So, Krafty is an optimistic track which the record company chose, because optimism sells (just try telling Joy Division fans that)!

well seeing as i seem to be the only person on here that hasnt heard the whole album yet, this was my first chance to hear some tracks and....as usual with new order im not exactly bowled over by them on first hearing, but im sure they will grow on me, though im not sure ragga/rock will ever grow on me.

Am i totally wrong or are some of the songs a bit different from the promo-version? Differently mixed? Or am i just halluzinating?

See ? It's all thanks to me. They've read someone's willing to wait untill the tracks are legal, understod what a lovely bunch we are and put songs online. I should be praised and showered with flowers.

BS states that the decision concerning the next single isn't made yet. But he prefers JETstream!!!

Hell! Please choose any other track!

Maybe I start a petition to release Dracula's Castle as next single. That song's far superior than cheesy-cheesy JETstream.

Draculas Castle is the best track on the album, although why they gave it that title i do not know, should of been some more like 'true faith' or 'ruined in a day' as a title would of been a mega track all round then.

for me Turn, Told you so, and Draculas castle are the best by a long way, WFTSC is starting to sink in as a summer tune, I can imagine listening to that with the top down on my car on a hot summers day near the coast would really come into its own then, but as far as the rest of the tracks are concerned they dont really go anywhere and just wash over you, but for me Turn 9/10, Told you so 10/10 , DC 10/10 WFTSC 8/10

Now I've downloaded the RealPlayer and it isn't working.:banghead:

Who chose these tracks? Cause they're the worst four tracks on the album (IMHO).

I will give the record one listen through once it comes out in its entirety but the four tracks "showcased" on the bbc sound like the head of the nail in the coffin of this bands reputation as important artists... a band that could listen to the playback of Working Overtime and Jetstream, smile at each other and say "thats pretty good; lets release that!" is a band that I cant even recognize anymore... I will hold my serious venom for now, but as someone whose entire adult life has been marked and charmed by this music I have to say that today is a very depressing day indeed... its like when you look at someone you have known your whole life and thought that you liked, but you realize that you have absolutely nothing in common with anymore... and in fact dont even speak the same language...

And the worst thing is that its not even that much of a big deal... I just cringe at how awful this music is, curse myself for being so right about the steep trajectory of this bands decline and move onto the next thing I have to do... the worst thing is that it just doesnt even matter...

I previously wrote that 'Krafty' sounded like a mediocre Electronic song. I take that back; it grew on me and its not as bad as I thought. However I still maintain that it is the worst 1st single of an NO record. I like the cover of WFTSC. It has the look of a generic product, just like Substance. I think this is supposed to contrast with the unique/exceptional music we (hopefully) will find on the record.

If you're a fan of newOrder, then you'll be rewarded with multiple listens of the album. One time through and we were all underwhelmed but it's a "Grower" as they say. Don't expect Low-Life2 or Technique2 and you won't be disappointed.

Points for risk taking. That first one they played my acid head friends in Northern California would like and they didn't like 80's new order much.Very cool the first one steve picked there.my dad might even like that. So more points. Points for a psychedelic element.Krafty has cool lyrics. The reggea-ish thing probaly good live..cool actually...may grow on me more. jetstream...that's silly.I think Barney's throwin' piss at us again. like the female vocal. a chuckle all in all on that.. but..we'll hear it all in umm..order ..when it is released. wait a minute.----

I hate to say it but I really do like 'I Told You So'... but then again I like Ace of Base, and it is very reminiscent of some of their reggae-techno-pop tracks.

(laughing) umm I'm indeed a fan... a long time, aged, craggy fan (didnt you kids go to NO 101 where they tell you who I am?)... and I have never understood how people cant tell right from the start whether something is good or not... I have listened to promos of every NO release since Movement and in every case it was immediately evident if the record was any good or not... even listening to the teaser clips from Republic on a tinny computer speaker I could tell it was a wonderful record... but Get Ready and this new bomb have been cringefests from the word go, and how bad music could grow on someone is beyond me... some music does put on additional weight as time goes by, but I have never ever heard a record that went from horrendous to even listenable regardless of how many times you hit the repeat key...

