To be truthful it's a bit fuckin embarrassing to have reached 1000 - espescially seeing as hardly any of my posts are about New Order
I wish I posted earlier - but I didn't have the balls!!
I'd just like to say thanks to everyone for keeping me so amused..even the one's I critisise on a fairly regular basis..you know who ye's are
I'll mention no names - because I hate being called an "ass-kissing wanker" 
I'm glad I haven't offende anyone too much, it's just my dry sense of humour you see;)
Anyway since I never get much chance to join in with the New Order threads....I have decided to compile a 5000 word essay on WHY I LOVE NEW ORDER
only joking.....
I first came across New Order in 1984 - I was only 9 and my Uncle John came home with a 12" single, I asked him what it was because I was intrigued by the cover - turned out to be Thieves Like Us - never thought much of it at the time. Then a couple of years later, I was sat at my Grans when John kept playing this 1 video over and over, it was New Order on The Whistle Test (As it is & Sunrise) it drove my Granny up the wall, and just as Barney started singing AIIWIW - my Granny said "I wish he'd bang his head against a wall, then maybe I'll get some peace" which everyone thought was funny except for John - who threw his dinner away and went in a huff, I couldn't understand why he was so upset..but now I understand - because New Order touch you fucking deeply - once you get to know all about them. I think the highest compliment I can pay them - is I love New Order as much as I love Glasgow Celtic, and outside my family and friends, they are the most important things in my life - despite all the let-downs that go with the band (Set-Lists) you can't help but fucking love them
The song that got me "into" New Order was Temptation, and to this day it remains my favourite song of All-Time. I used to go up my Grans and annoy John and his missus Lorraine all the time (playing pool) and he always had a New Order album on - usually Low-Life or Substance - The Perfect Kiss was another song that got me hooked. Anyway, I always used to pester him to tape the albums, and when I turned 13 I got a job as a paperboy - so I could buy my own records, the first album I ever bought was PCL and the thing that impressed me the most - was being able to pick out the album - without ever seeing the cover before - so the Thieves cover must have stuck in my head - it sounds funny but it's absolutely true...Honest.
After playing PCL to death, I listened to the rest of the albums for the next year, then in 88 we saw Fine Time on TOTP - fucking brilliant, then they announced the tour - and John and Lorraine took me to the NEC for my first ever concert - fookin brilliant - I think my favourite song of that time was 1963 and John said they rarely played it - so when they did play it - made my fucking day. I still have a photo with the Concert T-Shirt..well fucking mad - I look about 8 Then when Technique came out - the neighbours must have been cursing me to fuck!! All summer it was balsted out my bedroom window - you could here it from about 3 streets away - loved it to death and it still remains my favourite album - Right time - Right place...cos that actually was a decent summer Then after that John sent away for New Order video's which contained loads of interviews (apb,snub,rapido..) And when you see their Dry and carefree attitude you love them even more - I could go on and on and on...but I will be here all fucking night, I don't realise how much I go on about them - till the next day when people say "That's the last fucking time I'm coming back to yours" because all I do is try to get people to love them as much as me - I have only converted 2 of my best mates - but even they go fuckin mental when I start rabbiting on...so I'll leave it there!!
Just basically trying to say I'm not an imposter - love them as much as everyone on here;)

Mind you - I'll have to have a clear head and conscience before I can read your little speech above, seeing as there's been a bit of the touch of the "Domestics" back at my abode as of present, (yeah - right near bedtime as well, how fucking typical) and I'm in a pretty foul mood as a result (good - no change there then).
My good old housemate has only gone and "accidentally" broken something of real worth to me (a family heirloom) and to say the least I am a bit pissed off about it.

And thanks very much for your nice story above, describing your history of getting known with New Order.
Y'know, I fokking hate the fact that I really can NOT remember anymore how I learned of new order, and which album and/or 12" I bought first of them. Damn.
I vagely remind the fact that some friend of mine introduced me to Joy Division (brilliant!) and explained to me that they just 'changed into' the Order, which he liked much less than JD. Although I was quite impressed on the JD songs (and still are!), I immediately liked New Order even more!! But I cannot recall when I bought which kind of New Order material.
Only know that they have always remained number 1 in the music that I love, and they will probably be this forever.
This year really was my Order year. AT LAST, I saw them live.... Man, they refused to come to the continent for sooooo many years, and I really could not afford to see them in England or so, until this year.
AND THEY WERE and ARE SUPER!!!! especially when playing isolation during soundcheck in Cologne.
I LOVE NO and all my NO friends on this forum!!

