25th Anniversary

Does anybody know if there are any plans to re-release Love will tear us apart or Atmosphere to commemorate Ian Curtis' death? It's got to happen, can't let it go un-noticed.

as far as i know, it's not gone unnoticed. New Order has commented on the passing at every gig this tour, including Jimmy Kimmel. It's too late for them to capitalize on the death now and would be in bad taste as far as i'm concerned.

It's not about New Order capitalising out of it...I know they have been paying homage to Ian for years at every opportunity(and quite rightly so), but i think that re-releasing a Joy Division single is a fitting tribute to a genius.

i hear ya. i'd love to see it get released but i'd prefer for them to start Remastering the old albums, starting with Unknown Pleasures and running through Brotherhood or Technique (though Technique still sounds great).

actually, i'd love to see She's Lost Control rereleased since both Atmosphere and LWTUA were reissued in 88.

...including Power, Corrution and Lies?...Your Silent Face is well worth hearing again(can't find it on CD anywhere!)! Just think at this stage Atmosphere should be the one to mark the 25th anniversary...just so fitting. I admit their best stuff was on Unknown Pleasures, but Atmosphere is a classic!

Fair enough...bad idea! But in reality I really don't see the problem with some means of publically commemorating the death of such a songwriter and performer...i am not advocating in any way that we should sell mugs and t-shirts, I just feel that such genius needs celebrating.

Every year since 1981 I have had a quiet moment of Joy Dvision reminiscence on the anniversary of Ian's death(I was 12 when he died).

Having grown up in Manchester and been there during the rise of Joy Division and New Order and the Manchester music scene as a whole I feel that Ian's death needs marking...surely if any JD tracks were re-released the money could go to the cause of choice of the members of New Order or his wife...there is no requirement for them to profit out of this, nor was I advocating that.

All I am suggesting is that a fitting tribute is given to a musician that has influenced so many modern bands...

Atmosphere would be a more suitable track to release than LWTUA in my humble opinion.

All the re-releases, its getting sickening. How about making a Ian Curtis tribute song.

There is a tribute song to Ian but it's written by some shitty pop punk band - I think it's Thursday. I haven't heard it but I'm going to presume it sucks.

No one knows what Ian Curtis was thinking when he decided to do the deed.

I haven't found any mention of Genesis P. Orridge's recollection of that night(from Wrecker's of Civilisation.) He said Ian called him and told him what was about to happen. Genesis said he called a number of people and they pretty much said that Ian was depressed and he had already tried to commit suicide a number of times.

Genesis states that Ian expressed interest in leaving JD w/Genesis and forming a new band. Ian knew that if they toured America the circle would become round and he could never get off the rock 'n' roll roller coaster that JD would have most surely become.

Deborah Curtis's book states that Ian told Deborah to show up at a specific time in the morning. Unlike 24 Hour People's version I don't believe Ian killed himself in the evening while he watched Stroszek. Ian had asked Deborah to show up at a specific time and put on Iggy Pop's The Idiot and did the deed.

He did it in the early morning, not long before dawn or thereabouts.

Some, what am I saying, a JD DVD would be a nice commemoration.
