since when are you fan of new order ?

are you a very big fan since the beggining of joy division or have you juste discovered with "republic"or "get ready"?

me,i'm just 18,so I have to admit that I've discovered the band only whit get ready,but I became a very big fan the first time that I heard blue monday and now I prefer largely the 80's album of the band.my favourite must be low life.

I first heard Joy Division in early February 1979 on the Peel session, and at the time was expanding my musical horizons, so became a fan just like that. After Ian died I didn't really keep my finger on the pulse for a few months, but found out about some of the early New Order gigs and heard Ceremony, and the rest was history. I gave up in mid-1989, which had much to do with being unable to reconcile listening to a band with an almost proud drug involvement with the loss of a close friend to drug abuse. I bought Republic when it came out, but didn't bother with going to gigs, live recordings etc again until 2001, and only then on a whim. After discovering this site I rekindled some of my old passion, though these days they aren't the be-all and end-all of even my musical life.

I'm in my mid-twenties, but I was lucky to have an older brother who was a fan of the 'Substance' compilation. I remember Channel 4's American Football programme using a verse & chorus of 'Shellshock' during the final credits in November 1987, which worked very well.

I remember hearing LWTUA on pirate radios in Dublin in 1980, & I loved it , but I was a bit too young to get into it at that stage. I got into NO in 1982/83 with Temptation & Blue Monday & i've never looked back!

I'm not a fan, I'm here to research to my PhD in antropology on how can people waste their lives in internet.

You will also find me at Depeche Mode's forum, as at PSB's, Human League's and other New Order-like bands forums. With different nicks, of course.

Since hearing True Faith 94 but I never realised who it was. It was one of my favourite songs but I never had a copy of it and in the days before the internet it was hard to find out.

I started listening to New Order in about 2000 but its only the last couple of years I have really got into the scene.

My very first vinyl record was New Order's True Faith 87, I bought this when I was 18 when I bought my first proper HIFI turntable.

So are you a really a Cliff Richard fan in disguise? Or perhaps a bit of the Bee Gee's? You Win Again sounds very slightly New Order esque.

Been a fan as long as i can remember. Used to go to school with JD/NO graffiti all over my bag/books while everybody else seemed to like Duran Duran,Kids from Fame & Culture Club? Losers!!!

1980. Seems so damn long ago, considering its before I was born. Those were the halcyon days of Irish pirate radio though, most of the stations until 89 WERE pirates

Fan since Get Ready, basically. Explained this too many times before, but its complex and involves True Faith, Blue Monday, WIFM, Regret and a sports store advert..

Fan since Joy Division days thanks to an older cousin who thought I needed 'hip'ing up and used to send my tapes of assorted bands, incl JD. I wasn't sure of the continuation of JD into New Order but was hooked in on hearing their Ceremony.

First new order gig I went to, I didn't get into as my pleas of 'I'm 18' in a high pitched un-broken voice were quite rightly dismissed. 'Go home back to bed sonny' the man at the door uttered.

Since the start, my first New Order gig was at Glastonbury 1981, though to be honest I was waiting for Hawkwind

Heard JD late 79, been a NO fan since the beginning.

I loved Blue Monday, True Faith and Love Will Tear Us Apart as I grew up in the 80s... never really a 'fan' though until my uncle got Technique, and played it to death in the car I bought Technique during my mid-90s 'retro-dance' era and then Republic after hearing World (Perfecto Mix) on a compilation album. Hooked ever since!!

me? i wandered into slipped disc record store in chorley lancs uk and saw the transmission 7" sleeve on display. liked it and asked to hear it,the girl behind the counter thought it was on 33 instead of 45 (thats the speed of rotation for the younger posters) oh how i laffed. the rest is history,been a fan since 79 i guess. top band then and now

First heard of them when Confusion was released but didn't really "Into them" until 87 with the release of SUBSTANCE, NO & JD...respectively.

Never been as sane since...

Ever since I saw the video to TPK on the old Music Box channel that was on cable in the 80's.

85 for me,fourth year at high school and the drama teacher used to make us warm up to music before the lesson started,she started to play subculture every week and that was me hooked,cheers mrs gardener!first time i saw em was birmingham nec'89

After Kylie improved BM , I checked out their other stuff , Shuglet then sent me the WIM remixes he'd done and I was hooked

You freak! I did exactly the same with Bright Lights Big City. In my more insane moments I also bought Substance on vinyl and CD and PCL on vinyl, then CD then US CD as it included Blue Monday / The BEach. I think I have about 7 different BLT records. I'm much more sane now.

I think i must be the saddest person on here, as it was the BBC series "Making Out" that started for me. I loved the theme tune (which turned out to be "Vanishing Point") and just had to find something of New Order's. Went to Woolies in Ashton-u-Lyne, found Technique, and loved them since (although I'm not too sure of Get Ready).

Was aware of JD thru Peel in '79 and '80, and liked the music, but I can't honestly say I was massively into them. However, I do clearly recall the moment that changed my musical taste forever - 6th form common room at school, March or April 1981, the bloke in charge of the record player got out a gold-sleeved 7" single, put the disc on the turntable and....Whaaam! The opening bars of Ceremony were all it took and 23 years later it still does it for me. Amazingly (or perhaps not so amazingly), I have never had a family member, friend or colleague who has really been into NO. That's why I like NOOL so much! :)
