IALP (?)

I would be very surprised if it were Ian. Just because he liked the instrument doesn't mean he could play it, and we know that Bernard learned to play one at school.

___________________________________________________________ In Jack Magazine (Jan 2003) Barney and Hooky were talking about the melodica.
Barney:It's a lovely colour, unfortunately they're are not the best ones as the keys jam, they just look the best. The melodica we inherited from Ian.He was an Augustus Pablo fan and introduced it to us. Hooky:He used it on "In a lonely place" with us just before he died.
Yeah I know, I read that. Doesn't ring true though from Hooky. You can't just pick up a melodica and play it properly from the off, you have to know how to play it, and the IALP demo was most likely a single take. Can't see Ian rehearsing a new instrument at that stage in his career/life, and we already know about his capacities for other instruments, e.g. the guitar. If he'd known how to play it before May 1980, he'd have used it on other songs (yes, there's a few seconds in Decades but we don't know any more about that), he wasn't a recent convert to Augustus Pablo.
If it was a single take, how was Barney playing the synth and melodica at the same time? The melodica part on that demo isn't the most complex piece of music in the world so I wouldn't have thought it beyond Ian's ability to play it.

Well spotted that man !
50/50 Chance of getting it right and I got it wrong?
Ye's are all cunts:D
Glad to see I got the thread going - and we got the correct answer in the end though![]()
I reckon Ian played it. Cos Hooky said so. He was there, he saw it and he said it was Ian.
We've all had a go at recorder at school. Its not that fucking hard.
Thats that then. :bag:
Hi from Germany, I'd say they have used the melodica before on the demo-version of Atmosphere, didn't they? BTW my vote goes for Ian, too. Dirk

I'm not so sure about that. The only thing Barney played at school was the goat.
