the lyrics aren't just stuff barney made up. i can't understand all of it, but barney clearly sings japanese phrases, like "kimi wo nasanai" (i won't let you go - actually i'm not so sure of the exact verb), "ai no sekai" (the world of love), "kimi dake zya nai" (you're not the only one).

actually, Bernard himself said if he could do this for Japanese fan, because he liked the audience when he visited in 2001.( this is what Warner Japan saiid on thier HP.)

I'm not  going to translate this song here because Goto Masafumi (Asian Kung-Fu Generation) did a very good job on this song.   I love his lyrics as much as Bernard 's.

He wasn't very good on sinsing in Japanese though....

Don't believe that record company said. hahaha! I hate Asian Kungfu Generation so much. Most of Japanese NO Fan don't like them, I believe. Sorry!

oh you're right, it must be "hanasanai". and i thought his singing was ok. japanese seems like one of the easier languages to pronounce, and it sounded like he was just trying to get the vowels straight.

Thank fuck I haven't ordered the Japanese edition of the album! MUCH worse than the expected... I had an opend mind about this idea, but after hearing it... No way, it's ridiculous... I don't think he shouldn't have made it, it's actually fun, but to my ears it just sounds as weird as Hooky singing the Teletubbies theme... I hope the Japanese fans enjoy it though...

No, Sunkist.  Barney recorded a version of Bloo Mundi for a TV commercial.  He said he got offered £100,000 to do it, but got an attack of INTEGRITY in the studio.  Someone wrote £100,000 in big letters on a massive piece of card and held it up so he could see it as he sang.

yep, i know about the sunkist commercial. i was simply riffing on the fact that this was a japanese version of a new order song... suntory being a japanese whiskey that was featured in the movie lost in translation.

I once enquired of some natives of that land as to the meaning of a Finnish word (which sounds like) "Perkola", based on the fact that it was the only word Tommi Makkinen ever said on a stage, usually after one of his patent using-a-tree-to-get-round-a-corner manouvres hadn't quite paid off.

I was informed that it was a "variable intensity swear word", with the level of rudeness being varied by rolling the rrrr longer and general tone of voice.

So "perkola" is "golly gosh" and "PERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRkooooooOoOLLAAAAAHHHHHH!!" is unprintable on a respectable forum like this ( ahem).

Now I dunno if this is true ( hardly worth them lying about unless it's true meaning is deeply embarrassing or something), but if it is, it leads to two thoughts.

Firstly, the Finns may swear even better than the Irish and Scots, having developed a whole new cursing technology. And secondly...can you even begin to imagine what a Finnish Barney would have sounded like, circa 1986, shitfaced and rambling????????? the mind boggles.

Your on a right track there   It's actually "PERKELE" and your right about the way how you variate the tensity of the swear by adding more "r". It don't mean absolutely anything, but it's still propably the most intense word in our language   Things are pretty messed up and serious if you here something like "PERRRRKELEEEE, VITTU SAATANA!" around you (I'm quite sure you don't want to hear about the last two. First being very barneyish-kind of genital word and the other one.. well you might guess it). Or then it may be a pure joy someone had and the spontaniously let it out after founding a treasure like Run2 7" from your local record shop while having a vacation..

But now I have to stop swearing or i'll get banned This got me thinking about things and I'll be pretty satisfied if Barney stops after Japanese version. He'll probably have problems remembering the times to make his crouch grunching rituals soon. Thank you Bernard from the Japanese version though. At least it gives me a good excuse to buy the Japanese version of WFTSC.
