£146 return on BA from Edinburgh. How much is the ferry?

Less than £40 return to walk-on.
It costs more if you want a berth (it's an overnight ferry), and more still more to take the car (I'd take mine, but not sure what good it would be on a night ferry with a bar).
I may go. Is it difficult to get to the ferry port from Glasgow or Edinburgh? What about from Stranraer (using public transport).
Could any Scottish NOOLers drop me a line if they know details, or post up here.

I looked at this yesterday and decided not to bother given that the ferry takes about 12 fucking hours, and I could have driven down to Glasgow to see the man only a week or so ago. However, if there's a serious exodus of NOOL-ers, I've never been to Shetland before, so.....

Bollocks would I travel to see this, but it does sound rather bizarre, eh? Who else has ever played the Shetland Islands? Didn't the Mission do a mini-tour way back, and the Chameleons did a one-off gig a couple of years back. When is this anyways?
The Primitives played the Shetlands also if my memory serves me well. Never been but went to Orkney as a nipper which was ace! Got an uncle from there. Surprised at how cheap the flight is. I had a pal who flew up there a couple of years ago on business and the flight from Glasgow cost over 400 quid!

The Bunnymen played Lerwick as part of their 1983 tour, and also did several Hebridean Islands. Strange tour, they did their own roadying and supported themselves. Some great gigs though, and some great recordings.
I just like the bizarreness of it all. I proberbally wouldnt go to see hooky in belfast, but the shetlands sound interesting

Fuck that for a laugh, Shetlands. Where did the info come from that Hooky was playing there? Still, if it does happen, I hope it's half as good as the night we had in Glasgow

I don't know, but I'd imagine that the Shetlands are normally pretty quite, so I'd guess the locals go apeshit when something interesting happens!!
The long-lost (and probably best-lost) Thousand Yard Stare played the Shetlands in the early-90s: hardly anyone does it (for obvious reasons), so bands always get masses of press coverage for doing it (or at least they used to when there were 3 inkies & Record Mirror). I struggle to believe that it was EVER financially worthwhile. Didn't the Bunnymen tour get a stack of press, Tim???

anyway , ... just checked the Shetland times website , the only thing they got listed for 11/12/04 is the Yell-xmas party at the Westsandswick Hall , possible four to the floor sheepdance versus the mighty Hook ? the good folk of lerwick must be agonising over the choices . If you stick around to the 15th the hall has a whist drive , London on the 11th is already sorted , but ; I must admit I'm bloody tempted in a Bill Drummond way , very curious and very different for sure
Think Pulp played there a quite a while ago. Went I was up there a couple of year's ago there was a 'Madchester' night, so they must be into it up there!
Wouldn't go all that way for Hooky though!

This is seriously tempting, in a perverse sort of way. Wasn't arsed to see him put CDs on in London, but because it is such an unlikely setting it has more appeal.
This is tempting just because its insane. The nearest Ireland has to this is people playing Arranmore (where I'm from, island 3 miles off the coast), and at that they're never very famous, although IIRC U2 did it in the early 1990's. I probably wouldn't bother going to see Hooky play in Cork, or even South Dublin... but the Shetlands, thats just too weird.
Have to see if I'm busy or not. Date seems a bit dodgy, think I'm working...

Do it. No matter how insane it seems. I managed to get from Dublin to Cardiff to Dublin in 30 hours, watching Brighton beat Bristol in the process and still get back in time for a physics exam. Even though it involved 6 hours on a train station platform being insulted by Bristol fans for having a Tricolour on me...
