AUD$300 for a signed Low Life? Tell him he's dreaming. It's not you is it Ian?

I remember when the guidelines for signed items was that autographs raised the price 15-25USD per autograph. (And no, I didn't walk to school barefoot in 2 meters of snow and the wind blowing in my face... :) )

BTW: Can't people stop hijacking threads and move (seemingly) pointless chit-chat to the off topic forum? Please.

What's the outlook like for updates to the Discography, T? Going to wait until Sirens and all it's offshoots are done and dusted?

I've got some info and scans to offer before the next update.

... And I know we're due for another round of the great BlueMonday95 vinyl debate!

Yep, I agree and I'm guilty of being drawn into it. Sorry team.

It'd be cool if this thread was left for eBay and collecting issues.

Back to the topic - I've got Factory promos of WIFM, True Faith (7" & 12") and video promo. Never thought they were particularly rare... Loads of London and Qwest promos too (and I KNOW they're not rare *lol*)

It's only the CD promo of WIM that's the cash cow.

535 canadian dollars for those stupid remixes is wrong and ridiculous!!! These people do not know how to use their money properly, do they??? What a bunch of wankers! NOBODY IN THE WORLD KNOWS ABOUT THE FACT IT'S A FACTORY PROMO AND NOBODY CARES!!!

People are starving all over the world... why not make a donation of half the amount you paid for that stupid item... wouldn't you feel better ?

Rant over.

(can't stand stupid collectors)

Some people are not buying an item for the tracks, the are buying the item for the item itself. Heck, one could download the tracks for free if it was just the tracks...

Why do it? Some people would pay millions to get an old painting from some dead guy who was good at putting oil-paint onto a canvas when they could get a replica for close to nothing.

Next time, instead of spending all the money at the bar, donate half of it to starving people. And I know for sure that you'll feel better the next morning... :)

Well maybe you are very ignorant for saying something like this. A damn record is an object without personality -- it is not UNIQUE -- even 99% of the rarest records have hundreds of copies out there that are all very identical to each other. Also, they are all made of plastic and cardboard. HOW CAN YOU COMPARE THIS TO A UNIQUE PAINTING ?

Usually, collectors will feel good about themselves when they get a rare record because it makes them feel "special". So maybe you should do some introspection, TLV...

Well that strange that all of a sudden you say that, because is the past, I was being thrown tomatoes for daring to come out public about Patrick and Huntsman'S chit-chats in the threads, while people were complaining to me in private about this, they never would say it publicly to the people involved.

Maybe things are changing after all.

I am not ignorant for saying that. In fact, I am very tolerant to other people's opinions, and I want to ensure that people respect other people's choices and do not take a piss on them. But obviously, you will never change your opinion, and neither will I (I will always be tolerant). Besides, this has been beaten to death in other threads and on the Ceremony list.

We all want to feel special, and we are all made of carbohydrates.

Send me the stuff. I have an update in the pipes. With loads of updates and scans on the older stuff already updated on my harddisk, but I haven't had time to really gather the info on the latest releases. I could need some help there...

You can never go wrong discussing vinyl releases for BM. ;)

Which reminds me, I'm fairly positive that the Greek CDR of Jetstream that appeared on ebay regularly, is in fact a bootleg, as it listed 3 new DMC remixes as well as the 7 listed on the other CDR also listed on ebay!!

Oh, and initial copies of the German edition of WFTSC seem to be bundled with the two-track 'Krafty' single featuring the edit and album versions.

Speaking of DMC mixes, there's a WFTSC megamix on this one - haven't bought it yet to fully check it out...

And there's another one here, but it seems to be just the album version of 'Krafty' (misspelt as 'Crafty' :evil4: )!

I saw that Greek Jetstream promo too Nick and thought the same thing. Greek promo? I don't understand how one could even exist when the UK one has only just surfaced.

Not to mention why there would be DMC remixes on an official Warner promo. Still, I'm sure someone paid silly money for it.

Yes, please, there's important work to be done here. We must decide which track of Brotherhood to vote off today.

There are many ways of looking at things. Some people will do things that some other will find stupid all the time. That's the reality of living with people who have different lives, different values, different cultures, etc.

I respect that.

On the other hand, there are certain things that, in my opinion, cannot be justified in any way. I chose not to accept that. I chose to fight stupidity, and not to tolerate it. There is too much stupidity in the world to tolerate, I think.

For the common people, paying a thousand bucks for a copy of a record that has nothing special is wrong and ridiculous. That's what I meant with my message. There could be so better things to do with that money than, for instance, buying a promo of 60 Miles an Hour!

I am not against the idea of collecting records. I am against the idea of paying huge amounts of money for them if they are not unique, unless you are very rich, and then again, that brings another debate.

Acting otherwise is, in my book, acting in a very adolescent way, if not childish. Many adults are like that, I'll acklowledge that. I've been like that at some point, too! But I can't say I'm proud of that.

Good luck fighting stupidity... :)

Yes, $400+ is a shitload of money for a CD. Yes, it is (apparently) a relatively very rare item. And no, I wouldn't pay nearly as much for that item. But who are we to decide what it is worth?

My point was that the monetary value of an item is as much as someone is willing to pay for it (not as much as someone is willing to sell it for). eBay happen to be, IMHO, a close to ideal implementation of the economic theory of Supply & Demand.

Look at the bid history... 6 people willing to pay over $100, 3 people over $300, and 2 people over $400. If the item showed up every month the prices wouldn't end up at $300+. What better way than eBay to establish the monetary value? Even if the people bidding are stupid... ;)

A salient point.

There are so many comments these days pouring scorn on prices paid on eBay, but why? Surely these are the true global market values. Because eBay removes the previous barriers of access to items for sale, it opens up the market to everyone. It's not much use citing old prices that buyers used to pay pre-Internet, because that was a restricted market value. Now that you can sell to the world you'll get the true international market value.

The downside is that eBay has probably had an inflationary effect on some prices for collectors in some parts of the world, but the upside is that people like myself now have access to items that were previously impossible to source in their part of the world.

What something is actually worth and what someone is willing to pay are two entirely different things in my book.

However this makes me a Doubting Thomas. Apparently.