Listening to these four tracks goes to show after reading reviews from the insiders that when you create low expectations, you can be pleasantly surprised. If these are the "worst" tracks on the album, then I'm pretty stoked, because as a hard core New Order fan, circa 1987, I've been more happy about songs on an album since Technique. Damn, I haven't even really LIKED New Order as an album band. I prefer Subtance, singles, dance remixes, and my favorite selections from each album. Did you guys hear the dance remix of WFTSC behind the interview track? That's a nodder. The much maligned rock-regga song sailed in my mind. It was experimental in every ways it should be, involved in atypicallyneworder non-grating female vocals, and Ace of Base? Run 2 sounds more like Leaving on a Jet Plane ;) What the hell was John Denver smoking? I love Krafty so much I listen to it three or four times a day (which couldn't be said of dry-mouthed Crystal). Working Overtime is New Order Vertigo-ing the Shack with better written material and production than that fan upset. Jetstream is definitely different and not my pick for single two, but if the video can show a dirty fat Hooky getting his grove on WITH his base and a two stewardesses in the hile mile room, I'd give it double douce.

Ooh I am going to like that WFTSC remix, if it is a real remix :)

ItS not a remix of WFTSC in the background its just the first 30 secs or so on repeat and the it does however go on to what is a remix of Krafty i haven`t heard but does sound quite good!!.And Working Overtime sounds better and makes more sense at the end of tha album

For what it's worth, out of the four tracks, I think they've managed to include the three worst songs on the album. They're also the three that are kind of out of sync with the overall feel of it.

All New Order fans are going to buy this album no matter what. The point, I presume, was to play the non-NO type songs, in order to snare in non-NO listeners.

What amused me was how BS pretty much said he thinks Krafty was a boneheaded single choice (though I disagree with him!) :)

After the first listen, I thought 'if this is indicative of the rest of the album it's going to be embarrassing'. Get Ready seemed like a classic. I then checked out the reviews of those people who've heard all the album and saw that WO, ITYS and Jetstream were more or less considered the worst tracks. I gave them another listen and am now looking forward to the rest of the album. WO seems a fairly average track, ITYS definitely has some 'All that she wants' thing going on - but it's catchy: 'cut loose and run away with me'. Jetstream I hated first time but listening with an open mind has made me appreciate it for what it is - a decent pop song. If these are the worst songs then I'm optimistic.

Why doesn't anybody mention that first song? I sounded kinda nice. Good bassline & drums, some synths and a catchy chorus. I couldn't really make it out, because Bernhards was singing quite low. Something like 'love will melt our hearts' or something.

Nevermind, I liked the other songs better anyway....

A J WELLS you can relax jetstream, working overtime, and i told you so are the worst trax on the album. Though I agree with you, how can they release songs like that. I agree with you 2 Andy draculas castle is one of the best songs. By the way when I look at the cover I can see the reviews like when happy mondays made yes please and they wrote NO THANKS

Just listening; besides Jetstream the other songs sound different enough from whatever has been created before to stay optimistic about the whole album. I think its great NO are unpredictable in a certain way. Curious about the rest.

Well guys, i dont know about the rest of you that havent heard the album yet, but having a chance to hear this broadcast was EXHILERATING...im sure thats the way all die hard new order fans feel upon hearing new material for the first time, but that was quite a rush. "Working Overtime" SERIOUSLY surprised me, who the hell knew they were gonna make a track like this?? lol, I really like the sound and the heavy depth of it, but, i need a bit of time to process that this is indeed new order and not some other up and coming euro rock band lol. the only track on get ready that sounds anything even remote to this is rock the shack. It will likely stand alone as new orders heaviest track ever, so it has no basis for comparison.

Well most people on here have heard Krafty at this point, so this didnt come as any sort of surprise, but my personal take on krafty is that it has seriously grown on me, and now i think it ranks up there with other new order classics. The guitar section right around the "wobbly" drum sound noise towards the end of the song is vintage new order.

"I told you so" was my favorite out of the four tracks, i think i already love this song, its fresh and full of energy.

"Jet Stream" was a bit disappointing to me, im gonna need more time to soak this one in, and get past the initial grimace when he says "J-E-T", they could have done better with this one.

This is extremely encouraging, at least to me. My ranking thus far: 1) I told you so, 2) Krafty, 3) Working Overtime, 4) Jet Stream

how do you become one of the elite who get to hear the whole album months before its release?

i feel like others who hope that there are better tracks on the album, but i do know that NO usually requires a few listens before i really like it. im just happy they are still making music since when i started liking them (1994) i thought they would never make another album.

you don't have to be elite to use soulseek. i've seen all but 1 song off the album hosted on various MP3Blogs but dare not post links to them to this site. If you want them, they are there, you just have to look and not rely on others to do the work for you.

