New Order management, you listening? this is for you benefit. The album has been leaked right, how long do you think its gonna take to reach car boot sellers, sunday markets and these people who pass lists round in workplaces? A lot less than the nearly 2 months you plan on waiting to release the album. If you`re gonna sit on yer arse and let the album fail, stick the whole thing on a free CD re-name it 'Waiting for the sirens fall' and stick it on the front of Aprils Q Magazine.

You think that sounds bad? I havent even mentioned the internet. Just put Krafty out a week earlier than the album. Ok itll affect the singles sales, but which is more important?

But hey,you know better than me. I guess losing the first 2 months of sales isnt that important.

Just a thought.

the album is so good quality wise it will sell regardless. downloading doesn't kill record sales quite as much as the labels want you to believe. if they played Turn on rock radio stations in the US, they'd sell a million. it's not about downloading, it's about proper promotion. bigger albums get bootlegged and still sell a million why? the bands play the game. new order don't play the game quite so enthusiastically. this will sell more than Get Ready without a doubt even with out the proper support. it also doesn't help sales when the band dont want to tour. don't blame downloading for any predicted lack of sales.

remember the very day it's released it will be copied and available anywhere, if sales are so badly affected then it would only be sales on the first day or so. labels can usually sort this out with a limited edition (free dvd, fancy box etc).

absolutely right! today band's earn more money touring and doing the hard work than just producing one album in 5 years and sitting in the back chair. They may not like it, but that's the way it is.

I would assume that U2's new album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb was widely downloaded off the internet, but it has still sold a bunch a copies.

i buy way more used CD's than i do new ones. i'd rather buy a used disc than bother download one. that's more a problem than downloading to me. cost is the biggest issue. a new disc shoudn't cost more than 10 dollars.

Its interesting that none of you live in the UK and dont think there`s a problem. Im not talking about downloading-ok,thats where the bootleggers will get it,but i mean actual fakes with dodgy artwork. This is big buisness over here,i could go out today and buy the top ten selling albums for about £20-and not a penny of it goes to record companies or the artists.

Every one of these sales is a loss, its no good comparing it to U2-they have sold a shit load, but the fakers have probably sold even more! U2 are big enough to take the loss, they`ll still have a No.1 multi platinum selling album. NewOrder cant do that.

Record companies do make money off pirated copies. They earn money off the royalties built into the price of blank media.

I had Get Ready more than 2 months before its release as far as I know...

And if some people buy a copy coming from a mo3 compressed audio, they are very stupid... a copy from the promo, ok, but from a compressed 128 kbps source?

On the other hand, I don't believe it will change anything.. people buying this are the fan base, Krafty doesn't get much airplay as far as I know.

We'll all buy it... more than once for many.

New Order has an older core audience of fans who want the record, more likely to buy the physical copy i would think.

is New Order really a hot property for bootleggers? sure, no company wants bootlegged copies out there, but would this be a major problem for New Order? in the USA bootlegg copies are only mostly in poorer demographic areas... mainstream hiphop, teeny bopper stuff, latino (i've actually delivered COD packages with bootleg dvds and cds in my city, sometimes even crack dealers yell and make fun of you... its interesting :uhoh: the quality of some this stuff is atrocious, just a waste of money! )

as for downloads, I would think that the 16-24 year old demographic think of New Order as "old and retro" ...if they have heard of New Order at all, so they wouldn't buy the new album without hearing and liking some of the songs in the first place... and you can't count on radio in some countries, so mp3s are the way for them to actually hear New Order, and maybe become New order fans and buy stuff.... i think in this way mp3s helps New Order in a good way to counterbalance lost sales, mp3s can also be a promotional tool.

It seems to me from my own attitude and what I've read on here that most NO fans are a bit OCD and completist, many will probably download, buy the album on CD and vinyl and whatever other format it's available on, even buy several copies if one has a slightly different cover than another.

I think most downloaders will be potential new NO fans or bulk downloaders, and that sales will probably not take much of a hit.

As for bootleggers, anyone who buys an allegedly new CD at a car boot sale or simmilar should have more sense.

I can't see much of a market in bootleg copies, unless the album does well. The bootleggers rely on the album doing well in the first place to generate their market. Those who'll buy it on release day aren't going to want a scabby arse fake copy. Some people will undoubtedly download and then decide not to buy it, if they're not that keane or just content to play an MP3.

Whatever makes you think that?

Unless its a _limited edition_ bootleg with a subtly different font on the sleeve art.

If i've been willing to spend $25 on a bleeding Section 25 CD in the past, i'll sure as hell be willing to pay $14 or so for a new New Order release.
