How would you respond to people who think U2 is better than NO? Bono>>>Barney?

the average bloke in the street could probably name 5 U2 songs, but wouldn't be able to name a single NO song apart from maybe the Blue one. So they're bound to think U2 are better coz they're bigger and more successful than NO. Not many people in the population know about NO, but every fucker knows U2.

'We'll have to agree to disagree'

would be my response. Theres no point debating with anyone who starts a conversation with 'Dude'.

The answer is simple - you don't hear New Order singing snippets of U2 songs in their concerts do you? Yet the self proclaimed 'Greatest Band in the World '(TM) do the reverse every gig they play.

Mind you, Achtung is cool!

New Order are my favourite band. I don't really care either way about U2. I bought a couple of LPs in the early 80's and I doubt I ever played them more than a couple of times.

The only thing that irks me is the politics/good causes angle. Bono shouts about it and gets as much publicity as possible. New Order just quietly get on with it - 'AIDS' benefits when no one else cared, Miners' strike benefits, when no one else cared, etc. They didn't make a fuss, just went on stage, played and made money for good causes. I'd have alot more respect for Bongo if, in Steve Morris's words, he didn't 'set himself up as some kind of god'.

Oh, that's a good response. Don't mind U2, although Bono is a annoying git sometimes.

I can find crap songs on most U2 albums, I can't say the same about New Order.. nobody can play the bass like Hooky

Bono is a media/attention whore. To me that is vulgar and profane.

I'd say "yeah,fascinating..hey, i've gotta go" or something along those lines, i know everyone has their own opinion and thats fine, personally i stopped realy listening to u2 after Achtung baby, they did some songs i like a lot but so did a lot of other groups but i always feel protective towards New Order and will defend them to the last, ...except subculture...the achilles heel in my opinion.:skeptic:

What can you say? I have this argument with mates of mine quite often when were pissed, but you are always gonna be talking at cross purposes. Because as a New Order fan you will probably interpret the meaning of quality as innovation, effortless cool, not selling out and retaining dignity, surviving shit against the odds etc. The U2 fan will probably judge quality by record sales, sell out stadium gigs, number of singalonganthems` and so on. You do of course get people who love one and like the other, such as myself, but the two bands are too different for anyone to love both equally, IMO.

So why not just pool your resources and slag some shit like Coldplay off together instead?

Find a good sounding bootleg and play Leave Me Alone. Let the music speak.

At least he actually tries to do some good and make a difference in the world. I don't get this whole mindset that says "Celebrities shouldn't have an opinion on anything". Why shouldn't they?

Because usually, they're not qualified on which they speak? I seriously doubt any of these celebrities do any fact checking or critical analysis. It would be beneficial to us all, if we listen to a smarter sort than the current "celeb with a cause". IMHO, the best way to use your celebrity is to promote a good cause and to direct peoples attention to a qualified individual in the field. I'm not really interested in their personal opinions. Furthermore, I feel sorry for those who take celebrities' opinions to heart.
