'Secret' Gig Cancelled!

As I'm sure everyone's now probably aware, for the past 2 months there's been mounting rumours about a possible outing for the Order at Bar Cuba.

Well, for the past 2-3 weeks the Bar Cuba website has been advertising a 'Secret warm-up gig!' for a band anagram'ed as "WORD NEER".

And, if you rang the venue direct, they would indeed openly tell you they had the Order lined up for this Thursday, January 10th.

However, tickets still hadn't gone on sale as the New Year turned, the band's management wouldn't confirm/deny such a gig, ditto their tour management, but last Friday, the venue themselves still said they were 99% sure of New Order appearing, with a final decision being taken this weekend.

Yesterday though they still hadn't had confirmation, but today the gig is now cancelled.

Not really sure what's happened here? No one in the New Order camp seems to be any the wiser, although it IS Hooky's club so why Bar Cuba have been allowed to think they genuinely had the band on this week is beyond me. Even bizarrer if you consider that the original rumour, nigh on 2 months back, came via someone v.close to Hooky himself. Six of one, half a dozen of the other it seems. Losers all round, especially the fans. Still, one thing's for sure, it's certainly helped raise the profile of Bar Cuba. Which was perhaps the sole purpose of this little exercise all along?

On a lighter note, however, New Order are apparently doing the European Festival circuit again this summer. Wow.

And here was me thinkin that i'll keep this one quiet so i could get tickets (i bet everyone else was doing the same!). Bar Cuba even told me to call back today at 5pm yesterday. I thought it was too good to be true, one minute it's a small venue like the olympia at liverpool then bar cuba. What would have been next, busking in a manchester telephone box? My front room?

Any UK festival rumours?

But they do always (or at least nearly always) do a small warm-up show before a major tour, which surely the Australian dates must be seen as. Maybe it will be somewhere else, and soon ?

Their equipment actually flies out to Auckland this Thursday so if they're gonna do a warm-up, it's gonna be on that side of the world.

Nope, but just got a mail from Johnny Giles, who's had a text off Mr Disco / Mickey Way, and I believe they have some news of a possible(probable?) US excursion.

Though I'll leave it to them to tell all ;)

Surely they'll do a couple of UK ones? They would headline T in the Park and be the first decent headliner in years.

To be honest, I don't think anyone knows exact details of any dates.

Though I understand the outlook for April (the month, not the NOonliner) is looking rather healthy.

Not really anything much to add to Al's comments, other than news of this tour has sprung from a source very close to one Mr Peter Hook & is attributed to same.

'A few cities across the States in April' was how it was put to me. No info on which cities or when exactly at this stage but watch this space ;)

Bar Cuba's web site in the last 2 weeks?

Received more hits than Mike Tyson's lovers.

Couldn't have been a ruse could it? :skeptic:

Yep, the chap on the phone said they were going to Australia next week (which we all know about) and then America but he didn't elaborate.

You know, you lads really shouldn't keep bantering on about the Order being in America in April...It really isn't good for my heart...

but hey, I'm up for another trip to San Francisco...so much more beautiful than my home...and Shore Line is so much prettier than Starplex (uhm, excuse me, it is now the Smirnoff Music Centre or something like that).

To hell with it...I'm game for a trip anywhere they come to in the States...or maybe even in MONTREAL!!!!!!!!

Well, they still have the "problem" that their fans are aging, and most of the gig goers are teenagers, so they have to do smaller venues.

I don't think they mind after seeing the places they went to, but I sure hope I'll see them live soon!
