BM, I liked the original far more, especially since it seemed more dance-oriented than a pseudo-goth, nu-metal song, which is what Orgy turned BM into.

Where is the mp3 (if there is one) for this sad sack of shit (i've only heard it once, and it sounded alright).

The only good thing about Orgy's version of Blue Monday is that they will have had to pay royalties to New Order, which means that the net loss per copy on their own original version(another good Factory myth) will be further offset by the sales of someone else's records.

So that's why New Order let Orgy do a cover of BM; to get back the 10 pence they lost on every sale of BM because of the Peter Saville cover. Smart.

i wouldnt consider them numetal either. they are more electronic oriented.
