Well, as promised Mr Shug, here I am again - problem solved, heirloom repaired, so everyone's happy (except me of course....am I ever??!!). So well done for your little anecdote . That's something I've never to this day (INCREDIBLY ENOUGH!!) managed to do on this board, yunno, tell people how and why I became besotted with the Order int' first place. The story is just too long and complex , and you all know me, I'll probably go on so long about it, the whole message board may be forced to shut down and Nic and Seb abandon their control pod in outright disgust and resignation. So that's why there hasn't been one to date from moi. But your story is a good 'un nevertheless. So pop as many of the blasted corks as you want.!!!

By the way, today was the last day of my latest job - my 3-month contract came to an end this afternoon. So I'm free. Once again. To lie in as long as I fucking well wish. And dream of a new life - and complete change of identity - in New Zealand sometime soon. ;)

Ah Shuggie, The 1000-er....

While we're on the topic of first-time JD and NO, I was a wee lad of 13 or 14 when Republic came out, I remember catching Regret on the radio. I was intrigued but not quite taken with the Manc lads (I was in my first phase of Beatlefandom) so many years passed when I got to college (Uninversity of South Carolina) in 1997. One of my buddies on the academic team there, a Greeneville lad named Charlie Long, had an enormous....music collection, and while my first roomate was a Phishhead, whenever I moved in with Charles in the second semester, I was exposed to nothing but JD, NO, Depeche Mode, and the like, as well as already favorites Oasis and the Cure. Early on, Ian Curtis's deep timber reminded me of Jim Morrison, and I can remember remarking as such to Charlie. I was interested in JD first because they seemed to make so much withina small amount of time (the cover of Substance, where it said 1977-1980, caught my fascination. How could so much be made in so little time?), and Charlie forver planted in me the notion that I resembled Ian. Slowly I began to warm to the lush sounds of the group, Permenant (the UK verision with an advert for TFAD) was my first JD purchase, and I began absorbing them all in time. Fast forward to the fall of 1998 (after which, thanks to a GPA of 1.25 1st semester and a slightly better 1.3 the next, I was no longer enrolled at USC) I ran out of JD material bar the box set, and so began my quest to get into the Order. i must confess, after the almost JD-without-Ian-ness of Movement, PCL was a shock, but as you can tell I warmed to them, and I've been in love ever since....

I had a friend in college who had PCL and I like it a lot. A girl who I met soon afetrwards also liked them too. Got into Joy Division all by my lonesome though...
