25 years ago, Ian Curtis died

It was somewhere in 1988, I already was a Smiths and Depeche Mode fan, so I knew there could be good music. I liked True Faith but I thought Touched was a bit too stupid and I hadn't the time to investigate until then. I knew New Order had been Joy Division and one day I'd have tried them as well. I was juust busy discovering The Sugarcubes... But EVERYTHING changed that night I couldn't sleep and turned on my earphones radio on a small local indie station which is sadly no more. I knew there was good music around, I knew New Order were alright, but nothing had prepared me for the immense emotional impact of that song. Who are these? Who are these?! The fookin DJ must say it! Please don't put the commercials now... aaah, yes, the song ends and the DJ is gonna speak... "And these were Joy Division, Twenty Four Hours, live from Still". Fookin hell, so these are Joy Division! The day after I ran into my record shop and bought Still and Joy Division became immediately my favourite band. Unknown Pleasures and Closer were so powerful it took me more than one year to accept New Order's evolution and become an even bigger fan of them. Thank you Ian, I think you could have split the vocals with Bernard in the 80s evolving Joy Division... you could have left him songs like Perfect Kiss or BLT, while your voice would have been perfect for Blue Monday... Hooow - does it - feeeel? Yeah, would have sounded cool.

So this is permanence....

Listening to Closer again before moving on to some of the better bootlegs.

The whole Natalie thing. I have a friend who lost his father to a heart attack when my friend was 2 or 3 years old. The only memory he has of his father is the ambulance taking him away. Even this he is not sure of for it could be something his mind fabricated. I know she is proud of Ian and perhaps has come to peace with the suicide. But I bet there was anger, the denial of something every person should have, a father. Denial by selfish reasons. I lost my father when I was 34. I cannot fathom having grown up without him because of his decision to kill himself. I just feel sorry for her.

I was there too, just making a thread now. I couldn't hear barely anything on the Wired TV special. And I had some bitches next to me who decided to talk through most of it. They left just before Atmosphere, when some person to the left of me decided to use his mobile to ring a friend up and talked to him during the whole song. They also cut short four songs they played in a row, I forgot which ones but it included Autosuggestion. I also found my picture on the manchesteronline.co.uk site.

I only heard about it at 7ish last night, i only live in Sheffield and was working in Salford this morning so could have holiday inn`d it! Oh well, just about to set off for London and Digital/Re: Order

You sure the songs that were cut short (such as Autosuggestion) weren't from HATYM and were cut short because the cameraman ran out of film for each one?

Listening all day yesterday and today full blast on tape deck in truck to "Closer" and "Amsterdam" (bootleg)...

Something really weird happened on the 18th at place I work. I was making a delivery and walked into a waiting room and a pile of used magazines of all sorts was laying on a courter to be given away for patient reading.

First one on top as I pushed the cart along was the latest SPIN issue with the article on Ian and JD...like it was waiting for me...all on the 18th!!