Right, had a quick listen. And Its fair to say people here can be miserable feckers at times.

I told you so is decent enough, Working Overtime is excellent - why the bad reviews of that one? - very strange. Krafty - just can't like it I'm afraid, that phones remix is much better (ANyone who agrees with that by the way, check out his remix of Bloc Party's Banquet - song of the year IMO)

Jetstream is fine and decent - no it's hardly Joy Divison, but it's a cracking pop tune - simple as that. I can understand hardcore NO fans not liking it mind you.

Call me easy, but they are all brilliant new order. Classic combo of guitar, keys, hooks bass... yet exploring different sounds. Sounding a bit like Electronic vocals on overtime or told you so (can't remember which), anyway kind of Twisted Tenderness.

NO is a great example of true artists. A band that has a signature style, yet tweaking, experimenting.

GREAT JOB NO! can't wait for more!!!!

wish they would release those extra songs as an EP right after Sirens.

The title track arrived and if this is the best track on the record then... I dont know what to say... there is actually a lovely song inside this one somewhere... a delicate, plaintive adult popsong... but this lot cant seem to find it... in its place we have another hackneyed chorus and overblown plodding production...

Can anyone imagine what Your Silent Face would have sounded like with a chorus? Age Of Consent with a chorus? Most latter day NO songs are destroyed by their choruses... Does every song really need a chorus?

Especially when you cant write them?

Imagine this song with the initial coda repeated more and more delicately, with the initial themes developed more sensitively and fully... those two little hanging notes are lovely, but everything else is awful... so why not just have a song with the two hanging notes?

And if they thought that John Denver wanted to be paid for Run, imagine what Fab Macca will want when he realizes that Nowhere Man has been lifted so liberally... lets hope this record sells enough to pay the man...

If everyone is so gagga over Low-Life and Technique, and their die-hard fans feel like their last album was a piece of crap, then why in the hell does N.O. feel it's so necessary to recreate that which most of us want to forget? I know they must be in their 70's by now but all it has to mean is they could dish out mellow stuff like '1963' or 'Your Silent Face'. They were the forefathers of electronica but it appears their sound, which most of fell in love with, has all but disappeared.

What, are these, just 30sec snippets? Haven't got sound here at work. However, rather strange choice for the four they've chosen. I think the initial voting here for tracks on this album had Working Overtime, I Told You So and Jetsteam filling the bottom spaces alongside Dracula's Castle.

I'm actually slowly coming to terms with I Told You So. Don't think it's a class by any stretch of the imagination but halfway through it changes into Venus In Furs, then it runs out as a Mondays wah-wah song. There's a lot going on which I didn't hear first time around.

Now listening to Krafty and Jetstream, and reading the lyrics of Waiting For The Sirens Call, I think I get the idea behind Krafty cover by Peter Saville. Assuming the information we got about singles releases area right: 1st = Krafty 2nd = Jetstream 3rd = Waiting for the Sirens Call All this song has one thing in common, the references about means of transportation. On Krafty, “Sitting in a car and driving down the road…” On Jetstream, away from the title, “My plane will be arriving shortly…” Finally on Waiting for the Sirens Call, “What does this ship bring to me…” Conclusion: if Krafty has a highway with some cars on the cover, I assume that Jetstream cover will contain a sky with airplanes, and Waiting for the Sirens Call cover will include a harbor with some ships. Don’t ask me about the album cover… Am I flying to high?

(Sorry for my english) I heard the 4 songs from New Order on the BBC radio 1 and I took all the other new songs on the Internet. My opinion. 'Sirens' Call' will be an album for a larger public who like different kind of music and groups like Coldplay, The White Stripes, Kylie Minogue, The Smiths or Frank Ferdinand. It's an album for 2005 with great ballads. It's an album between the albums 'Technique' and 'Republic'. It's a good one I think and I'll buy it for sure in april. I like a lot the songs 'I told you so', 'Who's Joe' and 'Jetstream'. I'm a real fan of New Order. I can't compare the new one with the other albums but my best are Technique, Get Ready, Low-Life and Substance.

