New Album: Silence is Deafening

I smell a conspiracy.

We know for a fact that at least one NOOLer was at the WFTSC album preview in London yesterday and there were numerous friends/associates of NOOLers present also. We also know that there's at least one NOOLer who either has - or is close to securing - an album promo.

We know too that one of the NOOLers present will be attending the London Order convention tonight at The Slug, swanning around in his new claret scarf and grinning like Mike Skinner's Cheshire cat.

So what's with the cone of silence regarding whether the album's any bloody good or not? What of tour news? Have Warners got you by the cruets - sworn to secrecy - or are you waiting to trade news over the suds tonight?

I'd have thought JG in particular would've been busting his ass to break the news to the board.

More likely an agreement with Jayne Houghton as condition of entry to the playback.

He mailed his thoughts to Jayne Houghton, but didn't 'review' the album, per se, and Jayne came back to him saying he might as well review the album too, cos the stuff about Ana Matronic, etc, is all over the net. So he's got to type all this up now, bless!! You're right though, lad needs a rocket up his backside.

Couple of 'interesting' titbits about gigs came out of the playback, rest is coming from a different source though ... no surpises who.

Said review better be accompanied by a picture of a burgundy scarf, or I'll be wanting my money back.

My bro does the IT for Ministry Of Sound, but has singularly failed to come up with a single contact at WEA. Honestly, you can't get the staff...

They're supposedly still finalising the running order and track titles and the promos will be unleashed in a fortnight or so. Then it'll be all over Soulseek.

So Al... While JG's pecking away at his keyboard, can you at least tell us whether he's favourably disposed towards the end product? Without stealing his thunder, of course.

Be good to hear something concrete from someone we know... and trust. Mostly.

Yeah, he sent me a text around 5pm on Tuesday just saying, I think it was, 'album is class' so I of course belled him straight back and he was just wandering back to his office after being sat in the company of Warner's bozos all afternoon. Think he said the best track had a chorus of 'Hey, Joe' or summat, and it isn't one of the singles. That's as much as I remember of the album, per se. There was a couple of gig announcements, but again I think he's running these past Jayne to see whether he can mention 'em!

How come P2Ps like Soulseek and WINMX havent been shut down yet ?.I do actually use both but if its a band i support i will always buy the actual CD if its good.It sometimes surprises me when i connect to Soulseek and it`s still not been shut down:D

Conspiracy theory of the day...

Given the lack of "chatter" on these boards about the new album...it may be that there is a subset of people on these boards that are already circulating a promo amongst themselves but ...I could be wrong...but then again why not have a little controversy now and again :evil4:

Actually there is 2 people from NOOL that went to the playback.

The guy that writes in teletext is one, he's just not posting... ;)

What I had more that it has been said already is this:

Krafty (track 4 of 11) is first single out on March 7, not 14. Album still March 28. It doesn't feature the word "crafty" in the lyrics at all.

Sirens (track 3) will be second single to coincide with summer festival appearances.

Jetstream (track 8) is third single towards the end of the year. It features the only guest musician, Scissor Sisters singer Ana Matronic, as backing singer. All other backing vocals are by Dawn Zee.

It's called Krafty, cos it's a little bit Kraftwerk-y. Allegedly.

Whether that's old Kraftwerk - catchy melodies and decent drums - or new Kraftwerk - soaring soundscapes and booming bass - then I really don't know.

I heard about half of it - I don't have a promo yet. Can't comment much, other than I think they've definitely raised their game. Good beats, more agile than Get Ready. I will probably hear the rest tonite.

It does occur to me that there seems to be more forethought going into the single releases and promotion of the new album. Having three declared singles and timing them would suggest that they are thinking this one through. Conjecture as to why this would be could include:

  1. Other bands like the Cure and Erasure have proved the profitability of promoting groups that they percieve to be primarily "80's" based. Not my opinion...just trying to think like a record exec or marketing person.

  2. The content of the album is strong. We saw what happened with RTP and TT...no promotion and to be honest neither record was very commercially viable. I do think that GR was an extension in some ways of the sound of TT and maybe the record company had a listen and thought that outside of Crystal that there wasn't much they could do with the rest of the record. Elecronic, Technique and Republic (quality questions aside on republic) were both much more radio friendly than TT, GR or RTP. Anyway the record comany certainly seems to think that this has a chance to sell...not sure if this has anything to do with the whole London Vs. Warner issue.

  3. The band themselves have decided to promote the record...hopefully by touring. This is a longshot but I would guess that the record company would put more promotion $$ behind an album that the band was planning to support.

A New NEW ORDER album is like XMAS for a child. If you believe in SANTA then it will be worth waiting for!Just wrote off for a PROMO(MINTY MINT) and a SCARF(large) and another HOOKY Pot Noodle(empty).I am sure of getting one of these by the end of the week.Only heard a bit of GOSSIP(not very HOT) and some good theories.A crazy one about a certain NOOL'er buying a round. And I have given up drink and drugs until the TOUR so i will almost be human when my fellow NOOL's meet me.Hope there is NEW badge AL!
