IMO they sound nothing like JD and their singer sounded nothing like IC.

I knw I may take some heat for that though

They sound more like Crispy Ambulance.  "Aggresively mediocre"

Name. Check.

That's the M.O. of these new bands and the music journalists who will never pull their heads out of their asses.

I think casual listeners may not be as discerning. My brother heard Interpol for the first time when I played them in the car a few days ago. The first thing he said was, "This guy sounds like that guy from Joy Division".

Their first album sounded a smidge like JD, but antics is a bunch of indie love songs that are devoid of a JD sound. I like Interpol a lot but they are not akin to JD.

The singer sounds more like the guy from the Swans if you cut off his nuts and fed him some estrogen. More like Peter Murphy if PM was more into women.

Having seen Interpol twice, and more than willing to see them again, the LSD comparison is best. Seeing Interpol live is like a hit of good acid. During the gig you will think that they are the greatest band alive but after the show you will say to yourself, "WTF just happened??? I remember seeing and hearing them but everything is so damn blurry, all the songs used the same chord and why is my head still going up and down to the strut of that one chord?"

Maybe ROM is a better analogy.

I agree that the lead singer sounded a lot like Ian Curtis, but when they did Antics, I think he made a conscious effort to distance his vocals for IC's stylings; I was a little disappointed that he didn't stick with the same style, but Antics is a gem regardless.

My favorite Interpol song is PDA...if you are not into them, this song with get your blood flowing...It is also incredible when played lived.

I also agree about the one chord thing, but you might be getting it wrong...they tend to stick with repeatedly playing one note over and over again. It is a good style.

I am looking forward to seeing them live again.
