And feel free to post if you are going in my BEHIND CLOSED DOORS thread NOT AFRAID of AMERICANS.Will be INTERESTING to see HOW MANY of you can GO and see them at last.![]()
Don't trust too much, the confirmation "press release" links HERE... ![]()
Seriously though... Coldplay and New Order at the same place... if they ever end up on the same day, it might change my plans... and I'll go sweat to death in a desert....
I just checked, 424$ CDN for the round trip, 160$ USD ticket.. and a place to stay for 3 nights (or 2, could arrive in the day)
That actually might be less expensive than going to England.... and I don't need a passport! ![]()
Internet Presale Info INTERNET PRESALE: Start: Fri, 01/21/05 03:00 PM End: Sun, 01/23/05 09:00 PM
Forgot to add this... the presale is actually OVER..
So basically, you don't know if they will be there for SURE, but I'm quite sure you can sell it back on EBay
:(
ahhh...a desert in April...couldn't be that hot...and once the sun goes down, the temps will drop fairly rapidly!!!
So...I need a tent...a sleeping bag...and a way to sneak booze in!!!
Now if they'd like to add a couple of other West Coast dates, it'll be worth the trip. The jury is out on whether an hour in 100 degree desert heat is worth it, not to mention the best part of a grand in cost!
I'm seriously looking into this. Airfare + tickets + car rental (unless you want to walk 2 hours into the desert?)
Yea might be worth it. I just want to see if any other dates should pop up.

i've been to coachella for the last four years - it's HOT. ugh!!!! the nighttime is great though, but you'll need to bring some eyedrops, otherwise your eyes will dry out. i'm going for sure though this year. cannot wait. i thought the radiohead/pixies put me at an alltime high last year, but this beats it by a landslide.

Damn, I wanted to go to the 2002 one but didn't find out about Coachella til the '03 festval. The 2nd day from last year was the most torturous concert experience I've ever had. 9 hrs standing up, baking, and absolutely smothered in the pit. At the end of that night, I said I'd only endure that again for New Order...here we go again...
At the end of that night, I said I'd only endure that again for New Order...here we go again...
Ha! That's exactly what I said. Who knew? Still I hope there is an official confirmation since I've never heard of this ambitious outsiders website...
Nick, can you inquire Warner or NO's management for the confirmation of apperarance at Coachella?
I will probably end up going especially if some NOOL'ers are going, but if there is a NO tour date in SD or LA, I'd reconsider.

What??? It's in Southern California, you have to go!

Oh ell if it's the only date in Socal then I'm definitely going, but I would prefer something smaller. Oh hell I'll go ![]()

Damn tempting to go into debt on the credit cards for! After all, how often are we gonna get a chance to see NO in the States, even if it is in the desert.
c'mon boys... let's get an east coast gig! NYC NYC NYC!!!! Don't forget the town that launced you stateside.

Pfft the best chance for NYC to see the Order would be if they would be the opening group for U2 or Coldplay in a summer US tour.
Originally posted by His Holiness, The Pope Provided it's the closest US date they play, I'm definitely there.
Unfortunatly it's probably the only one... I hope not! You might check what Moby is doing this summer... he's launching his new album at the same time New Order does.
Oh well...
BTW, I can't confirm, you'll be 100% sure on next monday when they will reveal the line up, but it has been said int the London Playback that New Order wanted to do Coachella... so if they don't, I'd be very surprised.

Since you don't need it to go to the US... as a Canadian citizen... driver's license and birth certificate is enough.

i advise booking places in indio, calif or palm springs now if new order is certain, btw.
a lot of places get booked up fast once the line up for coachella becomes more announced. if new order is indeed 100%, do it as soon as you can.
you'll have a choice between camping there (right across from the polo grounds where the event is - i've never done that), or choosing from a number of hotels or even renting somebody's house out there for the weekend.
keep checking www.coachella.com for places to stay, what you can bring, etc. it's probably just like how glastonbury or reading does it, but the website is really nice about keeping you up to date about the important details.
it'll be really nice to know so many NOOLs will be there...
Don't get too excited yet. I wouldn't trust these guys that are saying it's "CONFIRMED". They said the same thing about Portishead and Massive Attack. They claimed to have gotten the tip from the promoter. Then the next day came out and said that it was false and that they jumped the gun. So wait until Coachella makes the official announcement on the 31st before you get all excited.
Just for the record, it's not my fault if the gig doesn't happen... ![]()
It will be confirmed this monday if it's really going on (which is a very strong thing), but we never know.
But I guess all you can buy/reserve will be easily sold via EBay if no longer needed.
Originally posted by twist What is the closest airport?
i guess ontario.
i too agree with the last few posts and spotnick's - i've never heard of ambitious outsiders until today. and it does bother me that they jumped the gun on portishead and massive attack since both bands are quite important. keep your fingers crossed, but i won't believe it until the coachella site actually says so.
You can actually fly into Palm Springs. It has an international airport that supports major airlines. But it'll probably be cheaper to fly into LAX or Ontario. Or even San Diego, it's only a 2 and a half hour drive away.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm just not hardcore enough for one show at the cost of a grand(+), even if it probably is one of the most spectacular settings they've ever played in.
Perhaps more importantly for the UK NOOL-ers, will there be a warm up date for this show??

