Confusion

Two basses in fact. Bernard on slap bass throughout, with Hooky joining in on the typical Hooky riff towards the end. Hooky started the song crunching out a couple of chords in his own unique style.
Aye yep I could have sworn I saw Barney fiddling around with a four-string for a few seconds on that intro/special feature clipfest on 516. Is that him wailing the heavy metal-style 'tar on the original non-Substance version as well?

I believe the hair-metal solo was none other than Hooky! Love this period, cuz of the switching-up of the instruments. Lesser known include Gillian on tom-toms and Steve on synths for their ill-fated B-side to State of the Nation, "State of the Pernod"
I always wondered what Bernard says at the end of Confusion (87 version) when they crack up laughing at the end. I swear he mentions something about The Housemartins but I'm probably totally wrong. Any Ideas? Hardly a hot topic, I know!

Off the top of me head - i think that there were a few people doing the 'shouts' & one didn't finish at the right time. Think he said something like 'that time was Martin'. Haven't heard this version for years, so I could be a bit off.
I remember a live version of "Confusion" being on this website for us to download in wma format (about 8 months ago), anybody know what happened to it? It sounded absoutly fantastic and is the only live version i've heard of it.

I've always heard "fuckin' hell barney" in the fadeout followed by laughter.
I always thought it was "Fuckin' hell martin" and then everyone taking the piss because he did an extra "why can't you see" after everyone else finished
Yup, think it's "Fucking housemartins" - whether he was referring to the band or the birds, who knows? :D