First songs I've heard, other than Krafty and if these are three of the lesser tracks then this album should be one of their best. I really like Working Overtime 8-10, reminds me of Warsaw. I Told You So is alright, nothing special 5-10. Now Jetstream for sure will be a hit, if promoted properly 9-10. It does start out slow (maybe a remix will correct this), but makes up for it with the chorus, J-E-T is very catchy and the Sissor Sisters girl does a good job singing with BS. I can't wait to hear Turn and the Title Track since these are supposed to be the better tracks from the album.

Ok a few more listens to the Siren Call title track and I do love those two hanging notes and the intro/verse vocal line despite the bad lyrics... if you killed the awful chorus you might be getting a little closer to the fragile adult pop of Yo La Tengo, who is still the only group working in this area who are aging gracefully... imagine how elegant NO would be if they were playing like YLT... as a minimal three piece with all of their frailty on show... they would be... fantastic

You have to think of the packaging as well. This looks to me like it's going to be similar to the cover of the Sigur Ros Album "()", with a sleeve over the jewel case.

I agree about losing the text at the top, but all in all I like it....I think....

i'm resisting listening to too much before it finally comes out but having listened to each track (except krafty) once i liked 'em.

i can definitely hear Electronic's 'Visit Me' in 'I Told You So'

Exactly what I thought. Even "I Told-You-So" can be sung in the place of "I-Saw-The-Sign", although they have very different melodies and chord sequences. :)

Love Working Overtime, very Lou Reed. I'm trying not to listen to Krafty anymore because the song is too catchy and is already stuck in my head. I think it has a chance of being a hit in America if it wasn't for the reference to 'violence, wars and killing too' which means those bastards Clear Channel won't play it.

I Told You So is alright, but I'm not so sure about Jetstream. The music's good but the chorus is kind of weak.

I don't understand why anyone would say New Order have lost it. I think if anything they've returned to form. Republic had horrible, thin, plastic-sounding production. Get Ready was great and this album sounds like it will be too. You can't expect them to revolutionize popular music again. They're gettin old.

for me turn is the best song on the album, that has to be released!!

ummm, i'm pretty surpised at some of the comments here. the new materials sounds very good and yes, it's a grower.

asking for them to product another technique is like asking u2 to records another achtung baby. just silly;-)

if anything, i'd describe the new tunes (i have only heard the 4 on the bbc site) as very catchy and poppy.

bring on late march i say!

Is anyone else having a problem playing the tracks on the bbc website...

For some reason I'm getting a pop up screen saying incorrect URL or something when I try and listen. I do have real player installed so it shouldn't be a problem...

I've tried a couple of other radio shows from the bbc website and am getting the same "error" message so I don't think it simply has to do with insane volume of traffic to hear the songs...

Are these four songs posted legally anywhere else (in much the same way that Krafty ended up on the Warner Japan Site as well as somewhere else)?

Thx.

I don't know about "return to form." I think they did that (to the best of their ability) with Get Ready.

I dled the new album (and WILL buy it, so no different), and after reading all the posts here I feel it's time to chime in:

New Order hasn't lost anything with this record, and it doesn't stink in any way. The music (as dance-pop) is very good, and I can tell that the production value on the cd itself is going to be excellent. The only thing that really irks me are those lyrics...they've really taken a bad turn on this record. Sure, New Order lyrics have had many sour moments in the 80s, but honestly, with the exception of "Turn" (and I'm not sure why, maybe only because I like the track that much) I found the lyrics to be downright silly. Sure, I can jam to them, but come on, if you're going to put that much skill into the music, why not put that much more into the writing?

(this is coming from a writer, so it's not ALL that negative, ok!) :D

Stephen Morris sounds like he'd be a great documentary narrarator or news anchorman. The way he introduces himself and the One World program sounds very broadcaster-like.

Also, someone mentioned that the versions of these songs sounded different on the broadcast... I think I agree. They sound somewhat more "full-bodied" and developed. Anyone else think so?

Mr. Afterthought, surely New Order are bring both salt and vinegar to the table? - sometimes you prefer a little less salt, at other times an entire lashing of vinegarette.

In other words, at what point did the rough not come with the smooth since day 1? It would be a shame to take umbridge now at the verbose.

Check back to PC&L and compare with WFTSC. I think you'll find little has changed, for the better or worse.

