Ok, possibly claiming a stake for one of the most bizzare NO related threads...

watching 316 and then listening to Bruvvahood last nite got me thinking...

Ok we all know that Barney yelps and cries his way thru most live songs but how many actual studio recordings immortalise that famous yelp or carry that incomparable "whoop!" ?

I'll get the ball rolling, as Bruvvahood has some quite good examples.

Hmm, I think the original studio version of Temptation features one or two, though mostly just "whoo"s

I think you'll find that EGG has about six of 'em !

I'll have to listen to that again before I can confirm or deny that (not gonna count, just see if he does whoop or yelp a lot)

PS I know I said I'd give the Eternal Lyceum a listen last night but I completely forgot. I'll try and give it a full and undivided listen and get back to the people who said it's great on Wednsday.

Best version of The Eternal was on the London ULU 8/Feb/80 tape. The Plan K version is OK as well.

I feel rather pathetic asking people this, but I am one of the apparently rare people who has never EVER seen a bootleg in a store (except for a couple by Bob Dylan, and I'm not really into Dylan at all), so maybe people can try to relate to my circumstances... Have you (PL and everybody)ever thought of putting your bootleg material into MP3 form and sharing it on Audiogalaxy? I know you paid dollars for this in the store, but I say "what goes around comes around"... I have some Joy Division rarities (which I got free over the web), and I share them with anyone who asks.. I guess this is just a thought... Feel free to ignore it...

Speaking of live recordings, though, I was listening to that 1981 Glastonbury gig - the performance is hands down incredible, except for the absurd whoops which mar Procession and Everything's Gone Green, and possibly also The Him and Denial (I can't remember at the moment)..

I almost consider doing some sound editing to remove the whoops (if only that were possible). It's just horrible. I wish he could've restrained himself...

I agree about the whoops ruining some live performances. Atmosphere with whoops will ALWAYS make me cringe. The subdued whoos on Subculture are kinda cool but to fuck up a slow song with whoops is criminal. Barney gets a yellow card. No more Whoops you fat bastard (at least during the slow songs).

There's an umph in The Perfect Kiss just before the second chorus. Interestingly (?) on the version on BBC Live in concert it is just before the FIRST chorus!!
