"Heyyyyyy"s and "Hooooooo"s on Crystal

I think this needs to be brought out into the open for debate......

I have to admit that, fine though this track is, the more I listen to it, the more I am now starting to absolutely fooking hate all those call-and-response like "heeeeeyyyyy"s / "hoooooooo"s that ruin all the bloody verses. They're seriously naff and cringeworthy. I mean, why was there ever a need for such over-embellishment? I think the song works perfectly fine without them - they're just superfluous - they completely ruin the song. Who else agrees that too many backing vocals on NO songs are just plain sucky?

I think the backing vocals work well in Crystal; they seem to give Barney's vocal line more depth. If you listen to the Digweed and Muir mix (club mix), the vocal line sounds really empty without the backing vocals. That remix in general is empty, with all of the instrumentation stripped away, but the vocals, without the backing vocals, sound whispy.

By 'Eck! My Neck!, I assume you hate these lines too then:

I don't mind Heyyyyy's and Hoooooo's on Crystal, it's Guilt's crappy backing vocals I can't stand.

I think Crystal is one of the best NO songs EVER. Especially when played REALLY LOUD while you are jogging or in the car.

I disagree, i think Crystal is one of the best songs New Order has ever recorded...and i wouldnt change anything.
