Blue Monday - should it have been called The Beach

I have an original release of Blue Monday 12", but the labels are reversed, the beach label being on the Blue Monday side. Someone once told me this was an error made during production which only become noticed after it was released for sales and became known as Blue Monday, so production was changed to make the labels reflect what we know now. As the original sleeve contains no words to identify it (how many other bands would have used a computer disk as a sleeve model), could this be true?

No, it's not true. Nor is it likely to be true...

Surf over to the New Order Discography and click your way to Singles/Blue Monday and enjoy. The easiest way to check your vinyl is to look at the groove notation, i.e., the etched writings in the very inner part of the vinyl. For Blue Monday, the Blue Monday side, it should say "FAC73A", meaning the A-side, and for The Beach "FAC73B". You will also, probably, see some cryptic text... :)

Misplaced labels is not anyhing new. Your story sounds like someone at the pressing plant trying to cover their own mistake.

Now, if your groove notation says "FAC73A" but clearly plays The Beach, then it's a different story and you have a pretty collectible item...

There is one very interesting Blue Monday-related mispress, and it's the Love Will Tear Us Apart 12" from Joy Division that has LWTUA on one side and Blue Monday on the other side. It's not an item that is easily found...
