Dont talk to me about that twat Tong. I got talked into going to Caister Soul Weekend in 1984. His lordship was DJing playing stuff like The Whispers and The Real Thing. I can honestly say, hand on heart, hed never play New Order as long as he had a hole in his arse. I only went to Caister for the "guaranteed shagging", unfortunately I must`ve lost my guarantee!

I really can't see what all this fuss is about...it is a good dance tune today, a GREAT dance tune for it's time, a true first, without which we would not have alot of 'so called' dance tunes today. And it's still the biggest seling 12" of all time...

Blue Monday is the record that had the single biggest impact on my musical preferences - still think it's one of the best tracks ever written, but I've just heard it too many times and I don't think it can ever recover from that over-familiarity - shame really, wish I could hear it for the first time again. Outside of the NO fanbase it will be the one song that everyone else associates with NO in the years to come when they're all dead and buried.

I never quite got BM, seemed a little strange and the vocals didn't seem to sit right. Significantly intrigued to buy PC&L though. Love to know which gigs Jim. Believe i was only at two prior to your first, unless you mean you would have kicked me into gear to travel to more.

Thing that makes it worse is its permanent position as 'encore'. Don't understand why they don't swap it around and open with it, or stick it between BLT and Toothache in their (now copyrighted) 'dance' section, or indeed just end with it and stick Temptation in the encore instead?!

Totally agree. It always did make a good opener. I could never understand it in the middle of the set though, either in the 'dance section', at the last part of the main set or the opener would be good places for it. It is too predictable as the encore though.

I'm always gonna love the song itself as I will not forget buying the single and getting it home as gasping at the sleeve design and playing the record and deciding that i needed a newer, louder hi-fi to play it on. I still think it is an innovative, exciting record.

The '88 remix wasn't too clever though.

I think its great, nowhere near my favourite though. Also its the New Order song you're most likely to hear in clubs and despite its over-familiarity its still fun to dance too

i respect the tune and it was one of my first faves, but am now more than a bit tired of it.

also, doesn't really work well live as it kinda drags on a bit. sometimes rockier tunes like 60MPH or Brutal sound better live even though they are less iconic

Simple, it sucks the big one live. Also, if you read the NME the other week, there was a article "why we love new order" featuring a load of no bodys, and noel gallagher and the two funny people from little britain. They all said Blue Monday was there fave NO song, so i am quite proud to say that if the cnut from bloc party and that twat from bore patrol love it, then i fookin hate it.

no, im not joking. Im not sick of it, but i do hear it all the time in the weirderst places. Just a little overexposed. Hear it more around then blue monday.

I'm tired of BLT and have been since 1986. Personally I'd love to see a New Order gig without Blue Monday, BLT, Regret, Temptation and True Faith not because I don't like the songs (with the exception of BLT) but I'm just sick of hearing them over and over again. But you can guarantee that every one of those will get played on Friday!

Have always liked hearing it, must admit that I don't listen to it in its entirey when going over a live show every time. And as fcukin' dire as a lot of US radio is, hearing the song, either in the Top 40 format or in an 'alternative' setting, always puts a smile on my face and makes me glad to be a fan of the Order, it still puts a lot of other stuff out there to shame.

I'd swap it live for Here To Stay, or Vanishing Point, but not anything else...

i've never been tired of BLT--it's a fantastic tune all around and i equate it with fond memories of the high school dances we had every friday night (yes, i have good memories of my high school dances!). of course, it was the substance version, which is the weakest, but i'll take it any way i can get it!

I like Blue Monday. But I understand that it's pretty overplayed. What can ya do?

Blue Monday is my top favourite song ever. I think they should spice it up live. It's actually a difficult song, because it doesn't have the vocal hooks of more catchy tunes like True Faith or Perfect Kiss. As far as the main melody goes, it's quite monotone. Even the bass turns around the same two or three notes... What really makes it great are the keyboards: 1: The vocoder gregorian chant, it's too underrated, they always use only the final chord while one of my favourite things is just the arpeggio, I believe it's an F 7th minor in three steps: F F+A F+A+C+E (wow, any hidden message? ;) ) They should play much more with that chord, it's fooking great. 2 There are at least three layers of keyboards building up the final part, and yet live and in remixes we always hear only the final result of those layers, while one of the most exciting things of the song is to hear them one by one and then melting together 3 A good remix like the Hardfloor from 1995 can be used like the Perfecto was used with True Faith with excellent results... I'd also like to hear a live version of the Perfecto World...

perhaps NO should try doing a radically different with blue monday - maybe try something like the lo-fi version john simm was playing in the film 24 hour party people

Oh no, please! It was horrible! New Order is definitely a dance track, I'd rather remix it much harder, like Rotterdam hardcore style, than hearing any acoustic blasphemy...
