I'm sure it's been discussed before but now that I've actually heard it, can we go again? I don't think I'll be playing this much while wor lass is at home.Is he a genius or is this a collection of the digital equivalent of the cutting room floor welded to some drum and bass and then speeded up and interspersed with some odds and sods?

Interesting, but unlistenable. Check out the collected ambient works for his best stuff.

I've got both them and 'Surfing on sine wavs as well' and find Volume II unlistanable,I'm not convinced this new one is great but as you say it is interesting mostly.

Do you mean Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2 is unlistenable or is there a Vol. 2 of Surfing...? Personally, the 2nd Ambient Works CD is pure bliss. So much emotion wrung from so few sounds. Aphex did a good job on St. Etienne, perhaps he should give New Order a face-lift. By the way, a short documentary about Cornwall was on PBS (public television) last night. The southern part of England is beautiful. I've been as far as Torquay but next time i return, i have to pay a visit to Lands End and Dartmoor?

I can see I'm gonna have to dig it out again but yes Vol II is unlistenable, I don't even know what speed to play it on, any advice?

Wait until nightfall, set phono speed to 33rpm, light spliff, lay back......enjoy. Selected Ambient Works Volume 2 will go down in history as one of the best (if not the best) electronic albums ever. This collection of songs will rival anything Satie did come 2050. Sure we'll be dead, but our grandkids will know we had the original pressing!

"Girl/boy song" is one of my favourite track ever. I never heard such a brilliant mix of classical and electronic music. It makes me smile everytime I am listening to it.

I'm not much of a one for drugs and hate smoking, so spliffs are out,but I have it on now, 33rpm you say.

Girl/boy song isn't on it,ariel shot of radiator internals is though.

aphex is hit and miss. boy/girl song is amazing as are about 40% of each album. it's not a good ratio but the quality of the good ones out weighs the badness of the bad...duh...me talk pretty one day...vicious streak is the closest New Order get to making a musical moment as transcending as ceremony/egg in years. They need to explore that route and the energy/emotion of Primitive Notion and leave the stadium rock (regret, crystal, 60Mph) to U2.

The lush atmosphere of AWV2 will provide all the stimulation you need. Girl/boy song is on another album and my post was in reference to the one above, not Vol 2. My cd's don't list the songs, only symbols of songs but other versions might list track titles. I have the vinyl somewhere but digging it out now would be fruitless as it's scratched to bits and i don't believe the tracks are listed there either because i've never known the names of the songs. Let me know if you enjoy listening to it this time. It scares my girlfriend but i think that proves the power and emotion captured on the recording.

I'm stil only half way through side 1 of disc 2 are you sure that 33rpm is the right speed? It would be nice if a melody came a long every 5 minutes or so.

I just came across a track that seems to confirm the 33rpm theory it had a bass line and drums,a bit of a novelty.

I dont remember any PC&L samples on that disc Ian.

you seem to be bored by ambient music. it is best listened to horizontal. You keep having to flip over the vinyl and I can see that being boring. i usually put on disc 2 followed by disc 1 and wake-up 3hrs later, dazed and hungry. must be the spliff.

I was a big enough fan of vol I to buy vol II but there where drums and meldoies on most of that one.right,I'm at about the end of the second to last track i'd say I enjoyed about 10% of it,so that's more than I'd remembered last time I dug it out, there are some lush sounds the odd one sounds like a song and a lot of moody cinematic pieces with monotonous notes played over and over with a bit of a sample thrown on top every five minutes or so.Is it the drugs Geoggers?