Tricia's reaction to 'Krafty' was:

'Well, it's VERY recognisable as New Order but it's not very good, is it?'

So far, says it all in my opinion!

Probably will grow on me...

(laughing) I love it... let me see... PCL; uncompromising, abstract experimental pop made by taking the most forward pushing sounds of the moment and misinterpreting them in a way that produced beauty which was both of the moment and timeless... sounds pretty good to me... now WFTSC; predictable paint by the numbers britpop with a little electro thrown in to please the demographic... songs are completely unspired; poorly arranged and produced... no connection whatsoever with current musical directions... everything completely predictable and dead on arrival... zero freshness or innovation... zero curiosity... zero beauty...

Mmm yep, sounds like they havent changed at all ;)

AJ, Afterthought posted that he was down with the new album because of the suspect lyrical content. I was merely suggesting that in essence, this attribute of the order hasn't altered.

'We've got, three miles to go, There's a, soldier waiting for me.' (1983)

'You've got eyes like an old wounded soldier, They cry tears to the losts in the wind'. (2005)

An arbitrary excerpt from both albums; quite similar, in fact.

Needless to say they cannot be cutting edge twice, but at either point in time, they still stand outside of most other music which is quite remarkable.

 Well it must be just me but I have been a fan for the past 20 years and i know their "new stuff" is sometimes a bit different from what has been previously released and certain people like it,and certain people don't,we are all different after all. Oh yeah,my point(if indeed I have one)for me they can't put a foot wrong ever, can't think of a crap track,,or an album I didn't like, everything has it's merits. The one thing you can definately say is that it is impossible to pidgeon hole the music or the sound, the 4 tracks previewed, great,Krafty, well one listen and that was it it,happy, upbeat, simple, made me smile anyway(and theres alrready not enough smiling going on!!) Oh yeah and as someone previously said,"every New Order fan will buy the album irrespective of any negative comments at this time. Ok hands up who's not going to buy it.......ahh one at the back...what? oh you were scratching your head. Cheers.

yah i've only heard the four, i agree that working overtime is like something from twisted tenderness, thats exactly what i thought when i heard it. krafty is not single material, maybe it would be for monaco.

I really like I told you so but then again i love sensuous stuff you can dance to. and it should be the next single just because its not too pop. if both krafty and jetsream are singles people will get the wrong impression of the whole album. im not sure where everyone here is from, but i know these songs wont stand a chance in the states.

Thank god for the interjection of the wise and trusted huntsman. Unbelievable thread- in fact it's the first time I've been moved to submit for a while. Firstly- there's a new album folks- without it you wouldn't be able to disperse your comments on the quality of the tracks. Secondly- these 4 tracks are as to be expected? Some of us will love them, others wont. Simple - but as Huntsman said- it's been like that since time immemorial- who loves all the tracks on Movement, P,C and L, Brotherhood, Republic etc? Thirdly- we all complain that the band aren't credited with enough airplay or recognition, and yet when they produce a track like Jetstream - a well-crafted pop-song with someone from Scissor sisters- some of us are up in arms. Why not the next single? It will surely sell - and bring NO to a 2005 audience. It might not be Sunrise but it has a sound that I can predict will be wafting from the high-rises in Salford. Long live the NME Godlike genii- I for one will be in the front row of every concert this year

After listening to "Working Overtime", "I Told You So" & "Jetstream" I was so dissapointed I was about to give up on New Order. To me these songs aren't just bad, they are awful.

But then I heard "Waiting for the Sirens' Call" this afternoon. What a beautiful New Order song, just as smooth as can be. Like hearing from an old friend you haven't spoken to in years. Definitely a New Order classic.:thumb:

Am I the one being refered to as "Afterthought?" Hmm, ok. Not nice. Anyway, maybe I need to clarify. Let's compare "Brotherhood" era New Order verbage:

The streets are so empty at this time of nightI'd rather walk on my own than fightIn a world where I'd forgotten youI found myself forgotten, tooThat's the danger of believing booksAnd all the lies of those thieves and crooksWe sing intellectual songs of loveFrom a stolen pen to a velvet glove.-As It Was When It Was

This isn't AMAZING poetry, but when compared to:

Ya gotta look at life the way it outta be,Lookin at the stars from underneath the trees,There's a world outside and a world out there,With that tv you just don't care.-Krafty

Still, not AMAZING, but there's a definite loss in style and substance. Granted, Sumner has never been fantastic and he tends to over-rhyme. And I'm not choosing Krafty for any reason above the other tracks...(personally, I feel "Dracula's Castle" is perfect except for the one line and title)...