Doesn't sound too 'confirmed' to me, especially considering Pulp split up years ago, and didn't reform for the John Peel tribute show (despite Jarvis narrating the documentary part of it)... I'd wait for official confirmation.

i know i'm splitting hairs here, but the pulp hiatus/end was never officially announced as a "split", right?
Alright, so I'm 90% there. They add Wilco and I might try to get up front. Hopefully this isn't brought brought to us by the same folks that had the "Smiths reuniting at coachella this year" rumors floating around various message boards about a month or so back.

Surely not;)

Well come on down then! We can be like hippies in the desert! Actually, it is a fun venue, I went a couple of years ago!
I am qute certain that the Order will not just be appearing at one festival, if they are coming to the States. So keep an eye out for other/cheaper/closer gigs.
Originally posted by AmnesiacSD > Hey Amnesiac, which part of SD are you in?Mission Valley. Why?
No reason. I'm in UTC and was just wondering.
Went to Coachella in 2002 and saw some great bands: Chemical Bros, Bjork, Beta Band, Groove Armada...Coachella is a great festival, actually the best I've been to. Very well organized, good facilities, lots of places selling food & water (which is important in the desert), and not too crowded so it was easy to get close to the stage. It's definitely hot during the day, but once the sun goes down, it cools off and is great. It's a beautiful setting.

I quite fancy this, 50 minutes or not. There'll be other bands worth seeing plus a couple of days in LA or San Diego. Gonna hold off booking flights until I know if they are gonna play any other gigs there or not.

Coachella would be ONE WEEK only after the album will be released in the USA, unless Krafty is released before (something we don't have yet) there and jump in the chart, they would have to tour based on their past material... which they didn't really do since 1993... (I mean they own tour)...
I have doubts. But of course, I'd love it...

It doesn't work like that though, it never has. They don't tour a new album, they play some of the newer songs in a set that is largely made up of older songs. They really don't work this US-style way of touring an album, like U2 or suchlike are doing.
I dunno, I could be wrong, but I really can't see them doing their own US Tour ever again. Sure I can see them joining Festival bills, but not a US Tour where they are the main draw (and there is absolutely no incentive to support anyone on a US Tour).
^^^^ Agree.
but I'm hoping for a secret show somewhere in the city of L.A. - hoping. maybe an El Rey Theater gig or something like that.
If they another couple of dates I'd definitely be interested, if they do, I am doing Coachella as well. The missus has been told. If my favourite bank manager is looking in, £800 should do John![]()

They've never really done a lot in LA - two Hollywood gigs in 86, Pasadena 81, Inglewood 87, Universal Amphitheater 89, and several down the road at Irvine Meadows. A pity, if they were doing a couple this time we'd be there like a shot.
They did Santa Monica once, 1985, but unfortunately we only have the first 45 minutes of the performance on tape.

I'm not up to all the costs of touring, but why couldn't they tour with one or two bands such as the Chemical Brothers. They would attract a larger crowd and generate more $$$. They did tour with Echo and Gene Loves Jezebel in 87, not sure how succesful that tour was. Or are they just tired of long tours? They did tour quite extensively for "Get Ready" though.
I wouldn't have called the Get Ready dates extensive touring, a smattering here and a couple there really. When in Australia though, they had to justify the trip!

Then why would they do only 1 show in North America? that wouldn't justify the trip, is it? ;)
What perplexes me is, why Coachella? All of their equiptment is going to fail in that heat. Watch for several exploding sequencers and maybe the autocue will backfire.

The Cure headlined day 2 last year about a month before their new album was out. They played tons of material from the new one that no one in the crowd knew, but it still rocked.

Good coin. That justifies any trip.
