Welcome Mari.

Please encourage your lurker friends to reveal themselves.

We need fresh input to some of our elderly threads.

In particular, we would appreciate your thoughts regarding the opening bars of the song Who's Joe.

The thread is called "Bells on Who's Joe".

I'm off to the 'browse profiles' page to send some emails to people with zero post count.

Mari, there's a very rare press cutting for sale on the thread called "Bet you all missed this one".

There's been quite a bit of interest, but you might still clinch it if you act soon and bid high.

I'm glad to learn, Big, that you're still interested in Joe's bells in spite of everything. I've ordered the Cliff's Notes for the Odyssey as well as a full translation, and at some point I do hope to be able to return to that project. I hope you will continue to participate.

I neglected to note that the Monica episode was quite on point in light of the episode in Ulysses where Leopold Bloom temporarily changes into a woman.

Apart from Maya, LE, I think many of them have been hiding, perhaps in hopes of provoking just the sort of behavior you allude to.

My Joyce career tragically ended after Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Far too many other things fill my time. Hopefully the pace of my life will change one day and I can return and complete my study of this great scribe. Or perhaps an accident or illness will confine me to my bed for a while. Renewed passion for Joyce could aid my recouperation.

This is my rather florid way of saying that I don't know what you're on about.

Oi, that's fighting talk matey :evil4: and you presume wrong. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but no I'm not a "chick". I'm 100% Scottish bloke and next time I sign up for a New Order site I should probably make a gender announcement! "Ally" is quite a common nickname in the UK for Alistair or the various other spellings of my first name but I do understand in the rest of the world it's reserved (strangely) for women only (Alison etc.) Other nicknames I'm referred to include Al, Ali (different spelling but the same, more Middle Eastern), Bastard, Twat etc. :D It should be noted the "legendary" (look away Shug) ex-Rangers footballer Ally McCoist is an international example of the shortening of my name so I feel completely comfortable in my masculinity. Who would dare call him a lady??

Ally :shades:

I told you the same thing when I "met" you Ally, I was sure you were a girl because the only place I knew the name Ally from is Ally McBeal

But now I know better ;)

Apart from Maya, LE, I think many of them have been hiding, perhaps in hopes of provoking just the sort of behavior you allude to.

I have found one young lady who has been a member for over a year with no posts. Unfortunatley, her photograph reveals her to be rather an attractive young thing, and I have fallen down with man-sickness and shyness. I can't thing of anything to write. She'll think I'm really stupid. Can't someone else speak to her?

Well, Big, there's simply an episode in Ulysses (I think it's referred to as "Night-town") when Bloom (and Stephen, I believe) visit a brothel, and during the rather hallucinatory course of the episode Bloom is described as briefly turning into a woman and engaging in sexual escapades as such. That's all. I'm not suggesting that Monica engaged in any sexual escapades. I have no information on that subject.

This sounds like a somewhat familiar literary motif. As I recall, this course of action has generally proven to be a mistake.

When I was a woman, I simply continued to oggle the same girls in my office as normal, only in lesbian fashion rather than my usually prefered "married man" manner.

Did it feel different looking at them from a lesbian perspective, Big?

HARD to say really!

Patrick, this idle chatter is all well and good, but there has been a fascinating development in the story of the click at the start of the new record. We now have evidence that rather than being the result of an error, the click is intentional.

I have posted some initial thoughts on the relevant post, but elected to wait until you, DC or Wottak were online before developing it further.

I hope you were not alarmed by the sudden use of bold lettering in this post. I feel that the subject matter warranted it.

Well, Big, you're correct of course. The possibility that the click is intentional trumps all smaller subjects. I will devote my attention to it forthwith (more legal jargon to make DC happy).

Perhaps a direct approach is not appropriate after all. I'll just hang around here and hope she shows up.

If there is any information in her profile that suggests she has particular interests, you might start a thread directed at those interests in hopes of provoking her to respond.

I have started the thread. We will need to post to it from time to time, to keep it near the top of the board.

Excuses, excuses. As I've said before, one needs to have one's priorities in proper order.;)
