This is for whom heard both versions. Oddly enough they are same titles from the same year (1993). I do prefer PSB version much better, New order's version is weak.
(i originally wanted to ask which version is more likely to offend you but that doesnt make sense) :D
Both Very and Republic are very weak imo. It's because of that Very - crap album I stopped listening to the Pets in 1993. And I can't recall the time when I last listened to those 2 songs to be honest. But if I had to pick just one, it would definitely be Young Offender by the Orders.
I went with PSBs(*), cos I can't believe anything could be so offensive as New Order's Young 'Un.
(*) And I've never even heard the PSBs track of the same name.
New Orders, although I had to listen to both to decide, the PSB's one seems a bit dated now, whereas I don't think NO's one does.
I'm a bit biased, based on what my mail signature comes from ("Busy Running Out Of Time") though

PSB's track is, err, cheesy really. Sounded good in 1993

Though I quite like New Order's I think the Pet Shop Boys' is slightly better...

Anyway Maya it's a pity you gave up qith PSBs, they made their best two albums after Very, Bilingual (with the unbelievably excellent kickstart of Discoteca and Single) and Nightlife. It's with their latest Release that things started going VERY wrong. You say great, there's Marr guest, but then you get one of the blandest records ever made... even more disappointing than Depeche Mode's Exciter...
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this thread, ha ha :) Well of course New Order's YO has a more complicated pattern and stylistically way too better too. PSB's one is good but hardly remarkable.
I have a story from 1995. A friend of mine asked if that was the same song on both albums. ehh nice time. 
Slight edge to the PSB's here (the Jam and Spoon mix is superb), although I think Republic's Young Offender is underrated. At New Order's Shoreline Amphitheater show in 1993, there were red Young Offender shirts on offer. This led me to believe it was an upcoming single. Too bad it wasn't, I prefer it to Spooky.
NO's Young Offender is an awful track. No, let me put it bluntly - it sucks donkey ass.
I don't mind PSB's song. PSB has the same ole PSB quality to it, but with New Order, I can't believe they put out this piece of garbage. Same with Chemical - ugh. 1993 was a bad synthesizer year for New Order.

Well, the two singles after Release, "Flamboyant" and "Miracles," were ace. I heard they'll be releasing a new album soon, so hopefully it's more of the same - all synths and no guitar.
Maya -- why don't you just admit that you can't stand electronic tracks!!! YOU HATE KEYBOARDS! Say it, and let it be over once and for all.
Very is one of the Pet Shop Boys' finest albums, not only in my opinion, but in the opinion of the majority of PSB fans. Of course, I can easily understand why'd you prefer Please, Actually or Behaviour over it. Different style, but VERY Pet Shop Boys.
Hence, the title.

I used to hate Very, now what I think of it can be described as "a mild dislike". I voted [orange]No[/orange] -- I like their YO a lot, even though the Jam and Spoon mixes of PSB's Young Offender are among the best mixes ever done for PSB.

Have to disagree there. It's easily their weakest, and it hasn't aged well at all. Still pretty good, though.

But Behaviour has aged really well... love that album.
For me, their worst album is BILINGUAL, without question.
As for their best, productionwise, I guess it's Nightlife.
Behaviour, quoted as their best album by many people, is very good, but to appreciate it as much as it should be, you need to be in a certain mood... a melancholic one.
I saw PSB @ Wembley in 1999 and they played the Jam & Spoon mix and it really kicked arse. When those guys play tracks like that oe Paninaro 95 they are at their best.
Best album is nightlife, but when Bilingual came out I couldn't believe how good Discoteca and Single were and how well mixed they were.
New Order's Young Offender is way better than Pet Shop Boys', in my opinion. PSB's track sounds like the crap that's piped into a wannabe hip clothing store.
Funny that both bands released identical song titles the same year. I do like PSB (Please-Actually era), and I bought Very when it came out, but it didn't stay in my CD collection very long.
