Best record in YEARS

Hello all,

I am new to this forum but I thought I'd drop a line regarding the new record.

Pure pop glory.  Great guitars, Pete Hook bass lines return in full force, The Other Two are all over this record as well.  The instrumental solos in many of the songs just scream "now Bernard plays, now Pete, now Gillian, now Stephen".  Praaise the god I do not believe in for this record.

It makes an old fart like me happy to finally have a new record that made me cry the first time I heard it.  The kings of pop have regained their throne.

I can't wait for it to come out here in the US so I can buy a few copies to give away.

Sirens call is the best track by far.

one thing I'd certainly agree with there is the title track being the best by a distance. just how good is that song! genius...and should have been released instead of Krafty - Another of those strange New Orderisms - such as why is Ceremony, Procession, EGG, Temptation so incredibly brilliant and Movement so dire....

SB2 - after banging on about the title track for over a year, I never expected it to be eclipsed by no less than '3' other tracks on the album ... and I'm a hard man to please (just ask our local baker).

I've been running LL and T through my mind and even PC&L. Its easy to get knee jerky but for what it isn't worth I'm in the mindset that WFTSC is at least equal in quality to them. And if you consider their age (Hooky now 74!). Then that's quite something.

How come the only people to see any difference between me and P is P and me?

out of interest, which 3. It stands out a mile for me to be honest. I reckon give it a month or two and it'll be back at the top of your list. I'd only heard it the once before this week.

That could be the key SB2 - I listened to WFTSC about 1.3 million times in the run up to the election - then Old Brown tipped me off and I received a promo copy of the album before Thanksgiving.

So then I didn't play WFTSC instead allowing the others to catch up.

Placing the disk in, for the first time, and hearing Who's Jacob ... I almost capsized. I could not, and I still cannot, believe that they have recorded a song so reminiscent of Low-Light. This is in stark contrast to The Republican and Getting Things Ready. So that's 10-15 years!?

To answer your question:

Track 1, track 9 and track 10 are on a par with the Sirens Call, where 1,3 and 10 warrant a photo-finish.

But all in all ... outstanding. Your prediction of 'it looks promising' was exemplary.

P2, if you were 15 years younger, and you were enjoying a balmy summer drinking real lemonade and collecting twigs from the woods - would your ears receive a different signal from the Sirens?

Technique was steamed with a surrounding summer holiday, WFTSC has simply emerged un-announced while a lot of us are yet to receive the Skegness caravan guide.

Of course, like everyone else, P2, I listened to Technique about 8 million times when it came out, but very seldom since then. I think Vanishing Point is one of their masterpieces, but the rest of the album doesn't excite me very much. But of course I understand that many well-informed people feel differently on this subject.

yeah I'd agree with your choices H, though have to admit to preferring Jetstream over Guilt at the moment, but thats probably as its more immediate. I like Morning N&D as well

After some of the stuff written in the press I wasn't too hopeful, but it's exceeded expectations.

The killer coldness of the verse on 9 is very 'Technique' and reminds me of Mr. Discount ... which incidentally brought a tear to my duct upon first listen ...

yeah lots of good memories with technique which is why it remains my favourite. never quite got Lowlife in the same way most fans do. I find it a bit cold in places. it's good but doesn't strike a heart string in the same way technique did and still does. Maybe it's cos I listened to lowlife most when I was bored at uni rather than in the sunnier days and holidays that technique lends itself to - but I can't think of many occasions when I think 'I'd just like to listen to Perfect Kiss/Elegia/that one at the end whatevers it called'. Think WFTSC title track has the same sort of punch that tracks like Dream attack and run have on technique, which is why I think it's so feckin brilliant.

Well, I like both 8 and 9. I refuse to choose. Not as much as 3 and 10 of course.

The differences between us are too numerous to mention.

9 is an outstanding track. Hit single potential. Now on a par with WJ? Can't split them.

The mere fact that there is an almost semi-debate where classic albums are being compared on the same level as the new album is itself an achievement.

And to celebrate, I may just treat myself to some crisps.