ive been meaning to do a profile for weeks but only just got round to it. filling in a profile means answering questions, answering questions involves making decisions,and decisions are someting i try to avoid. anyway i spose youll draw whatever inferences you like, you old cynic. as for proposals i cant see their being many on the horizon, can you?

you did it!!! Made it to a thousand without disappearing for a few days first!! Thanks for Room 101...that provided quite a bit of entertainment for me on several days...
and the story about your uncle in 84 is very near to my own story...I told this one a while back, so some of you have to suffer through it again...I have a half-sister who is 6 years older than me (and who was always the coolest person in the world in my eyes up until I got my driver's license).
Anyways...the year was 1984...and she walked into the house with this record, that had a sleeve designed like a floppy disk. I had only recently even started playing with computers, so I was just ever so slightly intrigued by the cover alone...fuck what the record was...Then she put the record on, and well, as they say, the rest is history...while all my friends in high school were going on and on about the Cure and the Smiths (and supposedly knowing all there was about what really was alternative music back then), I'd pop New Order into the cassette player, and always, they would ask me "who's that?"
Well, I don't know what any of them are listening to now a days, and I'm not all that concerned with it. But just let me end this little story with one more little tale. When I went to my 10 year reunion back in 97, the first night we were at a night club. Now, we used to catch a lot of shit over the music we listened to, because I can't really explain the suburb I grew up in (let's just say, it probably is the redneck capital of the Dallas area), but at the reunion, I go to the DJ, get him to play "Blue Monday" and I'll be damned if the entire group doesn't head straight to the dance floor...

This should actually become a new thread, everybodys story of how they got in touch with New Order.
Mine is pretty simular as Dutch Jim's..through a friend got to hear Joy Division, must have been around 80/81.And from there we both got carried away with the greatest band ever..stereo..ehh i mean New Order.
Must say that most of the time its New Order that i listen to, but when in agressive moods(happens sometimes) i really like to put my stereo on 10 and scream and shout and airguitar(airbass act.) with some early JD stuff..
Well, as promised Mr Shug, here I am again - problem solved, heirloom repaired, so everyone's happy (except me of course....am I ever??!!). So well done for your little anecdote . That's something I've never to this day (INCREDIBLY ENOUGH!!) managed to do on this board, yunno, tell people how and why I became besotted with the Order int' first place. The story is just too long and complex , and you all know me, I'll probably go on so long about it, the whole message board may be forced to shut down and Nic and Seb abandon their control pod in outright disgust and resignation. So that's why there hasn't been one to date from moi.
But your story is a good 'un nevertheless. So pop as many of the blasted corks as you want.!!!
By the way, today was the last day of my latest job - my 3-month contract came to an end this afternoon. So I'm free. Once again. To lie in as long as I fucking well wish. And dream of a new life - and complete change of identity - in New Zealand sometime soon. ;)

Ah Shuggie, The 1000-er....
While we're on the topic of first-time JD and NO, I was a wee lad of 13 or 14 when Republic came out, I remember catching Regret on the radio. I was intrigued but not quite taken with the Manc lads (I was in my first phase of Beatlefandom) so many years passed when I got to college (Uninversity of South Carolina) in 1997. One of my buddies on the academic team there, a Greeneville lad named Charlie Long, had an enormous....music collection, and while my first roomate was a Phishhead, whenever I moved in with Charles in the second semester, I was exposed to nothing but JD, NO, Depeche Mode, and the like, as well as already favorites Oasis and the Cure. Early on, Ian Curtis's deep timber reminded me of Jim Morrison, and I can remember remarking as such to Charlie. I was interested in JD first because they seemed to make so much withina small amount of time (the cover of Substance, where it said 1977-1980, caught my fascination. How could so much be made in so little time?), and Charlie forver planted in me the notion that I resembled Ian. Slowly I began to warm to the lush sounds of the group, Permenant (the UK verision with an advert for TFAD) was my first JD purchase, and I began absorbing them all in time. Fast forward to the fall of 1998 (after which, thanks to a GPA of 1.25 1st semester and a slightly better 1.3 the next, I was no longer enrolled at USC) I ran out of JD material bar the box set, and so began my quest to get into the Order. i must confess, after the almost JD-without-Ian-ness of Movement, PCL was a shock, but as you can tell I warmed to them, and I've been in love ever since....
I had a friend in college who had PCL and I like it a lot. A girl who I met soon afetrwards also liked them too. Got into Joy Division all by my lonesome though...
