Okay, so I'd 'try' and get a ticket, but what a shite choice for a Festival this summer, if it goes ahead. People attend for the 'event' these days, and the muzak is secondary. It's in the middle of nowhere and it's nigh on impossible to get into. And I hate cunts called Tarquin 'slumming it' for the weekend in mummy's camper-van.

Do we really want New Order to play Glastonbury?

Absolutely: 10 years ago it'd have been fine, but today barely any of us would get tickets and the Order would be wasted on the Jeremys and Jemimas of this world.
It'd be nice to think that the band and their management would put the fans first and avoid Glastonbury like the plague. It's an undignified and deeply undemocratic festival these days, and I'm too old for that camping shit.
I'll buy a ticket if it happens and they shaft the hardcore by playing somewhere we can't readily get to, but fucked if I'm camping. Can always flog the ticket to a student on E-bay for several week's grant money. Will be pulling out all the stops to get some roadie work or some other way in though if needs be!

Not a hope in hell of getting a ticket though, it was bad enough last year according to Mike and Liam. There's no way I am gonna be on a phoneline for 23 hours (like Mike)
So the chance of having a proper "hardcore" group of fans down the front is zero.
Reading, V, T in the Park would be a lot better. Hopefully someone is on the case.

Last I read they were going to put microchips in the tickets this year to make each one unique and usable only by the individual purchasing it - precisely to avoid the ebay fleecing that's gone on over the last few years....

Agree with the Doc man. I've done my stint in a tent. I couldn't see the bands management listening to the fans though.
In fairness to them, it does get 'em MASSIVE exposure, what with every burp and fart being televised nowadays. It's still bollocks to the average punter, mind. Course, I'd fucking go, if I could.

Id be up for some euro gigs, were they to play Sonar in Barcelona, id be there. Glastonbury seems like a load of old cac at this stage, although I know a lad who was there last summer, and is still wearing his wristband.

Yeah that's what i was saying. Would consider paying for the whole weekend but only going for one day.
I personally would like them to... but:
It would be just like morrissey last year. The NME seem to by hyping this album up, so that means a high profile slot on the pyramid stage, probably in front of 50000 people waiting for headline band X, maybe Jean Michel Jarre, who has apparently confirmed himself to play. This might not be too bad, but they could be playing in front of a young headline band, who are there for the kids, like outkast (if kylie doesnt play) and that means playing in front of so many thousand people waiting for outkast. So all these kids would know the intro to regret, wouldnt be able to make out the mess that is blue monday live, and some might know Love Will Tear Us apart.
So band get annoyed, or more likely start taking the mick and phoning it in, and getting bad press and so on and sor forth.
Either way, I wouldn't be attending, so I don't care for that (besides, if they do play Glastonbury, it doesn't mean they wouldn't play elsewhere too, so I don't quite see what the problem is -- unless you are aiming to attend every gig New Order will ever make!).

Because of the exposure it would give them. Glastonbury is not only televised in Europe, it is now also broadcasted on specialised music television in North America, like MTV, MuchMusic or Musique Plus.
New Order needs the exposure badly.
More exposure = more sales, more tours maybe???, etc....

Maybe a few years ago, but not now. They are nearly 50 years old, they don't need to tour anywhere, so Glastonbury wouldn't have the same promotional boost for them at this stage in their careers as it would for some younger bands.

Hopefully they'll play at old trafford again, they always play best at home.

Scissor Sisters, Divine Comedy, Orbital and the rest of the time in the dance arena trying to get Blue Monday played (which it was, twice)
Glastonbury is easily the best festival.Have any of the moaners on this thread ever been? I've been to the last 3 and the only muddy one was 2004. New Order have headlined twice before so why would they now be demoted to a support slot? It's the perfect festival for them and if you don't get a ticket you haven't tried hard enough. :D
