I haven't been (not even dating anybody) but I thought this might be a good topic to discuss, seeing as winter will be upon us shortly and heartbreak seems to go hand in hand with cold weather. so here's another little list to discuss: 1.Love Will Tear Us Apart (duh!) 2.Atmosphere 3.Most of Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde album, but especially One of Us Must Know (Sooner Or Later), Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands, and Just Like A Woman 4.Wrong Girl (Belle and Sebastian) 5.A Promise (Echo and the Bunnymen) 6.A Night Like This (the Cure) 7.Norwegian Wood (Beatles) 8.Jealous Guy (John Lennon) 9.Fake Plastic Trees or Creep (Radiohead) 10.No Fun (Stooges) 11.Pale Blue Eyes (VU) 12.Plea for Tenderness (Jonathan Richman) 13.Pictures of You (Cure again) 14.Lonesome Tonight (NO)

Well i'm not dumped, more like kinda divorced/split up, and now i can fully agree with the lyrics "i've seen what a man can do, and i've seen all the hate of a woman too" CHRIS ISAAK- BLUE HOTEL is very suitable as well.

Wedding Present - Spangle

Absolute gem...

I'm going to go with Regret. The opening line very accurately describes my experience with the opposite sex, and with many people I've known in general.

I split up from a blokie 2 years ago and listened non-stop to Mel C's "Goin' Down". I dont even like Mel C, but the words were strangely apt.... "From one little hitch, i have become a super bitch" "I'm singing it loud....coz i dont care"

Nowt like screaming along with a former Spice girl to make you feel better about yourself...

What about the Smiths' "Unhappy Birthday"?

"'cause you're evil and you lie and if you should die, I may feel slightly sad but I won't cry. . ."

If you're looking for gloom, what about the album Laid by James? just skip "Lester Piggott" and "Laid" . or even Joy Division's Closer

i actually made a tape for this very purpose (that and unrequeited love) the tracks on it include; spiritualized - broken heart, smokey robinson - tracks of my tears, history - the verve, bulletproof - radiohead, i just dont know what to do with myself - dusty springfield, "as time goes by" from casablanca..among others, which i cant remember (cos i haven`t had need to play it a while, thankfully) and speaking of being dumped and mr bob dylan; i once got dumped via the means of a dylan song,"it aint me babe". cruel bastard.

Well, having just completed a very satisfactory dump (and only three days from Christmas - she wasn't happy as she'd already got my present :p), she rang me up last night, pissed and wanting to talk to me. That very mantra listed above came into my head.

The perfect song is Saint Etienne's "Who Do You Think You Are" (to be played when she rings you up afterwards and spoils your day).

Alot of the stuff by Everything But The Girl helps in that mood, most of their work from Amplified Heart to Tempramental goes through the pains of unrequited love and stuff like that!

That Ben Folds Five song called "Song for the Dumped" I think, is a good one.

"Give me my money back, Give me my money back, You Bitch!

I want my money back, And don't forget, To give me back my black T-Shirt!"

In the sixth grade, a girl who had liked me had the local AM radio DJ dedicate "Sail On" by the Commodores to me to announce our "break up!" I didn't even know we were a couple.

God, I'd forgotten that...I dare any of you to top that story. I await your tales of woe.

Isn't there a Motley Crue song, "Don't Go Away Mad, Girl (Just Go Away)"

And if we're revealing sordid little secrets. . . Despite my international fame as a swinger and general appreciator of the lovely ladies, when I was in fifth grade I wrote a note to this girl (name withheld to protect the guilty, I hope she can sleep at night!!) asking her to "go" with me (the proper terminology of the time). She read the note, showed it to her friends, and laughed. Needless to say, I was horribly embarassed and thus my career as a fairer sex aficionado was delayed by several years of shame, intense psychotherapy, and various medications. She was kinda cute but I think a big perk of dating her would have been her well-developed mammary glands, especially for being ten or eleven years old. I can't believe i was thinking about that at that age. I wouldn't have even known what to do with them!

Funny how the same things have a universal appeal......

Aaaah, Smokey Robinson....in fact, loads of Motown stuff would do in this situation. 'This Old Heart of Mine' by The Isley Brothers is one that springs to mind. :)

Well I ain't gonna even tempt fate by listing my "faves" as, fortunately, my girl has stuck with me thru thick and thin for nearly 8 years now, and, for want of anything else, I'm most happy to leave it just the way it is.... so no sad "laments" from me, just yet......