I'm not KNOCKING New Order. I still love the music. I just feel that the language has faltered a bit. Think of the story told in Bizarre Love Triangle. Think we're gonna get something like that again? Or Temptation?

PA, the 'afterthought' tag was a term of endearment, not a pointed disruption of your personage. Any offence was purely co-incidental. For what it's worth, I have much respect for one and all.

Would you agree to disagree with the opinion that Bernard's idiosyncratic lyrical writing has swayed from not so good to good to sublime in a circular fashion throughout each album release?

Mr. Disco from Technique touched a nerve, the same nerve was tweaked with Regret - I'd forgotten a few senses from Mole Hunt which were thoroughly sensationalised whilst Getting Things Ready. I've bore witness to WFTSC and both my senses and nerves are practically tingling into hyper space.

It may be that some of us simply become too nervous at each cusp of new release, confused and delirious with excitement.

None of us have ever listened to NO for the lyrical content- its the whole package that counts- if we wanted lyrics we'd be listening to Mozzer!

I beg to differ. I HAVE listened to them for lyrical content, and considering the lyrics were ALL i had to bitch about the new album, I think that says a lot. I AM looking at the content as a whole, and when I'm dancing to it, it's not to the words, but the feeling they carry.

The new album of New Order «Waiting for the sirens' call» will be a special one because all fans will find a special song they like a lot : from pop to rock songs. For myself «Hey Joe» is my favorite song of this new album. My best New Order song of all time is Nineteen 63 for sure and «Joe» remind me Johnny! I think, New Order did a great job for all their fans around the globe but for the next album, I would like to be surprise like when I hearded for the 1st time in my life Blue Monday, Confusion, Temptation, Bizarre Love Triangle, True faith, round & round and Crystal.

I just find the latest songs to be bland and having no catchy hook... they just seeem to go no-where, personally they lost it after Republic and they were on the verge then. From the preview of a New Album point of view, the very the first time I heard World I could not get the chorus out of my head for ages, Having listened to the 4 songs played from WFTSC, I can't recall what they sound like period as I'm typing this message some few hours after, nothing grabbed me. i'm gonna have to listen again I think...

someone probably said this before but, perhaps the music started going downhill when the titles were actually said in the song =)

*I hadn't the time to listen to the show on the original site, came back today and as I expected it wasn't there anymore, so my biggest thanks for storing it here! It's a great show, but of course they've made a huge mistake by making people hear Working Overtime as the first song... many listeners won't have cared about the rest of the show after that... they should have started straight with the title track, which is the best for the English audience, while if it was an American radio Turn would have been more appropriate... I'm a bit worried they're making too many mistakes... wrong album cover, wrong video for the single (wonderful but can't be shown on conservative TV channels), wrong samples on the radio... it would be a shame this excellent album doesn't get the success it deserves... Anyway broadcasting tracks like I Told You So is alright as people can hear there are different kinds of music on this album... I don't know if it's because it's Real Audio, but I've also the slight impression that the mix is a bit different from the promo here and there, especially on Jetstream (which is, by the way, a great single!)... Oh yes Steve's voice is great on the radio! He definitely should have his own late night show...

Finally heard the legal bits (I'm beginning to regeret my moral decision for the year, should have given up sweets like everyone else. But I don't really like sweets, so that would be cheating.). Krafty is a grower. I found myself singing it on my bicycle last week. It would have even bigger potential if the lyrics were a bit better, I'm not talking Shakspeare here, just not that annoying. Even the stars and tree bit could pass, but the lakes and trees and the human race is a no-no. Apart from the lyrics it's wonderfully catchy. A definite :thumb: I Told You So is OK. It sounded a bit mishmash at the first listen, but give it a few listens and you'll like it. Not up with the classics though; not experimental enough. Not reagge/ carribean enough. Still, :thumb: Working Overtime i loved at the first listen-I was working overtime at that very moment ! Much better than their last attempt at the Stooges. For everyone still at work at six,:thumb: Jetstream is the only song that I didn't like. I haven't got a clue why it would be a single, apart from the girl from Scissor Sisters (it is a girl, right ?). I enjoyed their song at the Brits (were transmitted here on Saturday), especially the singing watermellons (you just can't beat singing fruit), otherwise I'm not familiar with them. Still, the song has no single potential whatsoever, it's by far the weakest of the four, not catchy, not a quality song. So, 3 :thumb: out of 4, so if those are some of the weaker songs of the album, it could be a fine one.

