I have an mp3 here with a different version of Super Highways. It's 04:55 and without backing vocals, very different from the 04:30 single version or the 05:04 album version. Was it released in any form? It's not on worldinmotion.net discography.
Different version of Super Highways?

I believe I have that as a bonus track on my limited ed. of the Japanese release [of the LP] I purchase back when I lived there. Different cover art too for the LP and single.
It sounds like an edited version of the Super highways (Andy Votel mix), which was available on the Super highways CD single here in the UK. The version I have is 5:40 so perhaps the version you have is faded out or something. It's not a very good mix IMO, a bit throwaway, I think Votel tried to make it ambient and failed miserably. I have four versions of Super highways:
- Super highways (Tape premix - Different drumming)
- Super highways (Album version)
- Super highways (Single mix - same as Album version minus intro bass)
- Super highways (Andy Votel mix - not wonderful)
I've said before, while I think Super highways is not the most memorable of albums (it does contain some great tracks though) it WAS hugely undervalued by London records and they didn't even *try* to market the damn thing. I bought it as it came out and I really had to hunt for the CD single as it was released as a full £4.99 release (3 tracks), plus the album was £17 on release. What on *earth* were they thinking?? Plus the whole farce of pressing multiple copies of the You Can Fly CD single then simply not releasing it at all makes even less sense than scrapping the single BEFORE it was pressed
I just can't believe Steve and Gillian did not want their new album that they had spent months writing and producing released in a proper way that would of maximised it's exposure.
Oh well, Ally.

I think your stereo's fucked mate. You've got different versions of everything!
Hi Ally! Well, I'm sure it´s not the Andy Votel Mix, I know it. It is similar to the album version, but a little bit rougher. It has all the lyrics, just not having the backing vocals. I think it was available years ago on N21's site The Pop Group With a Dark Past. But I don't know where was this version taken from. I kinda like it more than the final version on Super Highways.
And what a great site that one was, like it was your Monaco site, too...
And no, my stereo is OK.![]()

Yeah I guess it was the Andy Votel mix...

Hey Ally, does this "Tape premix - Different drumming" have backing vocals on it? How does it sound? You probably have the file I'm talking about, since you were around those days - when your site and N21's were the best sites related to New Order. Good old days! ![]()
