Whenever I feel down about poor Ian, I always remind myself, that in the middle of one of his darkest writings he wrote.... "But if you could just see the beauty These things I could never describe. These pleasures and wayward distractions this is my wonderful prize"

I'll be watching NOstory and 24hpp as well.

Oh, the irony....:

May 18 - best day for resolutions An expert who was challenged to find the ideal day for positive thinking has said May 18 is the optimum date for life-changing resolutions.

Dr Cliff Arnall, a Cardiff University psychologist, came up with a formula to identify the date on which a resolution is most likely to be successful.

Far from being on New Year's Eve after more than a week of festive overindulgence, it turns out to be 138 days later when spring has sprung.

Dr Arnall devised the formula M x O + Bh (H+R) x S to discover that New Year resolutions stand a better chance of success if they are made on May 18.

Under the formula M stands for motivation and O for opportunity while Bh is bank holiday proximity.

The H in the second half equals increasing hours of daylight, while R equals reflection time and S, simply success.

Dr Arnall, a specialist in happiness, motivation and confidence, was the brains behind the January Blues formula for the most depressing day of the year.

His latest formula results from a challenge by the Get On campaign, run by the Department for Education and Skills under the Government Skills for Life strategy.

The campaign has a target of helping more than two million learners improve their reading, writing and maths skills by 2010.

Dr Arnall said: "If you've got your heart set on a promotion at work or are fed up struggling to work out change in the supermarket, May 18th is the day to take the first step."

In Memory of a true visionary and pioneer. Thank you for the music and the legacy you left. Those recording "artists" today that step up to the mike and give only a small percentage of themselves into their sets should be embarrassed and ashamed.

I hope you found peace on the other side. I'd like to meet you someday there and thank you in person.

Love will tear us apart, indeed. :(

Guess the dreams always end. They don't rise up just descend, But I don't care anymore, I've lost the will to want more, I'm not afraid, not at all, I watch them all as they fall, But I remember when we were young

What a wonderful songwriter he was

Thanks for everything Ian... RIP :bow2:

Rest in peace, Ian.

The world is a sadder, smaller place for your absence but your legacy lives on forever. I try and raise a glass to his memory at some point on the 18th May every year and the day features a totally JD soundtrack.

So far today it's been the complete Peel sessions, Preston and Le Baines Douche and later it will be Substance, Closer and Still to finish.

Thanks to everyone who's posted here and keep the faith.

No, Natalie was only little when her dad left this realm. There's an interview with her in the April issue of Mojo where she says she was brought up to know who her dad was and the special gift he had and she's very proud of him. She works as a photographer in Manchester now and is in regular contact with Bernard, Hooky and Steve.

the reason I decided to start singing, instead of just playing guitar. thank you Ian Curtis, I'll be playing Closer for awhile now, maybe even sing or jam on the guitar for a bit to some Joy Division. Rest in peace IC.

Thank you to whoever it was quoted Atmosphere live, on a sad day, it was nice to be reminded that barney didn't invent talking bollox mid song. "People like you, find it easy, always in tune....." LOL@Ian

Oddly I feel an urge to bring the house down with a lethal New Order track, maybe Prime586. After all, Ian was the one saying shut up and listen to Kraftwerk.

I'd be interested to know what you think of it. I've never managed to watch more than about a third of it

Rest your tormented soul in peace, Ian.

I'll be watching "Stroszek" and listening to "The Idiot" tonight. Uh... better not.

Watching "Here Are The Young Man" will do the job with low risks. Certainly a candle will light my home tonight.

I started listening to Joy Division properly a year ago and ive been hooked to their music ever since. I bought Unknown Pleasures and Closer initially then ended up gettin still, substance and warsaw LP. Their music was truly inspirational, it got me into playing guitar properly. Ian Curtis was a legend, shame he couldnt overcome his problems too see how influential he is. Man im so hooked on listening to Joy Division on my ipod i gotta stop, it distracts me from revising for GCSEs

Anyhows, RIP Ian Curtis.

Also out of the general interest, anyone on here similar age who listens to Joy Division, cos my friends hate them lol. (Im 16)

Just finished Stroszek, dare I listen to The Idiot now? It's a pretty grim film, if only BBC2 had shown It's A Wonderful Life that night, things could have turned out so differently.

how is Ian's daughter, even when she knows about her father? I hope it wasnt as painful her and help her through the tough times. My thoughts are not only for Ian but for whom he touched in his life.

today i wrote 'ian curtis: 1956-1980' in the corner of the blackboard in my classroom, where students always write random crap. one of my students asked: 'is that going to be on the final?'

Only 3 pm here now, plenty of time to play Heart And Soul in its entirety. Digital just now cranked up, can't wait for Transmission, the first JD song I ever heard.

Which is worse, the idiot kids who ask stupid questions or the ones who remind the teacher that they forgot to assign homework for the weekend :D

Just got back from BBC 6 Music's Transmission event in Manchester. They played all known video recordings of Joy Division on the big open air screen in the centre of town.

The sound was crap as A) the source material was very old and mostly of old tape bootleg standard and B) the surrounding buildings bounced the sound around.

However, close to a thousand people turned up! The crowd was a real mixture too - from indie kid teenagers to grey-haired original fans.

RIP Ian - you haven't been forgotten.

Listened to Substance 1977-1980, Heart and Soul (the Boxset) from end to end, followed by 'Still'

I'm not sure that I should listen to Movement now, but I think it would be right. Perhaps I'll start with IALP and Ceremony...
