What I mean by this is have New order redo songs like

Love will tear us apart Tansmission She's Slost control Shadowplay

and so on.

I say good idea, New order shouldn't forget what brought them to music. I saw a video of New order singing LWTUA and they were solid.

Maybe one song like as a B-side or something...but for me the last 98 Peel Session, 316 and 511 suffice for me!! :thumb:

Since Joy Division was kind of a subtle group when it came to their impact (subtle albeit relevant) the best way to give an official tribute would be to do something subtle like cover one of their songs, and not an array of favorite singles.

I would even reccomend not covering something like Love Will Tear Us Apart or Transmission. Maybe Insight, Wilderness, or songs a bit less known today would be good choices.

Not that they are gonna do it. Still

hmmm...all I have to say is....NO...

Don't wanna hear it...but that's just MY opinion...

Too much potential for disaster

So you guys are saying let some sucker punk band do a tribute album and see if they make it :confused2:

New material. However, they could dig up an obscur tune or two per gig or B-side. No Love Lost, Novelty, Shadowplay.

why on earth would they want to do a jd tribute album, surley the music they created is tribute enough. id rather see a new order tribute album, something along the lines of getting other bands to pick their fave new order track and having a go at it. now that would be interesting. kylie doing ysf? "could you imagine it":evil4:

Joy Division songs generally wouldn't sound right with Bernard Sumner singing on them... so no :nono: With the exception of the more upbeat tunes e.g. Isolation, Love Will Tear Us Apart

me says NO

no explanation necessary

the last thing i want is NO to become their own tribute band, like The Doors or many others. i find that pathetic. the same line of thinking about ANOTHER version of Blue Monday and such. i think they have talent enough to don´t have to do that.

Interesting idea. I don't think they'd do it though. They've already redone half of those songs in live concerts; I'm not sure if they've done "She's Lost Control" or "Shadowplay" (one of my all-time JD faves!). It'd probably just be superfluous to do. I like hearing NO do JD songs live, but... they still sound so different and of course, anachronistic. Hearing Bernard sing some of the JD songs just doesn't sound right sometimes. Although in LWTUA and "Atmosphere" he does a fine job. I think I'd just prefer them to mostly play NO songs and focus on the new studio stuff.

I fully aggree with you. A few songs during their live performances is OK (especially if they don't limit themselves to the standard LWTUA, Atmosphere and Transmission). But I wouldn't see the point in re-recording JD stuff and release it as an album.

Yeah like i said too much potential for disaster. Joy Division's songs are close to perfect and are about more than just mere music and lyrics--they are about a time and a place and a feel totally different to where New Order now. Limit it to the odd song (carefully chosen) when playing live; its not about forgetting Joy Division but about respecting the music enough not to tinker with it 25 years after the event.

It would be interesting if they do something like they did those Peel sessions but with 12 or more only JD tracks, to fit on one CD/DVD. They should pick their favourite tracks to play. Not a proper studio album, but it would be definitely a good disc to listen...

and the thing is, it not nessessarily right now. I definately want new material. But soemwhere down the road like 10 or 20 years be ideal.

No thanks.

I prefer to have all new material on new releases.

JD songs are fine in past/future live sets & the sessions disc but that should be the end of it.

So you guys are basically saying, let New order forget who brought them to music in the first place?

If Ian did not die, there would be no New Order, and Joy Division would be a faded memory.

I tend to agree with the muse of the forum...Bernard would not do JD justice. NO has so much talent that they need to keep ontrack with that and leave covers/tributes to others.

Interpol is doing a great job (my thoughts) with tribute to JD & NO for that matter. The best way to compliment is to copy...and Interpol has great material to boot!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!

Jesus i sound like Ian Paisley.

For all the reasons stated above. I dont even think they should play JD songs live. Bernard just butchers them!

Barney does not always butcher them. He does a great job with transmission and LWTUA and Atmosphere (if he leaves the whoops out). They do have the right to do whatever they like, after all JD songs are their songs. maybe spice up each gig with a different JD song to keep the fans and the bootleggers happy and Ian's memory live.

Where the fuck has anyone said that mate? If anything they should leave the songs alone in the studio out of respect.

Its impossible to type Paisleys NO out. Its a bit like

NNOOOOH!

Only angrier.

But anyway, I don't want to hear NO doing JD tracks.

No.I like them playing a few live, but think they should leave Joy Division how it is-a short, but incredible part of their career. Look at Ronan Keating,he`s put out a greatest hits album of which half the tracks are his reworkings of his Boyzone hits, and i personally think its pathetic. The JD are legends, and its only right they stay that way.

Twist, i politefully disagree.

Bernard destroys atmosphere. He just cant pull it off and just mumbles it. It sounds awful, IMHO.

As for trasmission, its my favourite song of all time. Bernard does a passable version, thats all.

Wouldnt it be nice, hot summers evening, sun setting, and rather than ploughing throgh she's lost control, having a nice version of round and round, vanishing point, sooner than you think, a non fooked up version of special...

if they stooped to this it would REALLY be the end! :nonono:

If barney is so talented, why do you say he would butcher New order by doing a tribute? And for the folks who never had an oportunity to see them live, will never see a Joy Division song in concert. So a tribute be good for who never had an chance to hear a JD song live. Barney is so talented that they are gold no matter what they do, from Electonic to Monaco to whatever.

I think most people are happy with the occasional Joy Division song played live by New Order. Your poll is asking if we want New Order to do a Joy Division tribute album. My vote is no.

My two penn'orth on the subject......they are the same band, just minus the singer. Why would they want to pay tribute to themselves? They have already recorded four JD songs with Bernard singing for BBC sessions, Atmosphere, Heart and Soul, Isolation and Transmission. As they themselves have said, they sat down and questioned their self-imposed embargo on JD stuff from the live set, figuring as it was they who had written the songs, why shouldn't they play them? Sure, some JD stuff doesn't sit as easily in the set when sung by Bernard, but we can pretty much be sure they'll only ever do the most popular (and synth-friendly ones). Digital was only done because of its prominence in 24 Hour Party People, as was She's Lost Control.

I cannot see why they would even consider for one minute spending their own or even a record company's money re-recording old JD stuff with Bernard singing. At least the BBC Sessions were live takes done in only a few hours. Let's face it guys, it ain't gonna happen and there is absolutely no need for it to happen in the first place.

Absolutely. Just how far up their own arses would they have to be to record a "tribute" to themselves. It sounds like something out of Spinal fucking Tap.:nonono:
