How much are they worth?

I think that Barney gets more from the publishing rights than the other 3 - rights are often split into lyrics & music, so he should get most of the lyric money to himself.  How they split the music rights I wouldent have a clue - but i'd like to think its a 4 x 25% split

When oyu think about it tho - Barney should be made PAY the others for some of his lyrics - they can be so bad they put people off buying the records[:#]

Theyve been in the buisness 30 years nearly. Common sense tells you they dont need to worry about finances nowdays,even if they did get 'screwed' by Factory-theyve had 3 albums out on a major,plus a couple of compilations that probably sold well-and the side projects were all major label releases. It has,as rightly been pointed out none of our buisness or concern-do NewOrder have the right to know how much we earn? No. I think they have earned the right to be worth a few quid and not be asked about it.

I think they can figure out how much ROCKET and I earn (being redundant an' all... [] )

I'd have thought every New Order release from Movement to Get Ready, as far as the band was concerned, was split 4 ways between them.

The first release Gillian won't make any monies out of will be WFTSC.

Yeah but Barney had Electronic (on a major label) and that should have netted him some additional.  Hooky prolly made a few pounds from Monaco.  I doubt that Gillian would get her "share" for Get Ready or WFTSC seeing as how she's not credited.

Not sure I care how much each is worth but I do think that these should be factored in for exercise purposes.

Was Gillian not credited on Get Ready? I thought it just said 'New Order' which is neither here nor there.

Barney indeed had Electronic which, for argument's sake, he split 50-50 with J.Marr.

Electronic produced 3 albums, New Order produced 7 studio albums and various collections in Gillian's time with  the band. Electronic did less than 10 gigs worldwide, New Order did 100's. I think it's fair to share that Gillian's 25% share of New Order is bigger - much bigger! - than Barney's 50% of any Electronic product. And New Order still sell to this day, Electronic do not.

Yeah, it makes you wonder - Barney wearing the same trainers for years etc. I remember Hookey had to be quick in a interview 'cos he had to take a camera back to Argos before it closed - doesn't sound like someone worth £5m! Gies a brek!

Agree that there is not a huge difference between them (unless they invested differently).  My point was just that no one had mentioned Electronic which was on a major label and therefore both Barney and Marr probably got some sort of advance or guarantee up front.

I also don't think that Electronic's contribution is nearly as big as NO's but its certainly not peanuts either.

Anyway...thats all I have to say about other people's money

Which would have to be recouped first before they saw any royalties. So, I doubt that they're swimming in cash, but I'm sure the publishing royalties aren't entirely negligible.

The sheer level of interest in this post confounds those who said 'we don't care' or those who were playing the role of NO saints etc. Fans do want to know this and it's safe to assume that they're all worth over a million with the upper range extending to £5-6 million and with Barney as the wealthiest member.

Someone needs some maths lessons.

I rad in sound on sound magazine about ten years ago that the bloke who wrote the theme for match of the day earns a 6 figure sum from the PRS royalties, if you think about how much advert, TV and movie work NO have done over the years, I should think they have got a few million from  PRS alone.

Nah, it's my belief that Barney gets a slightly bigger cut than the rest; and the first Electronic album was huge.

Er, it might be your belief, but it's a FACT that New Order divvied up four ways.

Now, the first Electronic album might've been huge, but how many New Order albums did it actually out sell? And New Order, with Gillian had SEVEN studio albums, and a fair few compilations. Electronic had just three albums. The initial Electronic album would've had to rival Dark Side of the Moon for Barney to earn more off Electronic than Gillian earned off her quarter of New Order.

Publishing rights are split into music and lyrics; the former is equally shared but as the main lyricist Barney gets most of the latter.

Pernod wasn't cheap, nor Holsten Pils, reckon Barney down to his last 2 mil
