Indeed, I had a wardrobe full of Gio Goi stuff too! Also had the Bundeswehr stuff and a big hooded coat back in the 80's! Was even sad enough to buy a bright yellow jumper too, after the Tube appearance. But then, I was only 17. Don't think I ever wore it mind, as it looked sh*te.

Haha I'd forgotten that yellow jumper until yesterday when I was watching the Tube footage. I can safely say I never felt any compulsion to kit myself out like any of them ! Never had a Barney haircut either !

(Actually that's a lie, as anyone who knows me will tell you that I was dressing like a certain Curtis chap up until about 1986, trenchcoat included) :)

Remember Heaton Park with Electronic? Johnny looking cool as fuck in his black shades, white jeans, white top (stone island i think) and white jumper wrapped round his waist.

Prompted me to go thru a stage (well it lasted one wkd actually!) wearing all white. Unfortunatly it wasnt quite as gleaming once i'd left the club!!

I don't imagine Barney ever did it, but did anyone ever do the bandana thing? Or the smiley shirts?

It's all coming out now !! :) Never been seen in a bandana, never understood acid house and all that smiley shit, never dropped acid, or an e, never wanted to. Did manage a very passable Nicky Wire impression in 1991 though, when I should have (and did, in retrospect) know better !

I spent my entire teenage years tracking down items from Barney's wardrobe - but could never quite get it right - I immediately wanted a woolly yellow jumper after the Tube but ended up gettin an orange one instead. There was also his beige anorak with the inside checks around Brotherhood era which I got - without the checks

Even sadder is the fact that I was very into shorts and deck shoes after Confusion

I'm pleased to say I did own a beautiful Bundeswehr vest.

Now, as for Barney's hair, don't even get me started on that...

I had a couple of hooded tops. Then went to Uni in 86 and met a mad New Order bird there from Oop North and on our first night down the Uni Disco we made a point of talking to another lad in a big cream hooded top cos we assumed he was an Order boy .. but .. he claimed to be a mad Housemartins fan instead! Remember, Norman/Quentin Cook wore the exact same coat in the Happy Hour video!

But his didn't have checks - you should have known that was the crucial difference between NO fans and C86 kids !

There was also a similar dilemma in whether to talk to anyone with a Barney-style US army cut - there was always the danger that they were resting Spear of Destiny/King Kurt fans

Oh yeah, the barney haircut has always been one of my favourites. Only recently i discovered that a shaved head has its advantages too,and that was the follow up of my trying-to look-and -act-like-shaun ryder period!

Coincidence or not?!?! As I posted yesterday in another thread last week I bought a fleece sweater very similar to the one Barney wore on later...And I wear it almost every day (I am not asahmed to admit). But never outside of the house... The fact that it reminded me of said fleece influenced my buy decision :)

Has anybody come across any stick-on prosthetic triple chins for that extra-authentic "Piggy Boy" look of the Barnster then?

Ah yes, the reversible hooded jackets - a class item. I had a yellow and green stripey one (not as bad as it sounds) and a cream/black one. And who can forget the roll neck zip-up tops - when are they going to make a comeback?

And who wore their denim shirt with a New Order t-shirt underneath a la Toothache video?

Dungarees also had to be worn with the straps down as I recall.

And how many people used to say to the barber 'Can I have a number one round the sides and back but leave the top mate'
