Anyone know where Hooky was while the rest of the band recorded Republic? Sounds to me like he left them to it after Regret!

Republic was my least favourite New Order album, mainly because Hooky's bass lines were missing from most of the tracks. The songs were good, but it sounded more like Electronic than New Order.

well hooky was there just playing bass the way its meant to be played, not that that`s necessarily a good thing of course...

Special has some good basslines too. With the addition of some Bass, Republic could have been great.

I agree actually Brian, although It would need to go further than a bit more bass - just taking the sheen off the production and making the guitars, and of course bass as you say, far more prominent, would improve the album no end.
