Is it just me or is every dipshit going name checking NO. Not that I'm complaining just the very fact it was never like this over Get Ready or to be honest back then.
Opinions please - are Warners doing a good PR job or is it part of this whole 80's revival or... is it cos the orginal fans are now shakers in their mid 30's to low 40's and setting the agenda?? Fuked if I know.
Mulv - you could draw a chart with the frequency of New Order's popularity. It was inevitable that they would eventually proved right and thus the line goes from bottom to top across twenty five years.
Their current popularity has a knock-on effect where pop tunes are more common than dark poems.

Nice one - it was inevitable that we'd be proved right as well. But it's definitely true that the inane 80s revival thing has plenty to do with it. Cue some twat from Franz Ferdinand saying his fave tune ever is "5-8-9".

I think its a lot to do with these recent trendy media loved bands that have taken their "inspiration" from New Order, ie Franz, Killers, Bravery etc..
Now the media are sitting up and taking notice and realising they can jump on the "isnt New Order cool" bandwagon... 
The Observer I think it was ran a headline the other week saying "New Order are cool again" 
so when exactly did they STOP becoming cool, its just the music press are too busy shoving their head up other flybynight bands arses to acknowledge NO.
The problem of these bands is they're nowhere near the sound or the quality of New Order (The Killers are the best example, they might have taken their name from the video of Crystal, but they don't seem to have the talent to write anything remotely recalling that song and are infinitely more mediocre)... they're just fans... The Wake, now that was a band actually influenced by New Order... even Dubstar received a true influence, and their sound was also a bit different (it's just not nice if you just replicate the sound of your favourite band without adding anything)... I like what I heard from Bloc Party because they're fans but don't even try to have their sound influenced by New Order, they just do their own thing with a general new wave sound...

The unwshed will only recoginse New Order's true talent in 50 years time, when it will be compulsorary for music students to study the compsitions of Sumner, Hook, Morris, and Gilbert.
I know what you mean. I'm dead happy the band's getting serious and deserved recognition these days, but even for them it must be getting a bit sickly sycophantic now. I was not surprised when the NME started gushing about them because they did it with The Cure and Morrissey in the past, it had to be NO's turn at some point. I think the 80s revival is a small part of it, it's fashionable.
If you notice in the NME's "I love New Order" section this week where they interview a few twats as to what they think of the band; just about everyone lists Blue Monday as their favourite track! I mean, get a bit of originality please! New Order have done close to ten albums, whereas BM is on every electro compilation under the sun and hugely overexposed; it's not exactly an interesting choice. About the only bloke who's favourite song I believed was David Walliams from Little Britain who said he knew all the lyrics to Run and loved Technique Even Noel from Oasis choosing Everything's Gone Green was a relief compared with all the other twats choosing BM. There is a big amount of leaping on the I-like-New Order bandwagon at the moment, proclaiming they're cool so as to enhance your band's credibility. Incidentally I'm really sick of The Killers and that twat who fronts them, he's not far off giving New Order a full on blowjob and you can just tell he loves himself.
If this outpouring of interest gets New Order back in demand so they release more albums then I'm all for these celeb hangers-on. So long as they don't influence the music or attitudes the band have always had, in that case they should wind it down rather than releasing a "compromised" shit LP.

This media/bands adoration of New Order must be a unique UK thing. Here I've heard no mention of the new album in any media; press or radio yet. Heck they don't even seem to play BM or BLT on the radio anymore. We haven't got those NME, Q, and Mojo mags featuring the Order yet either. (Time delay due to shipping.) So, there is no general New Order buzz thing going on here yet. We'll see what its like in a couple of weeks.

In fairness, the NME has always adored NO and JD - Morley basically made it happen with his coverage anyway.
Said publication has gone down the proverbial shitter over the last 10 years, but (the occasional bad live review aside) they've never given up on the Order.