*Uhm, I think there might be small adjustments here and there (and actually some of us have had the impressions they happened on the definitely final versions broadcasted) but the 99% of the work is done. I wouldn't really call this production inconsistent, all the producers, including New Order themselves, have made an excellent work, especially on the more complex stuff like I Told You So.

FYI the track names on the earlier version are incorrect.

*Of course, some of the tracks in the promo have the old working titles. Obviously the final titles were chosen after the promo started circulating...

A short story ilustrating the cheerful qualities of Krafty:

Yesterday on my way to work I got a puncture on my bicycle's rear tyre . Moreso, as I rode on an empty tyre, the inner tube slipped out and got entangled in the rear brake, so I pushed the bike for the last couple of hundreds of meters. I couldn't repair it at work, so I started to ride home on an empty tire. Around that time it began to snow heavily. The inner tube slipped out three more times, the last time it got so entangled in the chain and the shifting mechanism thai I ended up ripping it of and finishing my ride on the outer tyre alone. Halfway between the slippings I also fell off the bike in a pile of fresh and not so fresh snow. I came home near half past seven-I usually arrive around six. Why am I telling you this ? Because all the way through my journey I kept singing Krafty, and happy I felt. My favourite bit was about the stars and the trees.

I also must suffer - I'm a mac user and I can't bear the thought of any windows/real player software taking up space on my hard drive.

I did get to her Krafty at work, it was ok, it didn't blow me away. It reminded me of twisted tenderness.

Main problem I see if that all I heard for months was that it was more of a return to the Technique period rather than Get Ready(the Sequel) but when I heard Krafty, it didn't exactly remind me of Love Less or Mr. Disco or any of those perfect 9 tracks. If you're looking for Technique2 I think you'll be disappointed. But I love the guys for what the represent (my College years) and I always said in 1995 that I would still be listening to New Order when I'm in the nursing home and I still stand by that.:music:

Had the privilege of hearing four tracks from the album, but I really dont want to hear any more. Initial thoughts are that this could be a true return to form.

"I told you so" (from the NME sampler)

This is not such a strange departure for New Order. “Turn the Heater on” was in a similar vein and there is definitely some dna of “touched by the hand of God” in there. It’s lazy to review tracks by comparison to others, but difficult not to if you have listened to New Order for most of your life. “Ace of Base” my arse! I must confess I was nervous about playing this song for the first time given the views of others who had reviewed this, but that intro is just classic electronic New Order!

“Krafty”

Heard the debut play on radio 1 weeks ago – this is actually quite a good song, a real grower consistent with much of New Order’s quality stuff. You soon forget the lyrics…..New Order still have an amazing capacity to create songs that just seem to get under your skin and stay there…….for years. The dynamic of the song kinda reminds me of “Face Up” - fairly dramatic intro which lightens up pretty abruptly. Always remember playing “Low Life” for the first time and that track was sort of dissapointing after the initial dramatics, but now one of my faves……

“WTFTSC” & “Hey Now What You doing”

Two future classics here – the former is going to be one of those timeless pieces – I think it has some similarities in “Leave me Alone” (maybe that’s just the sea references), but there is more that makes me think that – just can’t put me finger on it yet – “Hey Now…” I liked immediately. Need to listen to this one more but it alone beats most of Get Ready hands down, (excluding Crystal).

Roll on 28 March…….

I think the Waiting For the Sirens Call album is very much where Get Ready left off. The lyrics are the usual corny took 10 minutes to write stuff. Barneys vocals are a bit shot in places too. The production is very nice though and you can notice the input from various producers. Most tracks are guitar based but Id say 3 tracks were dancy. Guilt is A Useless emotion being my favourite as I dont think Barneys vocals style suit Jetstream or I Told You So as well.

The songs are a bit on the long side and I would have liked a return to Technique style instrumentation (as this is by far their best album). Also the songs follow similar themes of lost loves and lost friends a bit much.

However, after critising it I still think its a good album and look forward to seeing the band at V2005!
